Short documentary “No Nation Without Culture” by Vladlena Sandu will premiere at DocLisboa in October. Produced by Mimesis in collaboration with Revolver.
““While shooting a film in April of 2021 in Grozny, Chechnya (the birthplace of my mother and where I grew up), I felt the influence of the gigantic portraits of Putin, Kadyrov Senior and Kadyrov Junior all over the city. They observed me from everywhere. In parallel to the production of the film, we set out to capture the feeling of totalitarianism that these portraits conveyed. We got up at 4 in the morning and shot through the window of a tinted car because such actions put us under threat of persecution. We understood that we were documenting the time of the birth of fascism in Russia.” Vladena Sandu

Extremely happy that our feature film 'Mandai River' by Michael Sewandono just received full financial production support of €1M, kickstarting the financing and packaging progress.

Especially proud as this is quite a unique film to receive such trust from the fund: this will be Michael's first feature length film, set in nowadays Indonesia against the backdrop of the palm-oil industry. A drama/thriller in English and Indonesian language and to say it is a complex and ambitious project is an understatement.

But most of all, incredibly topical and urgent and we really want to thank all the supporters during the extensive development process, including the Nederlands Filmfonds, EAVE (Ties that Biend) and Cannes L'Atelier and co-writer Roelof Jan Minneboo

One of our upcoming feature films ‘Under the Naked Sky’ by writer/director Lilian Sijbesma has been selected as one of the projects in post-production to be presented during Karlovy Vary Int Filmfestival at the First Cut+ Works in Progress Selection.

First Cut+ is a programme created for boosting the competitiveness and marketability of feature films that previously participated in First Cut Lab. The programme was launched in 2020 through close cooperation with two dynamic and well-established film industry platforms: Trieste’s When East Meets West and Karlovy Vary IFF’s Eastern Promises Industry Days. Each year, it promotes a portfolio of 16 fiction feature films at the stage of post-production – eight of them will be presented in Karlovy Vary.

Producer Kirsi Saivosalmi will be on-site to present the film!

A great interview with creative producer Kirsi Saivosalmi about working on our co-production EAMI by Paz Encina, premiering at this years Tiger Competition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam

“I hope this film gets to travel internationally as much as possible,” the producer states. She adds that the story it tells should have a universal resonance in spite of its Paraguayan settings. “Nature bleeds everywhere. As we speak, this is happening around the world.”

Our co-production EAMI will have its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam as part of the Tiger Competition. I am so immensely proud: this is such a strong, unique and very urgent movie.

Paraguayan director Paz Encina travelled to Chaco for this film. She immersed herself in Ayoreo-Totobiegosode mythology, and listened to heartrending stories about how the people are being chased off their land. Based on the knowledge she acquired, she made a dreamy, magic-realist film about a little girl called Eami. After her village is destroyed and her community disintegrates, Eami wanders the rainforest. She is the bird-god – she explains in the poetic voice-over, in her own language – looking for whomever may be left.

“EAMI” by Paz Encina will have its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam as part of the Tiger Competition!
Eami means ‘forest’ in Ayoreo. It also means ‘world’. The indigenous Ayoreo-Totobiegosode people do not make a distinction: the trees, animals, and plants that have surrounded them for centuries are all that they know. They now live in an area experiencing the fastest deforestation on the planet.

First news about our new co-production ‘Eami’.
“Eami” delivers full immersion in the worldview mindset, forest and tragedy of Eami, aged 5, a member of the Ayoreo Totobiegosode community whose homeland is invaded by white hired-hands intent on brutally corralling the Ayoreo and driving them out of their ancestral lands.”
Very proud to have pulled this of with such a stellar group of fellow producers and most of all of the amazing director
