Takk til Harald for alt han lærte oss som aspirerte til noe innen fotojournalistikken. Og for den han var som menneske. Selv om han var en av de dyktigste så var det ingen primadonna-nykker overfor oss fotografer i de lavere divisjonene. Respekten og ydmykheten andre har beskrevet var også der i våre flyktige møter, det satte jeg alltid stor pris på.

I dag er Pressefrihetens dag!

Den minner oss om at journalister spiller en helt avgjørende rolle for å dokumentere det som skjer på bakken og imøtegå feilinformasjon.

Vi trenger journalistene. Mennesker som risikerer alt for å fortelle oss hva som virkelig skjer. Uten dem, ingen rettferdighet, ingen endring.

Journalister er ikke lovlige mål og må beskyttes ✊🏼

In 2007, photojournalist, filmmaker and humanitarian Tim Hetherington travelled to the frontlines of the war in Afghanistan and joined up with a platoon based in the Korengal Valley.

Living for long periods as the soldiers did, Hetherington built a strong bond of trust with the men of the platoon and captured every nuance of their behaviour in the austere environment.

This photography is now on display at IWM London, as part of a new exhibition, Storyteller: Photography by Tim Hetherington.

Felix Features representerte Tim Hetherington i Norge, gjennom bildebyrået Pano Pictures. Til tross for anerkjennelse og priser, inkludert å vinne World Press Photo, i hele verden, var det omtrent umulig å få solgt hans reportasjer i Norge. Ikke før han ble drept i Libya. Da våknet plutselig noen her på berget... Vel, om noen er i London, så anbefales utstillingen på IWM.

The idea of universal design is logical and obvious, of course everyone should have access to everything in society. In reality however, it is not so easy. If you are old or have a disability, a sports injury or even a baby, it is likely you will experience obstacles and exclusions.

The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS Kommunesektorens organisasjon), has been running a municipal network for universal design, funded by the The Ministry of Culture and Equality (Kultur- og likestillingsdepartementet - Norge). As part of that work KS has commissioned magazines showcasing local universal design, architecture, and innovative work around the country, to inspire and educate.

It has been an eye opener to photograph for the magazines for a few years now, working with the colleagues in Felix Media. The picture show some of our production the last few months.

Now the work is also getting attention outside of Norway, with some of the magazines translated to English also featured on the UNDP website (UN SDG Action Campaign - link below).

Ten years ago today a helicopter from Norwegian Air Ambulance (NLA) struck a wire and crashed. The crew was responding to a car accident, but instead they themselves became victims. Tragically both anesthesiologist Anders Rostrup Nakstad and pilot Bjørn Nergård lost their lives, while rescue paramedic Sondre Bjartland was seriously injured.

On that day I was shooting video at the NLA headquarters when news started to come in. I was part of a team that was sent to the scene to find out more and document what happened. As we were about to leave a member of the staff put the flag up at half staff. Only then did I realise the full extent of the accident.

I took this picture as we left for the crash site.

While the HEMS community in Norway has been spared such tragedies since then, one should not underestimate the risks the air ambulance crews run every day to provide us all with the best possible care.

PS the helicopter in the background is a previous version used by NLS, at the time mounted outside the headquarters.

After 50 years of service, rescue helicopter Sea King is being retired. Starting today, a round trip of Norway marks the end for the work horse that has saved countless lives over the years. I have been fortunate to log a few hours with crew from 330 squadron, and take some pictures. (These pictures were taken on assignment for Norwegian Air Ambulance/ Stiftelsen Norsk Luftambulanse).

Now, who do I talk to about getting a ride with the successor??! 😎

On the Ukrainian wishlist: the F-16. Experts cite long training time as one of the reasons the Ukrainians are not getting these planes now. Norway signed a contract with Draken International in November 2021, but the US government has not approved the sale. So the F-16s are still stored in Norway. This file image is from the NATO exercise Bold Avenger in ´07, before the Norwegians transitioned to the F-35.

Man kan vinne World Press Photo med et bilde som alle er enige om at er et dokumentarisk, ekte, ikke-manipulert bilde, men bli bøtelagt for å vise det samme bilde som eksempel (reklame)på eget arbeid. Dette rammer altså ikke bare de klassiske reklamebildene.
