Morning on Creation Day - Ekong Sampson's Message to Akwa Ibom South
By Theophilus Akpan
An erudite former Commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources and the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) standard bearer in Eket Senatorial District Senate race, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has declared that it is 'Morning on Creation Day for Akwa Ibom South'. He stated this to draw analogy to the fact that, with his victory at the PDP Primaries, a new era of rebirth and creation has been ushered into Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District.
Barr. Sampson, a former two-term lawmaker in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly conveyed his thanks and message of hope through a Press Release signed by him and made available for the public on Tuesday.
In the release, the legislative luminary said:
"I thank our delegates for such clear demonstration of confidence. I thank the PDP for providing a super high way to a very critical legislative engagement. For Akwa Ibom South, a new vista is opening for a fuller story about our senatorial district so rich in diversity and endowments. Part of our famed history is our record in the Red Chambers."
The Onomkpoinam Mkpat Enin also said, earlier in the release, that the "delegates made an emphatic statement about the legislative direction of Akwa Ibom South in the emerging dispensation."
He added "they voted overwhelmingly for me to hoist the flag of our party in the Senate race".
Dr Sampson also acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, the PDP and other stakeholders in the senatorial district and the state at large for showing sense of sacrifice and patriotism by allowing a level playing ground for all the aspirants to contest freely.
The statement read in parts;
"Governor Udom Emmanuel, our leader in the state and our senatorial district, deserves garlands for his exemplary sense of sacrifice and patriotism which opened the Senate race for competition in the first place. I thank our teeming supporters led by my Director-General, Sir Michael Essang, former State Deputy Chairman of PDP for running a markedly, issue-based campaign".
Barr. Sampson acknowledged and commended the maturity and healthy engagement which other aspirants have maintained in the Akwa Ibom South Senate primaries.
He, however, invited those who may have been aggrieved with the outcome of the primaries to come and join hands to maintain the victory of the party, PDP.
His words;
"I acknowledge, with deep humility, the healthy engagements which other aspirants have demonstrated in Akwa Ibom South Senate race. I humbly extend an invitation to them to join hands and support our great party to maintain the victory run that the PDP is known for in Akwa Ibom State".
Akwa Ibom South is a region vastly endowed in both human and natural resources and Dr Ekong Sampson has been widely acclaimed to have the needed legislative background, experience and capacity to manage these rich endowments to maximize the advantage for the district. He has been hailed for his bridge building disposition which many believe will unify the diverse interests in the senatorial district. With Dr. Sampson now given the mantle, it is indeed, morning on creation day for Akwa Ibom South.
