The new Etro Home Interiors collection combines the rediscovery of the 60s and 70s with the exploration of contemporary style codes. The clean lines of the furnishings contrast with the brand’s characteristic maximalism and eclecticism, evident in the mix and match of eras and styles, as well as in the use of colour and fabrics, central themes of the Etro style.

In their work on Hotel Aka Alexandria, Lissoni
Architecture New York faced the challenge of
reimagining an existing building in Old Town
Alexandria, located near Washington, D.C.

The objective was to create a hotel that embodied a subdued chic and contemporary atmosphere, while incorporating subtle
elements of the region’s colonial style.
Lissoni Architecture New York rose to the challenge.

developed over the last years into a global affair in the footsteps of the art fair . Balancing on the edge of vintage and contemporary design, the arts and unique and collectable pieces, the event is a fresh breath in the world of design. It brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce.
The 2024 event in the Swiss city of Basel honored the late Italian artist and designer Gactano Pesce, who died in April. There were works by Pesce on several galleries stands, and on display outside of the main sales floor.
Design Miami CEO Jennifer Roberts.: “This year’s unique program of significant historical and fresh contemporary works brought energy and a new perspective to our 18th edition in Basel. The result was a strong sales performance from both our established galleries and our impactful list of debut names. There was a deep sense of optimism about the direction of our industry, and we look forward to what’s next at our second Paris edition this October. Design Miami/ is more than a marketplace for design, where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting and objets dart”

The Haas Brothers—twins Nikolai and Simon—continue their ongoing investigation of the slippery divide between art and design with The Strawberry Tree (2023), on view at Design Miami as a co-presentation between Marianne Boesky Gallery and R & Company. The life-size, cast-bronze tree—adorned with intricate, beaded foliage and glowing, blown-glass strawberries—was commissioned for the artists’ recent solo exhibition, Moonlight, curated by Brooke Hodge for the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, TX. “We like to skew things just a little bit, so you know that they’re not reality, even though they feel so palpably almost real,” Nikolai Haas said. “Like you look at this thing and you go, is that real? It’s obviously not. You can’t grow strawberries on a tree. That’s the point.”

When the Ritz Hotel first opened its doors in 1898, it set a revolutionary standard for luxury. Each room featured its own private bathroom—an unprecedented innovation at the time—alongside sumptuous décor of the highest quality: opulent fabrics, intricate tapestries, and gilded accents. Designed to evoke the elegance of an 18th-century jewel, the hotel instantly became a magnet for high society.

Synonymous with glamour, opulence, and world-class dining, the Ritz has played host to a dazzling array of illustrious guests. Literary legends like Ernest Hemingway, Marcel Proust, and F. Scott Fitzgerald frequented its halls, while fashion icon Coco Chanel famously called it home for over 30 years. The hotel also welcomed royalty from across the globe, cementing its place as a cultural and social landmark. Today, its legacy is preserved in suites and areas named in honor of these celebrated figures, seamlessly blending its storied past with timeless luxury.
