Here is a little handheld rig for one of my favourite styles of shooting music videos. I love to get up close (not in the COVID-19 times, obviously) and personal, working on capturing the vibe from the artist(s) when they perform. With a 50mm, maybe even a 21mm, some great images can be captured with being portable and in the hand; up high, down low, in a drum kit, on the singers microphone ... for example.

Handheld has a different feel to jib-jobs, gimbals and or dolly-sliders, obviously. It also helps to have a camera that isn't too light, to avoid those heinous digi-jitters! Also, I do prefer to have a camera with a Global Shutter over a Rolling Shutter and is what I miss the most about my old URSA Mini 4K. I have moved over to the BMPCC4K and rigged her out like crazy, admittedly the same size now as the URSA Mini and just as heavy! However, I couldn't strip down the URSA to get her on the Ronin-S, where I can do that with the P4K and still get great image quality!

That is the one big reason for the up/crossgrade for my gear: Comparability and flexibility. The P4K with a Speedbooster get a slightly bigger image than my UM4K and much better noise control and better ISO performance. A newer camera for another intention. Great thing is, I can rig it and make it feel like the URSA and get that beautiful image the BMD in BRAW provides, giving me the best image quality for my clients and projects today!

Today was a little live setup from the garage in Trondheim and I was talking about setting up cameras, audio and graphics for live events.

My biggest hurdle when doing solo gigs is Audio and I cannot stress enough about getting a clean signal. So I explained a little about how I am using a simple set up for small gigs and how that is working well when there are cabled mics and working with delays when there are wireless mics and matching them up with the video feeds.

Also, I went in to a little about converting SDI signals to HDMI for longer runs or, as in my case, my cameras have only SDI and no HDMI and for me to send a feed into the ATEM Mini Pro, I need to convert.

I am using all Blackmagic production gear and for me the process is straightforward. I have heard some who have difficulties with compatibility when using different cameras, etc. A good place to start is the camera settings; make sure they all match!

I also use a switch to connect my ATEM with the Computer so I can free up the USB-C port for recording to an external drive, which is great. You can also do another backup by recording directly from the cameras, just in case.

We are super proud to present The Music Weekender's concert showcase of Elly's! A beautiful show and collaboration!

This was the last concert of ours before the entire industry shutdown of COVID-19. We were affected by the stress of the pandemic with a small, but wonderful audience who came and supported us for this wonderful and intimate concert!

This is the first showcase of 2020 and Elly really brought it home with a spectacular performance of her original music! Go Elly!
