10 Shocking Discoveries In The Underwater World

Mankind has always interested in the question what is in the depths of the underwater. For a long time, there was no answer for this question until the first equipment for diving has been invented. Since that time, a lot of discoveries has been made in the bottom of the world ocean.

AMAZING!!! Desert Blooms into A Mauve-coloured Carpet of Flowers

Atacama Desert is always one of the driest place across the entire globe, and when it was slammed with nearly a year’s worth of water in a 12-hour period (0.9 inches, in comparison to the annual average of 0.13), flooding took almost 30 lives and left many more homeless and injured. Following the frightening effects of the flash flooding – in addition to more that occurred in August – the Atacama’s normally bone-dry landscape was lashed with rain.

Chile’s Atacama Desert, which is known as one of the driest places around the world, has turned into a spectacular carpet of flowers which looks like a psychedelic wonderland of shades of purple.

Couple creates enormous 11-foot bed so they can sleep with their 5 cats and 2 dogs

Pets are a part of the family. As such, they often demand prime sleeping real estate — i.e., your bed.

Reddit user Robdogbird and his girlfriend are the proud of owners of five cats and two dogs. Unfortunately, every single one of their snuggly pets wants to sleep on their bed, which wasn't large enough to accommodate such a menagerie.

The solution was both simple and daunting: create an enormous, 11-foot super-bed to fit their whole animal family. So that's exactly what they did.

The impressive bed was apparently achieved by pushing two mattresses together and then building a frame around them. As Robdogbird explained on Reddit:

We had the king spring mattress and wanted to try the memory foam but they are super expensive so we got full foam mattress. We also needed storage so we skipped bedframe and boxspring and framed out storage under it so we lined up height to make them even. The seam is noticeable when you lay across it but not nearly what you would think. Sheets are just one set full and one king, matching if we can find them. The comforters are just two full and cover it perfectly, also nice if she wants covers and I don't. Option for squishy spring or more firm foam is actually nice option.

All of the pets are clearly stoked to finally have a roomy bed for optimal bedtime cuddles.

Freaky Giant Cat Also Has A Big Heart

This enormous fake cat might look creepy, but let’s not be so quick to judge. There’s a gentle soul under that nightmare fuel.

Earlier this year, Kotaku first reported that Kuroneko Yamato (Black Cat Yamato), a Japanese shipping service, set up a huge cat-faced billboard in Shibuya. Now, this fall, the company rolled out a full giant cat in Shinjuku.

Imagine walking along and seeing THIS:

Kitten Shatters Hind Legs in Fall, Ends Up Homeless at the MSPCA

An eight-week old kitten is recovering from a traumatic fall from a second-story balcony in Roxbury before undergoing extensive surgery today on her shattered hind legs, along with treatment for a severe flea infestation, the MSPCA-Angell announced today.
Tibby was surrendered by her owners who found her outside and meowing in pain after the fall. Unwilling to endure the extensive rehabilitation required to see Tibby back to health, they left the desperate feline at the MSPCA so that she could receive the life-saving care she needs.
“Unfortunately this is a story we see all too often—in fact, this week we’ve done surgery on three other cats with severely broken limbs,” said Alyssa Krieger, manager of the MSPCA-Angell’s Boston Adoption Center. “But as we do with every animal in our care, we’ll do all we can to get her well before we can find her a responsible and loving home.”
Next Stop: Surgery
Tibby’s surgery will take place today and the operation will be performed by Dr. Sue Casale of the MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center. Dr. Casale is confident she can repair Tibby’s shattered legs—as well as successfully treat the flea infestation which has caused open wounds and scabbing on the back of her head and neck. “This is a kitten who clearly has not received the care and safe-keeping that she deserves,” said Krieger.

5 tips for taking the best cat photos ever from a celebrity vet

Australian vet Chris Brown looks after animals big and small on his television show, Bondi Vet, but he's also an avid photographer.

He's taken photos of bears in Canada, stingrays in Queensland and alpacas in Ecuador, but one of his favourite subjects is a little tinier and closer to home: cats.

"There’s a reason why cat videos are such a hit on YouTube," Brown told . "It's because people know that there is a personality there, but getting it out of them is a challenge. When you do get it, the rewards are huge, and even bigger than seeing a dog’s personality because it's on show the whole time."

1. Recognise the personality

Straight away, you have to be aware that with a cat, you're dealing with a strong personality. You have to work with it, rather than against it. Dogs you can call, get their attention and get them in a certain position. With a cat, don’t even try. The more you try with a cat, the more they won’t be a part of the shoot that day.

You have to be more covert and under the radar. If they are exploring, explore with them. Get down to their level and even crawl on the floor. Occasionally, they will pause or do something and flash you a gaze. You have to be patient and ready to grab that moment.

2. Don't force it
Don’t have the kind of shot you are looking for fixed in your mind. Sometimes you may be waiting for them to play or flick a ball with their paw, however that may not happen in the time you want. You may never get that shot. Be open to what they are showing you at the time.

3. Check your lighting
Lighting is important with cats. Cat’s eyes are fascinating, and their pupils can tell you a lot about their mood. Generally, the more fired up they are, the wider the pupils will be. The more relaxed and sleepy they are, the narrower they will be.

Cats with slits in their eyes look distant and a bit cold, as if they aren’t in the room with you. Cats with wide pupils look a bit crazy. Usually something in the middle is right. It's a challenge, but it's a challenge you'll be rewarded for.

4. Get them after a nap
In terms of the best time of day, it's a bit of an experiment. If they are just starting to sleep, there isn’t much of a chance. But if they are coming out of a sleep, they are in the middle zone of being a little bit sleepy and little bit playful. After a cat’s sleep is a pretty good time to capture their attention. It comes back to working with them — don’t rush them and don’t force them.

5. Be on their level
Don’t be scared to put yourself out there, provided the neighbours aren’t looking over the fence at the time. The more you roll around on the ground and make yourself interesting, the more likely it is they will look at you. Make little sounds, get down to their eye level and crawl around and do something that’s worthy of a look from them — then you might get the shot.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Befriending Strange Cats

One of the ironies of cat behavior is how cats are attracted to people who don't like them. By deconstructing the behavior of cat haters, we cat lovers can learn a thing or two.

When humans don't care for cats, they try to avoid looking at them and at the same time keep an eye on them. They want to make sure that the cat isn't coming ... Oh damn, here it comes, rubbing on my leg, jumping in my lap, purring.

Let's look at this from the cat's point of view. All aggression in the feline world starts with staring. Polite cats are demure; they look briefly and then look away. So when you meet a cat you want to be friends with, note its location in the room and avert your eyes.

When humans don't like cats, they try not to pet them. If the cat comes over, the person might instinctively pet it once, then he withdraws his hand and hopes the cat will go away. Of course, playing hard-to-get with a cat is one of the best ways to make friends. So if you want to be friends with a new cat, let it approach, offer your knuckle, and let the cat get your smell and pet itself against you (she will push into your knuckle and run her cheek along it). Then ignore her for a couple minutes while she sniffs your legs.

Once the cat has decided you are worthy, you can move to the next step: the full-stop pet. To do this, stroke the cat from the top of its head all the way off the tail. As you reach the end, gently cup your hand around the tail and continue the stroke as if the tail was three or four inches longer than it is. Do this just once. The cat will expect you to start another stroke at its head -- but you don't. This unmet anticipation gets into the cat, like a repeating song lyric, and it will all but demand you pet it again. After a few minutes, you can do so, maybe even two or three times. The goal is to interrupt the petting when the cat expects more. Dirty pool -- but very effective.

Finally, when you see a cat the second time, nod your head subtly at it when you enter the room. The cat will probably move its head in a similar way. Go through the demure look, the presentation of the knuckle, and the full-stop pet. At this point you are acquaintances with promise. You are ready to take it to the next level: the long blink.

In this movement, wait until the cat is across the room from you. Look at the cat with soft eyes until it looks at you, and the second it does, begin a long, slow blink. You want to keep your eyes closed long enough that it's clear you are not normal blinking, but not so long that you seem to be falling asleep. If the cat believes you are a friend, it will long-blink back at you (cats do this properly so use her timing the next time you long-blink). You can do this back and forth a couple times.

From the cat's point of view, you are saying, "I trust you enough to close my eyes in your presence." For a prey animal that fancies itself a significant danger, this is the equivalent of saying, "I love you."
