Very soon we'll be able to announce the coverstar of our Dutch issue. A pianist with a career spanning decades, he has shared the stage with some of the greatest vocal talents of our time. His artistry isn’t confined to performance; he has also dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of musicians through teaching and mentorship. From masterclasses to international competitions, his influence has reached far beyond the concert stage. He's also a bit of a rockstar, we have the photo to prove it!

With deep roots in both solo and collaborative repertoire, his work reflects a profound respect musical storytelling and... Silence.

“I have always been fascinated, some would say obsessed, by sound and it’s relationship to silence. For me everything in music is about silence, there is only silence and the placement of sound within that silence. One often hears a quote along the lines of ‘the magic happens between the notes’, but for me that misses the point. Without the silence there can be no music, as without darkness there can be no light. By focusing on the where, when and how you produce a particular sound with silence as the dominant feature, opens you to the possibilities of wonderful peace and transparency in the music.”

Any ideas who this wonderful pianist is?

📖 Discover the story of this remarkable musician in the upcoming Dutch edition of Pianist magazine, available December 1st!

🎹 Redefining the Context of Classical Music 🎹
Gracing the cover of our upcoming Germanophone PIANIST Magazine issue, is a pianist redefining the boundaries of her art—combining classical traditions with bold, contemporary projects. From captivating performances to creative collaborations, her work sparks dialogue and inspires connection.
We asked her a few questions - any guesses on who she could be? 🧐

Are there any specific composers or pieces you feel a strong connection to at the moment?
"Definitely Ethel Smyth, as she was fighting for women’s rights and equality. After the American election, we need more of those figures."
Besides this magazine cover, are there any exciting projects or events on the horizon that you’d be willing to share?
"I’m working on a Co-Creative Project at the Konzerthaus Berlin with youngsters from different kinds of backgrounds, some of whom have very difficult stories. It’s going to be a concert about home and identity. Another project at the Konzerthaus involves connecting AI and music. In February 2025, I will play a 33rd Sonata in the style of Beethoven, but composed entirely by an AI."
📖 Discover her story, vision, and groundbreaking projects in our upcoming edition, available December 1st across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxemburg, and Liechtenstein.

“There’s no past, no future - only the here and now.”

This profound truth, shared by our upcoming cover star for PIANIST Magazine’s German issue, reflects the Zen philosophy explored in 'Walking up the Mountain Track' by Eric Schoones, our editor-in-chief.

As Schoones writes, Zen teaches that peace comes from being fully present—embracing each step, note, or breath without the burden of what was or what’s to come. For our December cover artist, this is one of the philosophies that shapes her music and life, transforming each performance into a moment of pure presence.

Stay tuned for her inspiring interview in the German issue of PIANIST Magazine, out December 1st.
