RED DIARY- LOVE DIARY dropping soon
Chapter One: Unveiled Truths
In a modern duplex nestled within the GRA of Benin, Edo state, the Mudiaga family gathered around the dinner table. Mike Mudiaga, the patriarch, sat alongside his wife Eguonor, their soon-to-be sixteen-year-old daughter Daro, and eight-year-old son Julius. The aroma of rice mingled with a new Chinese sauce Eguonor had been experimenting with, enveloping the room in a comforting embrace.
"Mum, something really weird happened in school today," Daro broke the silence, her brow furrowing with curiosity.
"What happened, sweetie?" Eguonor's gentle voice invited further conversation.
"We were made to take some blood tests during our biology class, and it turns out I am B negative and my genotype is AS. How is that even possible? I remember you and dad are both O positive and AA from the time you donated blood when Julius was ill. They must have made a mistake," Daro exclaimed, her confusion evident.
An uncomfortable exchange of glances passed between her parents before Mike finally spoke, his voice weighted with solemnity. "Itâs no mistake, dear."
"Not now, Mike," Eguonor interjected hastily, her eyes pleading for postponement.
"When then? She has to know, eventually," Mike persisted.
"Letâs wait until after her birthday party, then," Eguonor relented, her tone laced with apprehension.
Daro's confusion only deepened, her features contorted in a mix of curiosity and concern. "What are you talking about? Was I adopted?" she blurted out, unable to contain her growing unease.
"No, sweetie, you were not adopted," Eguonor reassured, her voice trembling slightly. "I carried you in my womb for nine months."
"So what are you hiding from me, then?" Daro's tone grew more insistent, her gaze piercing through the veils of secrecy.
"Finish your food, sweetie," Eguonor redirected, her motherly authority asserting itself.
"I just lost my appetite, and there isnât going to be a birthday party unless you tell me what you are hiding," Daro declared, rising abruptly from the table, her brother Julius trailing behind.
Eguonor sighed, watching her children depart, feeling the weight of her husband's accusation. "Thanks for ruining dinner, Mike. You couldnât have chosen a better time," she lamented.
"It isnât my fault our daughter is becoming wiser," Mike retorted, "my daughter you mean?" Eguonor says with venom. Mike stands up, his frustration palpable as he left the table, leaving Eguonor to wrestle with her regrets "damn, I could have handled that better".
