The World Championships of Performing Arts is in a totally different class of its own. It’s not like TV programmes such as “Idols” or “The Voice”. What makes this event different then? Well, here’s a few facts about the event:
- This event was created by Griff O’Neill (Former CEO of Miss Universe) to create a platform for Performing Artists from around the world to compete in an international comp
etition against contestants from all over the world in their own category against someone from the same age and gender. (So that means that if you are a sixteen-year old girl, you will only compete against girls from over the world in ages 16-17 in your qualifying category. Should you be one of the selected few who have exceptional talent and make it through to the finals to compete for the GRAND CHAMPION OF THE WORLD EVENT, only then would you have to compete against other ages and all genders.)
- This is a performing arts event for serious contestants. Meaning: If you can sing, that’s one thing, but to be a performing artist you must also be able to perform, have entertainment and stage quality and be able to hold your microphone right… That’s just a few of the judging criterias.)
- The aim of this competition is educational, we want to help you grow as an artist and provide a platform where you can LEARN more about the performing arts. Why do we say this event is educational?
• We may also invite amateur performing artists to provide them the chance to grow. A lot of contestants who compete one year and don’t win a medal have the opportunity to use what they’ve learned at the WCOPA and compete again the next year. We support growth of our contestants and want everyone to use this opportunity to be the best performing artist they can be.
• At the WCOPA event, scholarships will be awarded from the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts for Film and Television and from Millenium Dance Complex.
• You have the opportunity to attend bootcamps. (Have a look on our website for examples of bootcamps you can follow.) The bootcamps are free and will be offered on Saturday (one day before opening ceremonies and two days before the actual competition rounds start.)
• You have the chance to meet contestants with the same dreams as you from all over the world. At the National Opening Ceremonies, you will be holding Holland’s (or Belgium’s) flag high and be walking in a real official national uniform. National costumes are worn on this day and a short explanation of each costume before each team walks on stage will make this day a great cultural experience.
