Foundation RUW stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people. There has been great dehumanization of the people of Gaza and violence upon them has been masked by euphemisms and propoganda. The stories covered by western news outlets have been complicit in manufacturing consent through their affirmation of the state of Israel to defend itself, knowing full well the humanitarian crisis it is unleashing. It is for this reason we endorse the statement by Dutch Scholars for Palestine (DSP) along with Otherwise and numerous other organisations. We stand by its demands that Isreal is held accountable for its numerous violations of international law, human rights abuses including war crimes and genocide. We call upon other cultural and social organisations to speak out and take a stand. Neutrality is standing with the oppressor.

Can the scientist speak ?
In her essay Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak asked the question whether those on the periphery could be heard. In "We've read the science" an event organised by scientists for future (S4F) a marathon of readers ranging from Wildlife ecology to Sociology and Business read the IPCC AR6 report. Their question was that the report was widely ignored despite its importance, which playfully was tackled by reading aloud in the halls of the Atlas Building. The marathon precipitated a stark contrast between the montonal voice of the reader and the progressively apocalyptic language of the report. On the flyer the bold letters are on the role of the university and the potential of a stimulating discussion. As the days unfolded hushed discussions did come about fossil ties and business partnerships, the report itself gave into a background murmur. It would seem that scientists have become the subaltern at WUR.

On Wednesday outside of Forum the Chinese student community of WUR protested a controversial article published in the Resource magazinem. The article was titled "We need to talk about China". Speaking to one of the students they elaborated "It was immediately seen as problematic. The image was offensive to our cultural sensibilities and felt dehumanizing. The article initially addresses an important issue but is filled with instances of discriminatory language, which amplify existing stereotypes". The student went on to add how the Rector Arthur Mol in his statement criticized Resource but this was only accessible on the WUR intranet. Resource in its response doubled down in defence of the article citing a graduate school report, and maintained their neutrality in this issue.

In her novel Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand wrote about the oppression of capitalists and how that was holding back society. Nearly a century later it seems Ayn Rand's vision has come true. The WUR is the embodiment of a capitalism freed at every level from the oppression of society, environment and ethics, and the admin at Atlas have shrugged the burden of the Earth for Shell and it's oil money.

The show starts when a room becomes available. An ad is posted and all the contestants line up. They introduce themselves, sell their best and most likable qualities, and try to get the audience to somehow root for them. Desperation is the fuel and life stories are mined for entertainment. Who’s the best fit? Who’s going to win? What will the judges decide? There are no real residents ever in the house, all the housemates are merely previous winners. The house is a permanent all-star residence. And the seasons never stop, the show goes on forever.

We all are super progressive around here, but how many books about feminism have you read? We think it's time to get started! Our capita selecta course is the perfect opportunity to finally discover and understand what feminism is about and actively engage in the topic.

We are going to explore interesting things like intersectionality, gender roles, our masculinities, and consent, among others. All in a safe and cozy environment where everyone is welcome to join and share the journey of (un)learning together!
