FROM THE ๐ŸกPALACE OF OKU IBOM IBIBIO

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰A JOINT STATEMENT BY PARAMOUNT RULERS FROM THE THREE SENATORIAL DISTRICTS OF AKWA IBOM STATE ON THE AMENDED TRADITIONAL RULERS LAW, CAP. 155 OF 2022.*

We, the Paramount Rulers, drawn from the three Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State, to wit, Akwa Ibom North East (UYO); Akwa Ibom South (EKET) and Akwa Ibom North West (IKOT EKPENE) wish to formally react and put the record straight on the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap.155 of 2022.

1. First of all, may we formally express our heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for assenting to the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 of 2022; as passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. We equally extend our appreciation to the 7th Assembly for commencing the amendment processes and members of the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for the passage of the law.

2. In effect, the amended Law, which brought forth Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, has enhanced the prestige of the State Traditional Institution, thus situating our own appropriately at the realms of nobility as obtained in other parts of Nigeria.

3. We stand therefore, individually and collectively, to categorically affirm the correctness of the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 of 2022.

4. It would therefore be most dishonourable and unexpected of us as Royal Fathers to renounce or fake ill knowledge of what we all knew about and willingly accepted.

5. In the light of this sacred fact, we totally disassociate ourselves from the inappropriate, misguided and unwholesome reactions orchestrated through protests, law suit and public statements against the amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap 155 of 2022.

6. Furthermore, it is to our chagrin to see the unpatriotic activities of some highly placed political figures who have decided to introduce uncharitable dimensions into a purely traditional matter. We kindly appeal to them to retrace their steps. Enough is enough of sowing discord between Ibibio, Annang, Oron and others.

7. We wish therefore to urge our Royal Colleagues to tread the path of honour and avoid going against their oath of office and oath of allegiance to the Government of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. It must be noted that the sanctity of our traditional institution should not be traded or compromised at the altar of politics.

8. It must be pointed out that His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR has effectively assumed office as President General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in perpetuity, having been sworn in by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State on September 23, 2023. Likewise, His Royal Majesty, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko Local Government Area has assumed office having been equally sworn into office as the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on September 23, 2023.

9. Those engaging in dishonourable acts against the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers should know that the swearing into offices of the President General and the Chairman have effects of Law and cannot therefore be wished away by mere pedestrian actions and vituperations.

10. We therefore congratulate and pledged our loyalty to the leadership of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers under the superintendency of His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR as President General and His Royal Majesty, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, JP, Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko Local Government Area as the Chairman.

11. In conclusion, we urge the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Bassey Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and our distinguished sons and daughters at home and in Diaspora, to know that we totally accept the Amended Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 155 of 2022 and the leadership as put in place on September 23, 2023.

12. We pledged our unalloyed loyalty to the government in line with our oath of office and oath of allegiance and will always defend the sanctity of the culture and traditions of our people.

Long live Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of traditional Rulers!

Long live Akwa Ibom State!!

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

FROM THE ๐ŸกPALACE OF OKU IBOM IBIBIO

"It may interest you to know that our traditional institution has recently undergone dynamic changes through the amendment and passage into Law of the Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulersโ€™ law, cap. 155 of 2022 as assented to, by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.

โ€œConsequently, our apex traditional body is now known and addressed as Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers. The new structure is superintended by a President General, a position that I am privileged to hold effective, September 23, 2023.

The people of Akwa Ibom know that we must live together, be in harmony with the Hausa Community and beyond, do business together, and share ideas that will bring growth and development to our state and Nigeria at large. This is very prominent in our mind, and I want to assure the people that this is a bond of unity,โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve been coming to Akwa Ibom State right from my childhood courtesy of my late father. Iโ€™ll call this the most memorable because this is the first time Iโ€™ve visited since becoming the Emir of Kano. This visit will open a lot of chapters in our relationship. The good rapport between us has to be sustained.โ€

๐Ÿ‘‰Emir Of Kanoโ€™s Visit: Oku Ibom Ibibio Captains Aโ€™Ibom To Play Big League

Joseph Okon

The historic visit of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero to Akwa Ibom State may have ended but the memories and significance of the visit have become a refrain on the lips of the people, fit to form part of their cherished folklore.

Coming on the hills of the well-thought-out amended Traditional Rulers Council law, the importance and gains of the visit to Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council is inextricably linked to the assumption of the role of a pioneer President-General who is the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk JP, CFR, who has evidently launched Akwa Ibom State into the big league flying on the wings of the traditional institution.

Today, Akwa Ibom people are revelling in the royal visit with gargantuan potentials for the growth and development of the State, strengthening the fabrics of national unity, and bonds of friendship and exploring more areas of economic and political cooperation.

Could this august visit have been possible without the assumption of the new throne by the Oku Ibom Ibibio? Certainly no! The visit underscores to the fact that like poles attract. In Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, the Emir of Kano has found an ally who is now a member of his class. That is the magic of the TRC law that has created the office of the President-General.

Definitely, there are some relationships that cannot be ignited because of the capacity of a particular party. Despite the hitherto closeness of the two traditional rulers, there was something lacking in terms of equality in status which was automatically rekindled upon the swearing-in of the President-General on 23rd September, 2023.

By that singular act, a star was โ€œbornโ€ in Akwa Ibom State, and the light was observed from all parts of Nigeria. Hence, the Emir of Kano came to visit the star, with attendant blessings from the royal visit.

But does the pioneer President-General deserve such elevation to the throne? The testimonies are ubiquitous, from home and abroad that the office fits Oku Ibom Ibibio like a second skin.

During the visit, the Emir of Kano hailed Oku Ibom Ibibio in glowing language, describing him as a close brother and national icon. According to him, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk has been a worthy ambassador of the Akwa Ibom State traditional institution, who has been quite resourceful in the contribution of ideas to the National Council of Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, as a repository of knowledge that he is.

Evidently, Ntenyin is not a prophet who is only honoured abroad. At home, Ntenyin Solomon Etukโ€™s antecedents in nurturing the Traditional Rulers Council in Akwa Ibom State, building to become a cynosure in the eyes of the traditional rulers institution in Nigeria.

This was more pronounced in his era as the Chairman of the State TRC for two years, and handed over a stronger and more united body, as he ascended higher rungs on the ladder of the traditional institution, as the pioneer President-General with an intimidating but irresistible profile.

All of this adorned the visit of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero to Akwa Ibom State, with the President-General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Traditional Rulers Council, and Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk as his Chief host.

The beautiful thing about the visit was that the high-profile guest was not concerned about whether his Chief host was from Annang, Ibibio or Oro. To, him, Ntenyin Etuk carried the banner of Akwa Ibom State, and not any dialectical subset of the State.

This clearly aligns with and corroborates the thinking and disposition of the Oku Ibom Ibibio himself, who, despite being an Oku Ibom Ibibio, sees Akwa Ibom State as his primary constituency, in conduct and leadership.

This too, should be emulated by other stakeholders of the traditional institution in Akwa Ibom State. They should all jettison these myopic sentiments for the overall development of Akwa Ibom State.

Meanwhile, the Emirโ€™s visit has provided a platform for trade relations, and a rallying point for the much-needed unity of Akwa Ibom State, as part of the positives of the elevation of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council to the ranking of first-class traditional rulers in Nigeria, a major positive from the enthronement of Oku Ibom Ibibio as pioneer President-General of the Supreme Traditional Rulers Council in Akwa Ibom State.

This should be seen with the progressive binoculars of the President-General captaining Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council to play in the big league of Nigeria. From all flanks, it is expected that Ntenyin Solomon Etuk will be proficient in scoring hat tricks.

But the goals shall all be recorded for Akwa Ibom State, not Oro, not Ibibio and not Annang. A team is indivisible; Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk is a team player. Akwa Ibom has won, and Akwa Ibom will continue to win. Not Oku Ibom Ibibio, not even Ibibio.

If anything, one is safe to say, that because Akwa Ibom has won, the President-General is synonymous with Oku Ibom Akwa Ibom! Congratulations, captain of Team Akwa Ibom in the big league of Traditional Rulers Council.

AkWA IBOM SUPREME MONARCH HOSTS EMIR OF KANO TODAY

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero today visited his colleague in Akwa Ibom State, the President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers who is the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Nteyin (Dr) Solomon Daniel Etuk at the Traditional Rulers Chambers, Uyo.

The significance of this visit further justify the Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Law 2023 passed by the State House of Assembly, which has elevated our traditional rulers status as their counterpart in other state. The revered traditional rulers status has eluded us in the past as none of our royal father's were accorded equal recognition by Nigerian President or members of the diplomatic corps.

The traditional fraternity will bring about exchange of ideas, bond of unity, and strengthen mutual relationship for political and economic benefits.

Ntenyin Solomon Daniel Etuk
The Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Daniel Etuk, CFR, is 65, and he is being loudly celebrated by ARISE Ambassadors, a support group of Governor Umo Eno's development agenda for Akwa Ibom State.

Interestingly, the Ibibio monarch is the Grand Patron of the AR.ISE Ambassadors that is busy urging the peoples of Akwa Ibom to prioritise unity and peaceful coexistence. This was re-echoed when the pro-Umo Eno group came calling to celebrate the Oku Ibom at 65 in his palace.

Severally, the leadership of Oku Ibom Ibibio has been described as phenomenal and impactful because with him on the throne, Akwa Ibom has a state-of-the โ€“arts Traditional Rulers Council chambers and lodge for royal father's situated along Wellington Bassey Way in Uyo, the state capital.

There is also the ultra modern Asan Ibibio complex at Ikot Oku Ikono, in the state capital, an improved welfare for traditional rulers, certification of traditional rulers and promotion of peace, unity and development among component groupings in the state.

Before now, the Paramount Ruler of Ika Local Govrrnment Area, Edidem Joseph Okosi Ekot (III), has been saying that the Ibibio monarch's reign as the number king of the state Traditional Rulers Council, has heralded more respect and sunshine on the institution in the state.

Ekot was speaking during the commissioning of the Asan Ibibio, saying the Oku Ibom has worked harmoniously with former Governor Udom Emmanuel to bring such to enhance the welfare and duties of traditional rulers in the state.

Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko Local Government Area, Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, JP, on his part says the leadership of the Oku Ibom is inclusive and very thoughtful of the larger interest of the people and the state.

โ€œHis focus is best for the prosperity and good leadership of the state and Nigeria. He takes every decision in collaboration with his council members, with thoughtful consideration and analysis based on long term implications for the state traditional institution and his people.

โ€œNtenyin Etuk has laid a solid foundation upon which others may build as his tenure has had a profound and positive impact in the state. He possesses and exhibit significant and notable humility without boasting his potential ability and capability.

"Oku Ibom displays and expresses selfless love and kindness to his people especially those living in painful hardship and distress by extending helping hands to them and left their lives above the troublesome stress. His tremendous vigorous courage is worthy of emulation. As a servant leader, he lives a life showcasing the true and right example as a guiding shepherd and a loving father.โ€

For the Chairman of Ibibio Elders Forum, Dr Emmanuel Akpanobong, an elder statesman, Ntenyin Etuk has lived up to the expectations as the Oku Ibom Ibibio since his ascension and coronation in 2018.

"I can say authoritatively that he is what we had been yearning for over the years. We are now lucky to have a man in the mould of the present Oku Ibom. He is a man of courage, a man of means, a man of self-sufficiency and a self-reliant person.

โ€œI have seen the image of Ifim Ibom Ibibio being elevated by this Oku Ibom. In terms of organisation and leadership vis-ร -vis other people particularly paramount rulers, clan heads and down the line to the villages and so on, I have seen proper coordination."

Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, a socio-cultural group, says the Oku Ibom Ibibio has exuded inspiring leadership qualities that has engendered the growth, unity and progress among socio-cultural groupings in the state.

Last May, the Oku Ibom Ibibio gave out academic lifeline to 100 indigent students of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), to ease their academic pursuit.

The Ntenyin who doubles as the Chancellor of the state varsity, and President General of the state Traditional Rulers Council, made the scholarship scheme public while on an official visit to the university at Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

According to him, the offer covers school fees of 50 indigent students in year one and 50 indigent students in the final year and directed the university management to draw up a list of beneficiaries so that he can commence the sponsorship programme as his own token assistance for students in the school.

Etuk commended the state government for its commitment to the university on the issues of manpower, and provision of infrastructure which have engendered the institution's upliftment as a functional citadel of learning.

He expressed delight at the level of transformation in the institution compared to what it was a few years ago, and commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof Nse Essien and the Governing Council for ensuring steady growth, academic excellence and a peaceful learning environment for the institution.

The progress so far attained, according to him, goes to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of its founding fathers and charge that the rapid advancement in the institution is sustained, pointing out, โ€œyears ago, I was here during the last convocation.

"Comparing that period to date, you have done exceedingly well. The development of the university in terms of infrastructure, accreditation of more academic programmes among others, goes to show that you have moved the school from one point of development to the other.โ€

Adding, he said as the chancellor of the university, he will continue to play his advisory role effectively, so as to ensure that the institution achieves the desired attention and support from necessary quarters that would continue to consolidate it into an enviable institution.

While inspecting some infrastructures and facilities within the main campus of the university, the Oku Ibom emphasized the need for private and corporate bodies to join hands with the state government in building the institution for the benefit of students and education generally.

He enumerated some major areas of intervention that need urgent attention in the school including access roads, construction of more faculty blocks, and hostel facilities, among many others.

Projects visited at the permanent site of the university include a studentsโ€™ hostel under construction and a medical facility project initiated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), but apparently abandoned. Others were Tetfund projects that house the Faculty of Biological Sciences, as well as a magnificently completed gatehouse project at the permanent site of the varsity.

Speaking earlier, Essien, the vice-chancellor of the state university described the visit as a symbolic royal visitation and expressed delight that the chancellor found time within his busy schedules to visit the institution so as to see things by himself.

He explained that as a conventional university with eight faculties, the institution has retained its original science and technology background, with 43 academic programmes being fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

According to the vice-chancellor, both the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), have given accreditation for relevant academic programmes in the institution.

In the entourage of the Oku Ibom were the Paramount Rulers of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Edidem Francis Ekpenyong, that of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene, that of Ikono Local Government Area, Edidem Etim Nana Itang, and Ini's, Edidem

Udoette Idon. Others were clan head and village heads from Nsit Ubium Traditional Rulers Council and the host communities.

Addressing the players of the ARISE Ambassadors, the monarch re-amplified the need for the peoples of Akwa Ibom to refrain from engaging in divisive acts that could hinder the orderly development of the state. While emphasizing the importance of love, he stressed that regardless of ethnic or religious beliefs, Akwa Ibom is one unified entity.

He is advising the peoples of Akwa Ibom to reject actions that promote disunity, since according to him, such actions hinder the development of the state. โ€œWe are all inter-connected; whether you are Ibibio, Annang, or Oron, we are one. I am urging our people to live together, shun destructive politics, and remove barriers. My constant concern is how we can live in peace with one another", the Ibibio monarch said..

On his own life, the Oku Ibom expressed gratitude to God for sustaining him and shaping him into the person he is today. He said he faced rejection in his early life due to difficult circumstances. Today, he is grateful to God for being alive and witnessing such a significant day.

โ€œI was a special child from birth. My mother told me that at some point in my early life, I was rejected because of the circumstances that surrounded us. People thought I will not survive. But I thank God that I am alive to see a day like thisโ€, says the monarch.

The Oku Ibom lavishly expressed his appreciation to the visiting group for celebrating with him on his special day, and charged them to intensify their efforts in promoting and defending the ARISE Agenda of Governor Eno, promising his continued support to enable the group achieve its goals.

Chairman of the group, Rev. Richard Peters, who was accompanied by its Board of Trustees Chair, Ernest Akpan, and other members said the visit was to identify and celebrate with their grand patron on his birthday,

Accordingly, he, through Dr. Iniobong Essien, presented a birthday gift on behalf of the group to Ntenyin Etuk. He assured him that the organisation will continue to pursue its aims and objectives in order to ensure the success of Governor Eno.

To also mark the Oku Ibom birthday, there was an outpouring of goodwill messages from some prominent figures such as the Chairman of Ibom Airport Development Company Limited, Dr. Iniobong Essien, and former Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government, Chris Ekpo. Apart from offering prayers for the well-being of the Oku Ibom, they described him as a man of peace and an exceptional royal father.

The Oku Ibom is however, the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, the home local government of Governor Eno. He was successfully selected on Friday, September 14, 2018 by Ibibio Paramount Rulers to be the monarch of the ethnic group.

That was during the supreme assembly of Ifim Ibom Ibibio at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang.

Edidem Solomon Daniel Etuk succeeded the late Akwa Edidem, Akpabio Udo Ukpa, who joined his ancestors in 2016. Ukpa was the Political Adviser to Dr. Clement Isong, who served as the Governor of the old Cross River State in the Second Republic.
