Hello everyone! Just a reminder to be kind to yourself. I've been hard on myself for not posting here for a while, but sometimes life can get the better of you. And I think this is a fitting thing to post since yesterday was World Mental Health Day - and in some parts of the world, it still is. Let's see how creative I can be in the coming weeks! I shall be getting back into my normal posting routine soon!

I think it's important to talk about mental health - it affects so many of us, and it can interfere with our daily lives. So let's be more open about it - personally and professionally.

Friday has been and gone, and now the weekend is here again. I think it's a good time to give an update on those goals I made on Monday.

I will keep this short: I achieved many of the goals I set (and more). One now I can check off is three posts this week!

I feel like next week I will have very similar goals.

Have you managed to achieve the goals you made for yourself?

Since my redundancy, I have thought a lot about my next career move.

Fortunately, I have had a few awesome opportunities, such as volunteering and working 10 hours a week for a contract role. What I have liked about these experiences is the flexibility they have given me. More and more, I have learnt that that has been part of my most ideal work environment. Of course, it works best for many, many other people, from parents to people with disabilities.

That is part of what I would like from my next job. I want to stick to the field I am in - marketing/design/content creation - but I am hoping I can have that flexibility I need.

And I do like the idea of working a part-time role while also having contract work - being able to continue to network and branch out certainly sounds appealing.

What about you? What is your kind of work environment? Where do you see your career going?

Monday has arrived (in New Zealand, that is), and it's time to set goals for the week. I would love it if you did this with me (and if you're somewhere in the world where it's still Sunday, you have plenty of time to have a think about them in advance). 😄

This week, I have a range of different goals, many work-wise, many for my personal life. I think, for this, I will share both since they do, at times, mix together. So, without further ado:

Goal #1: Finish a video I've been working on for Ten X Your Impact (.marketing).

Goal #2: Put out three posts a week on my own platform (here's one of them!)

Goal #3: Continue to understand myself better, specifically manage my Autistic traits - I've been reading a book called Unmasking Autism by Dr Devon Price, and I've had a lot of "Oh, that applies to me!" moments.

Goal #4: Take care of myself - if I notice myself getting overwhelmed, I'll have a quiet moment to myself, just do a bit of self-care.

Goal #5: Apply for some part-time roles.

What are some of your goals? I'd love to hear them. Feel free to comment below or shoot me a DM!

Many people think that if you fail. then that's it for you. I used to think that - that failure was an endpoint. But now I don't. I believe that failure is necessary. We learn from our failures. They help us get us with our successes. It has certainly helped me with my work and in my creative process.

I have had an... interesting, and unfortunately, I have been unable to work as much as I would've liked. And that is okay. That can happen to many people in the workforce. That is, to me, not a sign of not working hard enough or being an underachiever. Life happens, and sometimes it means you need to slow down a little, give yourself that time. Listen to my video to hear my Friday Update (and why I'm being patient with myself and my work).

My idea of success has changed over the past few years. I always perceived it as only the big things. I guess that was influenced by other people's standards of it. But I realise that success is a lot more than that. It isn't just about whether you get lots and lots of likes or achieve a huge milestone such as buying a home or publishing a book. It's the small things too.

For me, success is when I get out of bed, even when I'm experiencing a low mood; it's when I put my phone down and go out for a walk, even when I feel like I don't have the energy, when all I want to do is lay on the couch and scroll for hours and hours.

And most importantly, it's about being content with yourself. I often looked to other people to validate me; my measure of success came from them, what they thought, their likes on my posts, their idea of what success is, etc.

But I've learnt that if I'm happy with what I've accomplished, even if it's just making my bed or getting out of the house, then I count that as a success.

Here it is! Duckie Mack's next book, Song of the Sea - a romance with merpeople - releases on October 30th, and I'm happy to reveal the cover. I'm so proud of this - I have spent some of the longest time making this cover look as perfect as I could make it. It's exciting to be able to add this to my online portfolio!

Be sure to check out the book itself - here is the link on Amazon to preorder it: https://www.amazon.com/Song-Sea-Gay-Merman-Romance-ebook/dp/B0B62GYCZQ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=36SSY8KU9IGN1&keywords=song+of+the+sea+duckie+mack&qid=1662249384&sprefix=song+of+the+sea+duckie+mac%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-1

When I worked at MacroActive, I played a major role in updating and refining their branding. Having even more experience in that area, I have taken the lessons to help with developing my own brand. Listen to hear the reason why I have chosen to present my platform the way I have.

I totally agree with Elizabeth Gilbert () here. I often feel guided by my own creativity, and it gives me so much excitement - when I'm being creative, I really want to live in the moment and hold onto that passion that fuels me. Feel free to see the results of my creative over on my online portfolio (link in bio). 😄😁

This week, and for the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to devote some of my time to Anxiety New Zealand. I am so happy to help them out.

Currently, they have a special crowdfunding campaign to help support them as there has been an increased need for their services - their free 24/7 helpline. This very special campaign ends on Sunday, so if you also want to help out, please consider donating: https://lnkd.in/g_WEMUQH. Please also share the link with others you think would like to support them!

Thank you so much for listening and reading. Please feel free to follow me to stay up to date with my content.

Goals and Deadlines (and Why I Need Them):

In this video, I briefly discuss why I need goals and deadlines to work more effectively. I feel that they create structure; they give direction; they help with motivation. Do you find having goals and deadlines help with your work performance? How so? I'd love to hear from you!

The more I use my creativity, the easier it seems to flow for me. I have worried that it’s something that I might lose. But then I realise that it’s really endless, that I’m always inspired to be creative, and there is no shortage of ideas. And that’s exciting for me. I love to get creative, whether that’s for others or for myself.
