Huge congratulations to Sir Mervyn Church an absolute NZ Rodeo Cowboys champion who was recognised at the NZ Rural Games Rural Sports awards last night!
Three legends of New Zealand rural sport received the Courtesy Ford Lifetime Legacy Award at the Ford NZ Rural Sports Awards have been honoured for their lifelong dedication, achievements, and influence in their respective fields:
Sir Mervyn Tutuiri Church (Rodeo) โ The 75-year-old is a true rodeo icon, Sir Mervyn holds 30 NZRCA titles and a Guinness World Record for 15 consecutive All-Round Championships. His training, mentorship, and love for rural sports have shaped generations of competitors NZ Rodeo Cowboys
Alan Wallace (Ploughing) โ At 86, Alan has shaped competitive ploughing for over six decades. The first Kiwi to win the World Ploughing Championship, heโs a four-time national champion, judge, and mentor. His innovations continue to influence the sport today NZ Ploughing Association
Jack Davis (Sheepdog Trials & Curling) โ The 83-year-old is a stalwart of New Zealand dog trialing, Jack has been competing since age 11 and has held multiple "Top Dog" titles. A dedicated leader, judge, and mentor, he has also been a champion for New Zealand Curling.
