TANYA TRABOULSI

1976, Austria/Lebanon

My work is an intimate exploration of memory, identity, and the complexities of belonging. Often drawing inspiration from Beirut - a city that exists as both a muse and a mirror - I navigate the tensions between beauty and devastation, chaos and tenderness, that shape this layered and elusive place.

Through photography, I intertwine personal and collective narratives, combining images from my family archive with my own. This blending of past and present allows me to reimagine the threads of memory, history, and lived experience, creating a dialogue that connects what was with what is.

EVELINE SMOLDERS

1990, Belgium

"I am here/we are here" was born from my desire to hold onto the magic and chaos of early motherhood. This collaborative project explores the conflicting needs for autonomy and connection that shape the first transformative years as a new mother.

The project reflects on how motherhood reshapes not only the physical body but also the self, expanding experiences and perceptions while placing strain on personal time and space. At its core, it is a declaration of presence, speaking to each mother’s struggle to affirm her identity amidst the constant demands of caregiving, while also marveling at the growing bond she shares with her child.

NICOLA RUSSO

1998, Italy

Namaki is a photographic investigation developed in Mexico about the Chupacabra, a mythical beast said to drink the blood of animals for sustenance. The identity of this creature holds a place in the collective imagination of Mexicans, despite the scant knowledge about it. The Chupacabra is a twilight animal, a silent predator that moves among humans without arousing suspicion, leaving only the traces of its attacks and the remains of mutilated prey. Driven purely by the instinct to feed, this creature embodies nature in all its methodical and ruthless indifference, where survival reigns, creating a raw, unsentimental balance.

Namaki, meaning “search” in Nahuatl, the language of the ancient Aztecs, represents the very essence of the project: an ongoing visual and conceptual investigation, identifying the Chupacabra as a symbol of the complex connection between humanity and the wild, of how people relate to myth and become captivated by it. This investigation invites the audience to reflect on the duality of reality, contrasting the palpable violence of nature with the magic and stories that speak of legends. It creates an experience that goes beyond mere documentation of the beast, penetrating the mythological and cultural tapestry of Mexico, following the tracks of the mysterious creature.

JOSE LORRUE

1991, Spain

El Salto is a photographic essay that explores migration through the metaphorical act of "leaping into the sea," using the Mediterranean as a border space that reflects the identity and sense of belonging within the Moroccan community.

The project seeks to create new narratives that move beyond traditional discourse and media portrayals of migration. Rather than presenting an assumed documentary reality, it offers a subjective perspective that blends both authentic and constructed elements, resulting in a more nuanced and complex narrative. Through this approach, El Salto aims to create a space for reflection, allowing viewers to connect with the community’s relationship to the sea and the cultural iconography that embodies their struggles, dreams, and aspirations.

MONO NO AWARE

In this work, the transience of every moment is thematized. Mono no aware comes from Japanese art and means that the beauty of things is enhanced by the awareness of transience. The comparison between humankind and nature is intended to make us aware that we too are transient and that every moment is precious. Furthermore, the presence of transience in photography is discussed, how it can be used as a creative tool, and what it means to capture a moment.

ANGELINA NIKOLAYEVA

1997, Ukraine

My work delves into the interplay of color and light, capturing moments where the familiar dissolves into the abstract. In Chromatic Drift, water becomes both subject and medium—a prism of reflections, refractions, and endless layers of meaning.

For me, water embodies a sense of boundless depth, as though its details and textures stretch into something eternal. From shimmering reflections to the prism-like ripples of the sea, each image explores the transient beauty of light in motion.

RYLEY CLARKE

1999, Australia

Dark Signs of a Red Summer’s Shadow is a youth culture narrative that reflects upon the experiences of coming of age, in a fraught and ever-changing world. In this moment of social, political and economic fracturing, young adults have found their transition into adulthood interrupted. The disruptions caused by the pandemic's lockdowns left a generation lost, creating a void of experiences and sensations. Dysfunctioning systems, climate change, escalating wars, and economic uncertainty have all contributed to a sense of apprehension. Coming of age at a time of increasing global challenges has influenced the way young adults the way young adults perceive their present existence and future. This narrative aims to shed light on the experiences and sensations which shape the affective moments of becoming. My practice, through photographic storytelling, delves into a cinematic exploration to examine how ominous shifts in our social world disrupt the transition into emerging adulthood. The body of work aims to capture the disillusionment of growing up and seeks to contemplate an uncertain future in a world transformed.

Through distorted memories and the act of remembering, Caroline explores the quiet beauty of vulnerability and the transient nature of existence.

DANIIL ZOZULYA

1998, Belgium

In October 2023, I began collaborating with the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Uganda (SHAU) to document their relentless fight for inclusivity in Kampala and across Uganda. This collaboration was born out of a deep connection established during an internship with SHAU, where I witnessed firsthand the critical role the organization plays in advocating for the rights of individuals living with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

The resulting photographic project, «E’ssuubi»—meaning “hope” in Luganda—captures the resilience and pride of the individuals and families who face the daily challenges of these conditions. Through this work, I aim to shed light on an issue that profoundly affects Ugandan society and to amplify SHAU’s mission of breaking the taboos that have surrounded these disabilities for decades.

Photography, in this context, becomes more than an artistic medium—it serves as a powerful tool for dialogue, understanding, and advocacy. By partnering with SHAU’s members and residents, I strive to create images that assert their presence and push forward the narrative of inclusivity. Ultimately, «E’ssuubi» is an attempt to redefine and visually embody the word “hope” while honoring the enduring spirit of those whose stories it seeks to tell.
