In the western German state of Hesse, the number of wild boar infected with African Swine Fever has increased to at least six, indicating that the initial infection was not an isolated case, but that the virus has spread within the local wild boar population.

The agricultural ministry reported five additional cases found within a 500-meter radius of the first case in the district of Groß-Gerau, all within a core zone established after the initial infection on June 14.

Another pig talk is live! This time we discuss how to treat heat stress in pigs. ☀️

Heat stress influences the well-being of pigs and can cause trouble for the next cycle as well. There are different systems to create a better climate for the pigs and to reduce heat stress.

Josine Gelauf is a veterinarian based In the Netherlands. Together with Iris Hofman, audiovisual editor of Pig Progress, she visits the pig farm of Faculteit Diergeneeskunde (Utrecht University). This facility uses a water misting system and ventilators to tackle heat stress.
