Hans Wilschut — Beirut, Epi-Centre Ville

‘Beirut, Epi-Centre Ville’ recalls the aftershock of the explosion that hit Beirut in 2020. This blast gradually disappeared from the news. With this book Wilschut tries to make tangible the paralysis that remained in the city. The disaster killed 218 people and injured thousands. The devastation was enormous and many houses around the harbor were destroyed. Lebanon’s government subsequently fell, making the country politically unstable. The ensuing economic and administrative crisis is still ongoing. With an essay by Dominique Eddé.

The 9th Daegu Photo Biennale opened on September 22nd with the theme ‘Again, with Photography!’.
As part of the Biennale there is the exhibition titled 'The Power of Photography, in Print’.
Contemporary photobooks have evolved beyond traditional formats, showcasing innovative designs and forms. This exhibition presents 100 photobooks that capture the characteristics of the photographic medium, alongside 24 books delving into the history and significance of photobooks. Many out-of-print or hard-to-find books are on display, so we kindly ask for your interest and attention. Additionally, 26 domestic and international artists, photographers, editors, designers, publishers, curators, and researchers participate in a commentary format. Through their perspectives, this will be an opportunity to explore the contemporary value of photobooks from various angles.

‘Slowtime, Alabama & The Beautiful Sadness’ is about The Deep South, a highly complex and interesting part of the US. And is a fairytale-like photo/text book about good and evil, the human condition, an alt-right chipmunk who goes by the name of Jeremiah Day, and ultimately about the fear of the other. The book consists of photographs, and texts about things Sanne Peper experienced and tales people told her.

💫💫We proudly present our new book ‘This is Bliss’ by Jon Horvath Published in collaboration with Yoffy Press 🟡🟠 This Is Bliss is a trans-media narrative project investigating the vanishing roadside geography and culture of a rural Idaho town named Bliss. The project considers how mythologies of place and happiness collide, and are frequently confounded, in a location with a complex narrative of booms and busts that reflects the complicated history of American Idealism and Manifest Destiny. All that remains in Bliss is two gas stations, a school, a church, a diner, and two saloons to service its 300 current residents. Through a thorough look at the contemporary landscape and its residents, ‘This Is Bliss’ contrasts romantic visions of the American West with its contemporary reality and considers how the heights of idealism are envisioned on both a personal and cultural level. 📚📚 You can find the book in our webshop.
