MAKING AfCFTA WORK: MOVING GOODS, OPENING MARKETS

AfCFTA cannot reach its full potential without reliable and affordable systems for moving goods across the continent. Efficient air, sea, road and rail transport is essential to helping African businesses reach new markets and trade more with one another.

In this week’s African Newspage Quote of the Week, Happiness Abisai Nyiti, Founder of AJA Tanzania Limited, highlights the need for reliable and cost-effective ways to move goods across borders. Her experience illustrates the opportunity: as AJA Tanzania expanded across African markets, its export volume grew from about one container a month to 8–17 containers a month.

WOMEN IN POLITICS: IS REPRESENTATION ENOUGH?

Women’s political leadership is not a question of whether women can govern. It is a question of how much longer West Africa can afford to govern without fully including women in positions of political power.

With women holding just 18.4% of parliamentary seats across West Africa, the region continues to face a significant gender gap in political representation. Closing that gap is essential to building more inclusive governance and stronger democratic institutions.
