The Member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Moses Essien, who came into power under the Young Progressives Party-YPP, has been declared as the winner of the State Assembly election of March 18, 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission - INEC in Oko-Ita, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, with overwhelming score of 17,502 votes. While his close rivalry, Obong Godwin Ekpo, of the Peoples Democratic Party - PDP scored only 10,947 votes.

This followed the outcome of the rerun election conducted yesterday, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the 21 affected units cutting across seven wards in the Local Government Area.

Recall that Obong Ekpo upon defeat by the incumbent Lawmaker with a landslide victory of eighteen thousand two hundred and twenty three (182023) scores, during the March 18, 2023 State Assembly election, had challenged the victory in the court, where the court in its ruling, declared 21 units inclusive, thereby, reducing Hon. Essien's score to sixteen thousand eight hundred and seventy nine (16879) votes, while Obong Ekpo, too, reduced from Ten thousand five hundred and fifty two (10552) to Nine thousand eight hundred and eighty nine (9889).

Addressing his teeming supporters shortly after the victory, the incumbent Member whose face was covered with smiles, appreciated his constituents for their love and inestimable support given to him to uphold his mandate at the State Assembly, promising to remain committed to giving them effective representation.

Meanwhile, Hon. Essien wins with a massive margin of (six thousand five hundred and fifty five 6,555) votes. While the rerun election had Nine thousand nine hundred thirty three (9,939), across the 21 units for grasp of which only One thousand six hundred and eighty one was realized (1681).

The Traditional Rulers Council of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, December 29, 2023, delightedly passed a vote of confidence on Hon. Moses Essien, given his superlative performance at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Leading in conversation on behalf of the council of monarchs at IWADU House, Ikpa Pavilion, during a Thank you meeting organized by the Ibiono Ibom State Lawmaker, the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom, HRM Edidem (Dr.) Ime Udoudoro Inyang, emphatically expressed gratitude to the Lawmaker, for not disappointing them but availing himself as a special instrument of honour and blessing to Ibiono Ibom.

The monarch, while noting with pride that the decision to extoll Essien's sterling leadership qualities was meritoriously fit owing to his laudable massive performance within a few months in the office, added that the Lawmaker has not only shamed 'the enemies of progress' but also cured all doubts that threatened his capability.

While expressing optimism that 2024 would herald the new dawn of happiness and total liberation from victimization for Ibiono Ibom indigenes, the monarch encouraged leaders who intend to perform excellently in leadership to emulate Essien's magnanimous gesture towards chiefs, assuring that for leaders to succeed in life, they need to possess virtue of love, truth and charity for humanity.

A'Ibom PDP state exco member, Enobong Harry joins OBA in YPP

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, August 23, suffered a major blow as her state assistant organizing secretary 1, Hon. Enobong Harry dumped the party and pitched tent with the senator representing Akwa Ibom North East in the National Assembly and Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Albert aka OBA.

Hon. Enobong Harry is a grassroot politician, former councillor in Esit Eket LGA and former Akwa Ibom State PDP Youth Leader.

In his letter of resignation from PDP, addressed to his former ward chairman and personally signed by him, the former labour committee chairman in Esit Eket LGA said, his reason for dumping the umbrella party to YPP was for him to partner with Senator Albert in his quest to become the governor of Akwa Ibom State.

"I write to formally notify you and indeed the People's Democratic Party in Esit Eket LGA and Akwa Ibom State of my decision to withdraw my membership from the party going forward.

"The bold decision is hitherto in line with my conviction to partner with my dear brother distinguish Sen. Obong Bassey Albert Akpan to actualize God's promises to the people of Akwa Ibom State."

In a telephone interview with Ikpaisong Reporters correspondent on Tuesday, Hon. Enobong John Harry confirmed his resignation and defection.

"Yes, the online letter of resignation is from me. I resigned from PDP. I've to move on. I am in YPP now".

On Senator Bassey Albert's chances of becoming the next executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, the former PDP Youth Leader expressed optimism, saying OBA is more popular than the PDP governorship candidate.

"Let me commend President Muhammadu Buhari for the introduction of Bio-Modal Voters Accreditation Machine System ( BIVAS) in our electoral system. The transparent electoral processes witnessed in Ekiti and Osun states were indications that candidates who popular and love by electorates can win any election in Nigeria. OBA is popular and love by the people.

"He has good intentions for Eket federal constituency in particular and Eket Senatorial District in general.

"I am supporting OBA for governor and Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh for Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency", he said.

I was happy to witness the Peace Accord between Ibiono Ibom people and the Arochukwu people at Arochukwu on Monday 28th June, 2021.

It was my first official assignment as the Supervisory Councilor on Security Matters, Ibiono Ibom LGA.

I must appreciate my Executive Council Chairman Rt. Hon. Ekopimo Polycarp Edet for your confidence in me to oversee the issue affecting the peace and security of Ibiono Ibom land and people.

I can't stop to recognize the effort of the Traditional Institutions lead by HRM Edidem Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang, Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom LGA in according Peace and security between the two communities.

It was a great experience Last week Friday, 25th June, 2021 as the Executive Council Chairman of Ibiono Ibom, Rt. Hon. Ekopimo Polycarp Edet flag off skills acquisition program for the unskilled youths to reduce the rate of unemployment among the Youths of Ibiono Ibom.

The event which took place at the James B Ekpo Secretariat, Oko Ita had in attendance the SSA to the Governor on Skill Development, Mrs Alice Ekpenyoung heavily represented by Pastor Godwin George, Director of Training and Administration Skill Development Office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, H. E. Udom Emmanuel, the SA to the Governor on Projects Monitoring, Peace Akpan, the Leader of the 7th Legislatives Council, Hon. Udeme Sunday experience number of youths in attendance for the training.

The State Coordinator of Ibom Youth Enterprenureral Empowerment Initiative, Mr. Ubong Asuquo thank God for the opportunity to flag off the training despite the Covid 19 pandemic in the country. He went further to appreciate the Executive Council Chairman Rt. Hon. Ekopimo Polycarp Edet for being a true grassroots developer, a rare attitude of government managers.

Permit me to use this medium to inform us that Ibom Youths Enterprenureral Empowerment Initiative is aim at developing the unskilled youths with industrial skills that can make them employers of labour after the training.

The Executive Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ekopimo Polycarp Edet in his opening remark acknowledge God for His grace and sustainability as Leaders of Government and people of Ibiono Ibom. 'I am most grateful to the initiators of Ibom Youth Enterprenureral Empowerment Initiative, Mr. Ubong Asuquo, a team determined to make great impact on the life of our Youths.

I can't stop to recognize the SSA to the Governor on Skills Development Mrs. Alice Ekpenyong represented here by the Director of Training and Administration, Skills Development office of the Governor, Pastor Godwin George, SA to the Governor on Projects Monitoring, Miss Peace Akpan, the Leader, Hon Udeme Sunday and every other principal officers of the Council and Legislatives I must also recognized the Youths for accepting the training because without the students there will be no teacher. We were expected to have only 500 trainees but what I am seeing is more than 500 youths showing readiness and acceptance of the program'

'I want to encourage all the youths to be Industrious to get access to financial support for meaningful business adventures rather than roaming around the streets begging as the only means of survivals. When you demand for financial aid to expand your industry or business it easily accessible than begging for feeding money. My administration is aim at teaching Youths on how to fish than to feed them with fish'.

"Let us arise and be trained for this two week exercise in any of the following skills; Driving, Catering, Paint production, etc as I flag off this training in the name of God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit to the glory of God".

Also speaking at the event is the SSA to the Governor on Skills Development Mrs. Alice Ekpenyong represented by Pastor Godwin George, Director of Training and Administration, Skills Development office of the Governor who expressed his satisfaction with the Youths of Ibiono Ibom for accepting the Training Exercise.

Pastor Godwin George drew the attention of Ibiono Ibom youths to the importance attached to Human Capital Development by His Excellency, Dcn. Udom Emmanuel. He said the Governor has demonstrated his committment by putting in place Skills Development office: office of the Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency on SME, office of the Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency on Brand Marketing, SSA on Enterpreneuship among other platforms.

According to him, while the Skills office trains, mentor and monitor, the SME office sees to the establishment of trainees as Small & Medium Enterprise, and the brand marketing sees to the branding of whatever is produced.

Pastor George appealed to trainees to be serious and concentrate in the training programme, and also feel free to assess the offices or platforms put in place by the Governor to enable them metamorphise into MSME, then full fleshed enterpreneur. He said His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel is the first Governor to establish these Human Capital Development arms to reach out to the Youths for purposes of Training and Empowerment. He encouraged the youths to see this opportunity as an important step to rescue them from poverty.

Also, the Supervisory Councilor for Youths and Sports, Elder Umanah Umanah appreciated God for the ability to train the first batch of Youths with industrial skills and Charges the Youths to take the training seriously.

Other digniteries present at the event were the Deputy Leader, Hon Kufre Eyo Effiong, Head of Local Government Civil service, Dr. Mandu Ekpenyong, Secretary to the Council, Hon. Deaconess Mandu Esoh, Dean College of Supervisors, Hon. Emem Usoro, Mr. Akan Anana, Supervisor for Security Matters, House Leader, Hon. Joseph Udo, Hon. Ita Ukpong, Hon. Idorenyin Etok, Elder Hon. Gabriel Sunday, Hon. Elijah Uwak, Hon. Sunday Esin Sunday, Hon. Idorenyin Umoren, Hon. Emmanuel Maurice.

At the end, the Executive Chairman of Ibiono Ibom appreciated His Excellency for his interest in developing the youths of Always Ibom skill-wise. He thanked the SSA to His Excellency on Skills who was represented by Pastor Godwin George for deeming it fit to grace the ceremony. The chair was full of praises to the coordinator of Ibom Youth Enterprenureral Empowerment Initiative for his ingenuity and passion for skill development. He, however thanked all were part of the flag off ceremony.

GOODWILL MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF YEAR 2021 CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATION BY THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF IBIONO IBOM LGA, RT. HON. EKOPIMO POLYCARP EDET.

I feel very privileged to join our dear Governor, His Excellency Mr UDOM Emmanuel, President Muhammadu Buhari, and other leaders of good conscience to celebrate our Children today, May 27th, being International Children's Day.

Though abated by COVID-19, today is not only to honour our beloved Children with colourful celebrations and fun-filled moments. It is a day to appreciate God for honouring us by giving His beloved heritage to us for guidance. In celebrating this day, therefore, we must be careful not to forget that Children are the heritage of the Lord, and we owe them love, care, guidance, good counsel and parental control.

Admittedly, all adults and older people today were once children, but the style of upbringing determines what each child grows to become. Let me state that my dear Governor UDOM Emmanuel was once a child, former President Goodluck Jonathan was a child, Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert was once a child, and I too, was once a child. Contrarily, every security challenge experienced around us lately are perpetrated by people who were once children, therefore, every 27th May must remind us as parents that our duties are to among other things, ensure that we inculcate in our kids values, morals and good virtues, while timelessly reminding them of their roles in making the world a better place and not to constitute nuisance, insecurity and threat to the development of our nation.

Children, who are leaders of tomorrow deserve good and quality education, security and infrastructural development. *FEC MEETING POSTPONED*

The Federal Executive Council meeting that was scheduled to hold on Wednesday 26th May, 2021 has been postponed. In a notice signed by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha said the development is as a result of the recent happenings in the country and that the meeting will now hold on Wednesday the 2nd day of June, 2021 at the state house, Abuja.

*FLAGS IN THE COUNTRY TO FLY AT HALF MAST*

The President and commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari has ordered all flags to fly at half mast in the country in honour of the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and others who died in a crash in Kaduna last weekend.

The flags in the presidential villa will remain in half position from Monday 24th May to Friday 28th May, 2021 in honour of the departed heroes.

*WORK FREE DAY*

Due to the death of the COAS, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and others, the President declared Monday 24th May, 2021 as work free day for all military personnel in the country.

*KIDNAPPING AND BANDITS*

Youths numbering up to 10,000 blocked the Abuja - Kaduna express road on Monday 24th May, 2021 on the count of kidnapping in the country.

One of the protesters, Mr. Segun Oshe lamented the negligence of the Federal Government over the latest development in the country and then call on all youths to rise up and protect the country.

*TINUBU/AKANDE SAY NO TO SEPARATIST TENDENCIES*

In a bid to curb the increase yearnings from different parts of the country to go on their different ways, the National Leader of the APC with the South West leader of the same party rose over the weekend to condemn moves by groups to break the country in to different regions.

In their separate remarks, Tinubu and Akande respectively enjoined different ethnic groups to work together for a better Nigeria.

*NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER*

The senate committee on communication held a public hearing on the need for the country to have NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER. The chairperson of the committee, Senator Oluremi Tinubu pleaded on Nigerians to bring on their input to the suggested number.

The minister of communication Isa Pantami said if accepted, "there will be emergency centres built in all the 36 states of the federation and FCT before the end of the first quarter of 2022."

*LAGOS-OGUN JOINT DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION*

The Lagos state Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ogun State Governor Mr. Dapo Abiodun for the joint venture.

According to them, the commission will help in developing both states. Withnessing the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) were the Attorney General of Lagos State, the Deputy Governor of Ogun state and other dignitaries.

Governor Udom Emmanuel is set to commission some of his projects to mark his six (6) years in office.

*YDPN APPOINTS FOUR ZONAL CHAIRMEN DURING THE MAY 2021 LEADERSHIP SUMMIT*

The may 2021 YDPN National Leadership summit held in Abuja had in attendance youths from different works of life as well as members of the YDPN National Working Committee, State Cordinators, State Secretaries and other party faithfuls. During the summit, Vibrant Youths were appointed as new zonal Chairmen.

Engr. Segun Balagun was appointed the South West Zonal Chirman, Comr. Anthony Ekwubiri for South East Zone, Comr. Anthony O. Akpeki for South South and Comr. Torhile Arumun for the North Central Zone.

The appointment notification letter dated May 17 2021 was signed by the interim National Chairman Comr. Wilson Uche Ugwu who said that the appointment was to expand our broadbase and achieve more results. He urged all party faithfuls to support and give the appointees the needed support to carry out duties attached to their office.

*CONCLUSION OF YDPN CONSTITUTION REVIEW AND COMPILATION*

As the party continues to ensure all requirements for registration are met, a committee was constituted during the May 2021 National Leader Summit to lead the formation of YDPN Constitution.

The Committee which is Chaired by Comr. Chucks J. Eluemunor has presented a draft copy of the constitution to all party members for review.

The General Collation/ Plenary, according to The Chairman of the Committee, Comr. Chucks J. Eluemunor was slated to hold on Wednesday 19th May, 2021 followed by the Compilation/ drafting of the final constitution on Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd May, 2021 concluding with the official Presentation of the Constitution to the National Chairman today Monday 24 May, 2021.

As battle to who becomes the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State remains uncertained with series of meetings, indoor consultantations and campaigns by groups for their candidates, a socio-political organization in the state known Eastern Ibibio People Association, a conglomerate of four Local Government Area's on Tuesday consulted Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, the highest Ibibio decision Making body seeking for their support and backing ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State.

The group which is drawn from the Eastern part of the state comprises of Itu, Ibiono Ibom, Ikono and Ini Local Government Area's respectively with a formidable leadership of past political leaders in each of Local Government Area's whose aim is based on the agitation for a transparent and opened zoning system of governorship position to Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency.

The group who noted with dismay the political and developmental marginalization meted on the area since the advent of democracy in 1998 describing it as barbaric, demonic and obnoxious to the political, social, economic and cultural history of the Eastern Ibibio people.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Obong Barr. Eteyen Archibong who led executive members of the association intimated the leadership of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio that the people of the four local government areas that constituted the association have been neglected and deprived of development projects by successive regimes in the state.

He regretted that the completion agenda of the Udom Emmanuel led government has excluded the people of Ibiono Ibom, Ikono, Itu and Ini Local Government Area's in the scheme of governace in the state which is directly or indirectly an abuse cm a slap to the good people of the areas.

He bemoaned the level of attacks on the people of the areas by invaders from Abia and Cross River states.

“As we speak, the people of Ini, and Itu local government areas are counting losses of live and properties on a daily basis due to continuous attacks by the people of Abia to Nkari people in Ini and Cross River State to the people of Itu arising from the popular fight between Ikot Offiong and Oku Iboku people yet, the government pays deaf ears to their cries and yearnings.

"We collect all the bullets as boundary Local Government Areas, but, when the time to share comes, nobody remembers us. That’s the plight of the Eastern Ibibio people”. He stated.

Obong Eteyen Archibong however noted that the act of cross deprivation and negligence meted on them has politically deduce their stance, voice, welfare cm wellbeing as a people while soliciting for support of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio as one of the foremost decision makers who can influence their agitation to the achievable.

“We have come to you, to appeal, to seek your support. We are not violent, we are not fighting. We are simply saying that our brothers in Uyo and Etinan federal constituencies having tasted the office before, should allow the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency the opportunity to also have a taste of power”.

He noted that Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio has over the years evolved into a strong, formidable and influential pressure group in the state and lauded the current leadership of the organisation led by Akparawa Obong Patrick for sustaining the legacies of its predecessors for some decades since the establishment of the organization.

Responding, Akparawa Obong Patrick Udofia, the 10th President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio commended members of the Eastern Ibibio Peoples Association for their discipline and peaceful manner with which they conducting their advocacy, describing them as men and women of proven integrity.

Obong Udofia stated that Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio being a non partisan organization which is internationally recognized across the globe have registered their plights and agitations assuring to give them a positive feedback immediately after a cabinet meeting as stipulated in the constitution of the organization.

The Eastern Ibibio delegation includes prominent sons & daughters of the Area.
