Plastic Gold: Inside Kano's Recycling Revolution tells the inspiring story of the interconnected actors driving Kano's emerging plastic recycling value chain—from entrepreneurs and waste pickers to women recyclers, REMASAB, and WAPAN—who are transforming plastic waste into jobs, livelihoods, and economic opportunity while building a cleaner, more sustainable future for Kano, Nigeria's second-largest city.

Kano’s circular economy revolution is thanks to a coalition of public institutions, private sector actors and development partners, including the UK-funded Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) programme, which is helping strengthen a more inclusive, formalised and sustainable waste management ecosystem by:

♻️ Training and supporting women-led waste-sorting enterprises across eight metropolitan Local Government Areas.

♻️ Strengthening the skills, organisation and formalisation of waste pickers to improve livelihoods and employment opportunities.

♻️ Fostering stronger collaboration among REMASAB, WAPAN, market leaders, recyclers and informal waste actors.

♻️ Improving registration, data systems, compliance and accountability across the waste value chain.

As Kano confronts growing environmental challenges, this documentary demonstrates how local innovation, entrepreneurship and strategic partnerships are proving that waste is not merely a problem—it is an opportunity to create jobs, strengthen climate resilience, and accelerate the transition to a Circular Economy.
