Meta Quest 3 placing a virtual screen of my Mac between my speakers. Instead of desk reflections, I have vr reflections, but they’re minor. And this one screen, you can have 5 all around you. Feels a bit like Tom Cruise in Minority Report.

One of the highlights for me at the was the Kii Seven. This monitor will be the mixing and mastering monitor of the 20s. 7500 euro will get you a cardioid dsp controlled monitor, with dante, audio interface, purify amps and great da-converters. No need for sub with this one. After that the even cheaper Daudio modular MOB blew me away. Musical reality is the keyword. The Cue 100 by Lyngdorf looked so gentle and to small for the room and then filled the room with such a big and distortion free sound. Award for best sounding room is for with their amazing Avaa C214 active absorbers.

When in search for a high quality Audio Interface / Monitor Controller with MIDI, USB connection, AES67/Ravenna, mc-inputs, line-inputs, 2 separate headphone outputs and reasonable DA-converter…..the Neumann MT48 by is highly recommended. Voor een artikel in de HVT vinylspecial, vergelijk ik 8 verschillende persingen van Michael Jackson's Thriller. Ik zoek echter nog een paar versies die ik hierin mee zou willen nemen. Heeft iemand voor mij tijdelijk 1 van de volgende versies? Ik zou deze graag even lenen of je kan anders ook even langskomen in de studio om gelijk even mee te luisteren, terwijl ik hem analyseer. Het gaat om:

- Thriller 25 (dubbel LP uit 2008)
- Thriller CBS Mastersound Halfspeed (US 1982)
- Thriller Pitman pressing (US 1982)
- Thriller (ongelooflijk goede eerste persing uit Europa 1982, ik heb er zelf een stuk of 5, die alle 5 totaal anders klinken.

Reviewing the Bowers & Wilkins PI7 S2 for an article. In short:
+ very well built
+ fancy design
+ good fit
+ lossless streaming directly from the case (as a usb transmitter)
- little heavy in the bass and missing top end for my taste
- no EQ
- noise canceling

The plug-in of the day: Sontec MES-432D9D
I never had the pleasure to work with the hardware version, but since this plug-in by and is approved by the original creator of this legendary EQ, Burgess MacNeal, I’ll take his word. It’s unlike any Sontec clone I used till so far. It’s ultra transparent and really sneaky. Turning up 1,5 dB at 3400Hz, thinking you almost hear no difference….until you turn it off. It’s a mastering delight.

The IKEA obegränsad looks nice, but that’s it. This is not your first turntable to buy or your vinyl revival record player. The platter isn’t straight, the speed is too high, wow and flutter are of the chart, cartridge weight too high and the sound is unimpressive. It’s cheap though.

This article got me convinced to see Billy Joel tonight for a one time only viewing at Pathé Utrecht of the 1990 Yankee Stadium Concert in Dolby Atmos. I always wanted to see him live, but never got the chance. This will be probably the best next thing…..or maybe better. The best seats (row 12, seats 15 and 16) are taken by me and my son, but if Tom Davis and Jake Davis did a good job, it will sound immersive at any spot in the theatre.
