The Power of Belief
A man was driving along a tranquil country road when his car skidded and landed in a deep ditch. Frustrated but unhurt, he trudged to the nearest farmhouse for help.
The farmer listened patiently, nodded, and said, “Don’t you worry. I’ll get you out.” He grabbed a sturdy rope and led his old horse to the scene.
At the ditch, the farmer secured the rope to the car and positioned his horse in front of it. Then, he called out, “Pull, Lightning, pull!” The horse stood still.
“Pull, Thunder, pull!” he shouted again. But the horse didn’t move an inch.
“Pull, Comet, pull!” he yelled, yet the horse remained unmoved.
Finally, the farmer said, “Pull, Dusty, pull!” At these words, the horse leaned forward, muscles straining as it dragged the car effortlessly out of the ditch.
The man, still catching his breath, looked at the farmer in amazement. “Why did you call your horse by all those different names?” he asked.
The farmer grinned knowingly. “Dusty’s blind,” he said. “If he thought he was pulling alone, he wouldn’t even try.”
Sometimes, belief is all it takes to turn the impossible into the possible. Even when we can’t see what’s around us, knowing we’re not alone gives us the strength to keep going.
