It's natural that friends will always be numberless in times of success but in times of failure and challenges they will go on recess. The truth is, we can't live without friends but we can reduce our expectations on friends and increase on God. This liberating understanding will ultimately ameliorate our disappointments and more.

As we navigate the trajectories of life, many people will disappoint us, while many will surprise us. Thus, it becomes necessary to subsist on a common code of less expectations on people but God.

As one hugely helped by many, I live by a simple code, " to inherit friends and not enemies, respect everyone without disdain, show great gratitude to all those that have come through for me; and do good to all men within my reach ". Thus, your enemy is not my enemy but your friends are my friends. Simple!

This was the circulated photo of a vulture waiting for a starving Sudanese girl to die so it can feast on her. It was taken by Kevin Carter, a prolific photojournalist, during the fa mine of 1993 in Sudan. This photo later won Kevin the Pulitzer prize for an 'exceptional' caption.

However, Kevin later got depressed and took his own life four months after his world wide celebration as a skillful photographer. He fell to depression. His depression began when during an interview ( a phone-in programme), someone asked him what happened to the child. *"I did not wait to see what happened after this shot as I had a flight to catch.... ".* And the person replied, "I put it to you that there were two vultures that day; one had a camera". This statement sank Kevin as he constantly thought of the statement, he got depressed and ended his own life.

In whatever we do, let's consider humanity first before what we can gain. Kevin Carter, may still have been alive today had it be he helped that little child.

We have not truly lived, until our lives have become the stars and sunshine of someone else.

Search within you and if there is that one person you feel you can help start now tomorrow might be too late.

Life itself is about problem solving, task completion, pursuit of goals and living on an unending hope. Everyone tows this path, and always having his or her personal battle to fight and aspiration to pursue - this is indispensable in life - just as the collision of molecules and interaction of particles. Conversely, as you navigate this threshold called life, don't lose hope, the moment you don't have atoms of hope, every other thing is laced with frustration. It is hope of days, better situation and better life that keeps everyone going.
There's nothing that so spur hope like encouragement, support, right words and cheer from the people around you.
In this 2023 it is therefore necessary we live by a simple code: say the right words to people around us, encourage friends trying new things or even doing anything to better their lot, support each other and live in a way that rekindles hope to family and friends around us.
This is the path to making our world a better place.

Although I find myself in complete alignment with those who believe there is no new year or old year but a continuum of infinite time. The calendar arrangements - both the Julian calendar credited to Julius Caesar and Gregorian calendar of Pope Gregory X111 that replaces it, were all attempts to calculate time, its cycle and the movement of the sun, and the months January - December were named after Roman deities, emperors and others.

Nevertheless, it is worth celebrating the blessing of living at anytime and moment and seeing the breaking of a new day. The truth is that, time is infinite but we are finite. As time passes we are melting like ice into the atmosphere.
It is therefore instructive we receive every opportunity of time with gratitude, hope and willingness to make positive difference.

Going by the current calculation of time, this is a new year but certainly what we shall experience shall be repulse of our actions and inactions - the actions and consequences formula is timeless. It is therefore necessary we imbibe, inculcate renew our minds continuously in a way that would make each day meets us better than yesterday. It is the new steps, approaches and mindset towards life that will make the year new for us.

Conversely, May I poised that there's a prime mover of all things - God. He has blessed us with life and this is the ultimate blessing. May HE guide us this new year to discover right paths and live in love, unity and peace - all to HIS glory.

Happy new year, my family, friends, leaders and mentors.

Still blossom
In the morning
Showing us beauty

If the soil stil harbours
Our hard seeds
Nurturing them to yield

If the gentle breeze
Stil caresses
Our sun-burnt skin
Soothing us with kind

If the sun still smiles
If d moon still smiles

Shaming d dark night;

Then let us still

For each sincere
Smile on our faces
Smash countless pains;
Let's still hold hands

INFORMATION: Wrong Transfer

In case you mistakenly transferred Money to the wrong account and the owner blocked you? or you are duped thru your bank account? and then later realized that you have been scammed or a mistake on your part? And the receiving bank is not cooperating?

HOW TO RETRIEVE YOUR MONEY AFTER YOUR WRONG TRANSFER

Please read carefully and learn.

Many people don't always know what to do, so today am sharing with you things you do when you realize a page you paid for a service or goods is ghosting you:

1. Write out the Full name and account number of the page or person.

2. Go to the last notification your bank sent you after you made the payment (via mobile app or text) and copy out the "TRANSACTION ID NUMBER".

3. Go to any branch of the scam artist's bank (the bank you transferred to), and ask to see the CUSTOMER SERVICE in charge of FRAUD.

While you are there, send an email to SCAMMER'S BANK or the d bank u wrongly paid to and copy CBN FRAUD DESK ([email protected]) n also [email protected]
& [email protected], this will ginger the bank to take it up fast.

What should you expect from this? The culprit/suspect's account will be PLACED ON HOLD. His BVN will be blocked permanently. No account will ever be opened nor will he be able to transact banking business in that name until he clears himself with the bank.

Meaning he/she cannot transfer or withdraw until they visit the bank, and when they do, the bank will contact the police, and the suspect when proven guilty will sign a waiver allowing the bank to refund your money.

I have come to an humble realization that no matter who you are, how powerful you are or rich you are. You can always meet situations beyond your control - you will try everything using your connections and relationships to fix it but it may seem unfixable.
Don't worry, stay calm and surrender to God.
This is because you are human and nothing can innoculate you from the caprices of your fate and consequences of some actions.
At this point, reflect, pray and surrender all to God. He'll guide you right.
At the end, the truest words are as captured in the bible: "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity."
Keep in mind and meditate on the legendary words of Seneca, "as is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.”

I learnt early enough that the STORM doesn't stop an eagle. An eagle can use the storm to reach UNIMAGINABLE HEIGHTS.
Like the eagle, leverage on your spirit of persistence to excell in your chosen endeavors;
Knowing too well that storms are unavoidable. Moreso, education, intelligence and power are yet to innoculate anyone from the caprices and storms of their fate.

Master the storm and never stop soaring!

Inspite of the many distractions that are concomitant with our generation, it is pertinent to stay focus and humble. Live a life of integrity that will be easy for people to deal with you and trust you. Avoid the desperation to be like others but pay more attention to building yourself and growing - that each day may meets you better than yesterday.

When people trust you, never betray them, don't sabotage someone that has trusted you. Be the reason someone will have trust on other people he will meet in the future. Be honest, genuine and real. People may despise you for this but they are many who will appreciate you.

Focus on the future, the way maker will make a way. HE is never bereft of ways. We are only here because he made a way...

Experience Counts

Just recalled when I offered a course - Administrative law in school. I was having a group reading, trying to solve a question from the past question paper of the course. My colleagues and I, were confused at some point because of the technicality of a question. I put calls across to even lecturers who weren't majored in that field. I noticed I wasn't satisfied with their responses and so were my teammates - they hadn't no experience in the field.

Suddenly, an idea popped up, I told my colleagues that I want to call an experienced lawmaker to seek help and explanation to this tough question. When I told them who the person was, they jestfully said, " Tim don't worry that man wont answer your call". I assured them that my experience with the man is different and that he's of it different stock cloaked with humility and responsiveness. They said, okay, and asked me to go ahead. I could see the doubt in their faces - they have concluded that the big man won't answer my call but they had to just give me a-go-ahead anyway - because of its importance to our study. I then proceeded to call the immediate past leader of Akwa Ibom state house of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Basy Okon , immediately, the call was answered - a unique virtue that endears him to his people - he doesn't ignore calls and calls back if he misses your call.
The immediate answer he gave to the call was a great relief and my team looked at me astonishedly and gave that look which means, "do humble and responsive politicians like this still exist?"

I hurriedly intimated him of the question and the challenge I and my team were facing. Immediately, he gave us a brief lecture which answered all the questions. He didn't stop there he further gave us constitutional references to buttress his point and also shared an experience that relates to the question and our challenge. This posses a revelation to me that, experience truly matters.

My teammates were satisfied and happily, they prayed for him. You can imagine that joy of calling your leader and he represents you well and that respect your colleagues give you because of that.

Without mincing words, Rt. Hon. Barr Ime Bassey Okon knows his onions and is worth his salt in the legislative business and has the intellectual capacity and all-round-know-how to make a difference Wherever he finds himself.

Obong Ime Okon is an asset to the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom. May God bless him.

(Experience with Rt. Hon. Ime Bassey Okon, first published October 31st, 2021)

24 Things A Mum Teaches Her Daughter Before Marriage

My daughter, don’t cause a separation between your man and his siblings; it could be dangerous for you when they
finally speak with one voice.

• My daughter, I know that some of you girls don’t wish to marry a man whose mother is still alive, don’t ever think
like that, if you do, well, I think your son’s wife-to-be should start wishing you're dead now.

• My daughter, listen to me, when I married your father, he was as tiny as his salary but I chose to grow with him and
today, those cars out there are some of the results of what we started so little, together, and we’re proud looking at
them.

• My daughter, there is this thing i see happening in your time, some of you girls now get pregnant before the wedding day, well, it never happened in our time because no matter what, we never opened our laps before the wedding.

• My daughter, well, yes, I once locked up the cloth of your father because I got to my limit of patience and that was
the only thing I could do, but one thing I haven’t said was that we settled the issue that same day and that was the
last time I tried that.

• My daughter, look up there. That’s the wedding picture of your father and I, look at him smiling, I know you've seen it
many times but what you did not know is that your father was angry before taking this picture, I hope you find a man
whose anger doesn't last till the next day.

• My daughter, when your Father was riding a bicycle, I was always happy to hop on it and ride with him, not because I
didn't see those men in their little cars but because my eyes also saw those men trekking to their farms.

• My daughter, if you and your husband eat a little food with love, you both would be satisfied. Times are not always the same; support him in every phase he’s passing through.

• My daughter, don’t ever close your laps to your husband in bed , the day he paid your dowry was the day you lost your will to do so, don’t be stiff and try to satisfy him even if you were angry with him.

• My daughter, a man would respect you and be more proud of you if you’re learned and not totally dependent
on him. Strive to make your own money and while you're at it, be humble.

• My daughter, under the cocoa tree that I did meet with your Father was open and good enough for our discussions, yes; it was open and good enough if you
understand what I mean.

• My daughter, in our time, we had sexy legs and firm bosoms to show our men , in fact, we had the finest ones, yet, when we dress, we cover those parts of our body, not because we were not civilized as you people would call it, but because we know that the eyes of men are hungry, many of them would only come, touch and go their way.

• My daughter, there is this thing you girls now practice, they say it’s feminism. Well, you can prove to be equal to a
man in the society but please, not in your marriage because at my old age, I don’t want to start counting your husbands.

• My daughter, marriage is not a Rehabilitation Centre, if he’s not good enough for you before marriage, nothing he does would be good enough after marriage.

• My daughter, you can see I still wear my night gown , yes, because to my husband; your father, I still want to look
sexy. So, take good care of your body, look good for your man and don’t look like a grandma after giving birth.

• My daughter, I’m your mother and still, I'm not interested in you coming to me always if anything goes wrong with
your husband. Though nowadays I see some mothers controlling the homes of their sons and daughters, I would only say; shame on them!

• My daughter, for you to have a peaceful home and well- trained children, have one voice with your husband, join
him to say NO when he’s saying NO before the kids but later when you both are alone, you can plead with him for
a YES, if not, the children will see a loophole to misbehave, either to you or
their father.

• My daughter, if you chose to live together with a man that you’re yet to be married to , and you are complaining that
he hasn't proposed to you, oh, he already did. Whatever he said that made you start living with him was his proposal.

• My daughter, your generation does not see any pride in been a virgin before marriage, it’s a shame! Your father
met me a virgin and he brought more yams to my parents and up till today, he’s still proud of me when we discuss in
that direction.

• My daughter, I know that no man out there is complete, but when you are looking for your tall, slim, fair and
handsome, if he’s a woman-beater, please, go for the short, fat, dark and ugly that will give you the respect you
deserve as a woman.

• My daughter, know, learn and respect the culture and lifestyle of whoever you chose to marry . In some part of Africa, you knee down to greet your man’s parents while in some part outside Africa; you can even call them by their first name and ask for a handshake. Whatever they believe in, if you've chosen him,
believe it with him also.

• My daughter, don’t ever try to date a married man, whether his excuse was that he doesn't find happiness with his wife or he would have married you if he had met you first, if you ever try it, I curse you already.

• My daughter, when I say over 52 years of marriage , it wasn't that I did not see any reason to leave your father, I saw a lot of them but I bear his faults, i forgave him to stay married.

• My daughter, these are part of the wisdom i have gathered over the years. and If I had taken my time to tell
you all these, and your marriage doesn't last like that of your father and I, then I had wished i never gave birth to
you.

It is natural that when a new thing looms in our millieu - political or social - it evokes mix reactions from different minds, it will naturally capture our heart and dares to even create a stream of yearning and desire in our soul. The advent of a new alternative(s) will naturally magnify loopholes and challenges in the old order and system. Moreso, a system cannot and doesn't favour everyone. The unfavoured ones will see hope in the new planet, while others will find answers to some questions they held vaguely. There will be some like Okonkwo in the book Things Fall Apart who are emotionally attached to the old order without any atom of dynamism. Although, sometimes the new order isn't ideologically or systematically different from the old. This was the case of Nwoye and his father Okonkwo in the legendary Achebe's Things Fall Apart.
This excerpt captures it all: " It was not the mad logic of the Trinity that captivated him (Nwoye, Okonkwo's son). He did not understand it. It was the poetry of the new religion, something felt in the marrow. The hymns and worship songs tends to answer some vague questions that have been taunting his young mind and nebulously give hope. Hence, the attachment to the new religion, unlike his father, Okonkwo that outrightly rejected it".

This is the source fuelling the current political Waves and movements in the country and some states. On the whole, it is healthy for our democracy and should be encouraged.

10/10/2022

My favorite cousin once told me, Timkere, "when we were much younger, going to errands where there were dogs was pretty scary. You're left to return home and give Mom excuses or face the dog and get what you want". Moving forward in life, dogs will attack you but keep the goal in mind and face them... Sometimes the dogs might become your friends or become afraid of you when you bend to get sands. You may never know the outcome, until you try!

In doing all these and moving forward: don't think you won't make mistakes or failed at something, forgive yourself and be humbled enough to start again, build again, apologise if you have hurt People but don't be afraid to stand for the truth and what you believe in - never regret being truthful and standing for what is right - integrity is Honourable, although it might give you enemies sometimes but remain a buoy against negative floods. The Legendary J. K. Rawlings once said, " Some Failure is inevitable. It's impossible to live without failing at something. Except you live so cautious that you might as well not lived at all but in whichever case you have failed by default".

Moreso, don't feel bad when some people refuse to help you. Most times God don't want them to take His glory. Some times helps comes from places you least expected. Sometimes, some doors closes, while others open at the most unexpected places. Be bold to approach the new door. Abraham Lincoln once said, "there's no shame in tears".

Sometimes when people block you in front, there are always openings behind or in sides; never stop pushing passionately. Fine the way!

Envy no one for everyone has a path and so are challenges and gains. There's no perfect life. Content is the wealth of nature but be passionate about self improvement and be hardworking towards being best.

Everyone has a story but no one cares until you are at stardom.

I'm Timkere Essien - Giving up isn't an option✌️

Tough and difficult times may seem like the end but in reality it is just the begining of something new. Truth is, most challenges are not meant to destroy you but to prepare you for the future. Just as some disappoints may be deep and hurting but in its actual sense, it is nature's redirection of your path towards the fulfilment of your destiny. This makes lucid the scriptural admonition in 1 thessalonians 5:18, " In all things give thanks to God, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus". It is through gratitude for the things you have and are blessed with that will help us to endure tough moments, and paramountly: never lose hope but keep hope alive.
