‎Third-Term Desperation and the Twisted Chant of Ugboju Turn

‎An Examination of Hon. Mike Audu's Role in the Ugboju Assembly Seat Struggle Since 2007

‎The political landscape of Adoka/Ugboju State Constituency has been unsettled and hostile in recent days, this is not because political leaders are moved to respond to the plight of the suffering masses, but primarily because the neglected masses who have endured eight long years of misrepresentation have risen to demand accountability and to question the rationale behind an unpopular attempt to replicate failure for the ugly third-time. The desperate third-term move is viewed by the majority of Ugboju and Adoka people as an affront to their patience and a display of ex excessive guts, given the abysmal performance that characterizes the two terms already spent.

‎There has been agitation and counter-agitation flying all over the Internet regarding whose turn it is between Adoka and Ugboju to produce the next House of Assembly Member (HoA). While this agitation from different groups and personalities is valid, it is pertinent to draw a line between those whose agitation is genuinely centered on fair play and those with hidden motives to mortgage the political landscape of the constituency for self-aggrandizement.

‎An odd scenario that has been stressed and is gaining wide traction regarding the ongoing agitation can be traced to the confrontational manner in which supporters of the current HoA Member have decided to present their claims of "it must be Ugboju's turn." They assert this not out of love for Ugboju District but to further an egocentric third-term ideology that is mired in gross incompetence and misrepresentation.

‎To further this discussion, it is crucial to present a historical foundation which will form the basis for these political demands. Prior to the 2015 general election, when the cry for the marginalization of the people of Ugboju District had become more intense and started gaining commendable support from political leaders across the board, the need to seek an amicable solution through wide-ranging political consultation by Ugboju political leaders, led by Dr. Dickson Akoh, the Oyachaba K'Idoma, became very necessary. Visits were made to Adoka political leaders across political parties, and traditional and community opinion leaders were not left out; even the clergy were involved. The aim of this marathon consultation was singular: Adoka District, which has held onto the HoA seat since 1999, should, out of brotherly fair play, allow Ugboju District to ascend to the seat. It was this diplomatic approach and style that facilitated the rise to power of Hon. John Okloho in 2015, despite all odds and frustrating efforts by some Ugboju sons, particularly Hon. Audu.

‎Having laid the foundation, it is crucial to unearth the detrimental role played by these sudden "Ugboju political agitators" in frustrating every effort by Ugboju sons to ascend to the HoA seat. To avoid an exhausting read, I will focus my discussion on the period from 2007 to 2015.

‎In 2007, when Hon. James Adalichi contested the HoA seat with strong support from Hon. Sunday Ikpe (Sunday KK), may his soul rest in peace, the incumbent HoA member, together with some foot soldiers of the PDP at the time, did the dirty work for Austin Awodi in Ugboju, allowing him to secure his second term. At that time, I was the interim National President of the Ugboju Students Association and had been engaging in efforts for Ugboju District to produce the HoA Member. Barr. Oscar Agbo, of blessed memory, was one of the loudest voices for Ugboju's emancipation at the time. To this clique of sellouts, politics is transactional; hence, the highest bidder takes the day. Hon. Adalichi lost out as Ugboju groaned under marginalization while the selfish Ugboju sellouts were in a jubilant mood. The same scenario played out in 2011, leaving Ugboju in a continuous political quagmire.

‎The most recent of the anti Ugboju political outing by the incumbent HoA Member was in 2015. After Hon. Okloho clinched the APC ticket, it became clear that Ugboju has gotten another chance to break the sixteen long years political jinx. Ugboju sons and daughters across political divides took up the challenge to ensure an Ugboju son wins the election, the agitation at that time was devoid of any acrimony, it was a challenge and an opportunity that must be converted to success. This onerous support saw many of Ugboju sons and daughters traveling from far and near to monitor the process, which would later turn out to be victorious.

‎Many believed that, while Dr. Akoh championed the Okloho cause, the victory came as a result of the collective efforts of all and sundry. While all these strategic efforts were ongoing, the incumbent HoA ymember was busy leading the campaign for Hon. Joshua Ogbole to return to the state HoA, thereby widening the gap of non-Ugboju HoA members for twenty long years, should Hon. Okloho never win.

‎It is crucial to note that Hon. Ogbole, together with the incumbent HoA Member, didn't stop the fight after Hon. Okloho's electoral victory at the polls. They committed to a marathon electoral struggle, from the election tribunal until they exhausted all the legal processes that ended at the appeal court.

‎The belief among these sudden Ugboju political agitators was premised on a demeaning and provocative assertion that "Ugboju is not ready for the HoA seat yet." In 2015 and after sixteen years, Ugboju is still not ready? Does this in any way suggest that Ugboju's readiness for the political seat should be tied to when the current HoA Member is ready to contest for the same seat? It is shocking that someone who should be apologetic for his past stance against Ugboju District is the one who appears to be the loudest in trying to play the victim card.

‎Now, to focus on the erroneous agitation of "it must be Ugboju's turn" by supporters of the incumbent HoA Member, certain critical questions are begging for answers: As of 2015, when he led the fight against the Ugboju son, was there any political agreement between him and the Adoka HoA Member that he would hand over power to an Ugboju HoA Member, probably him after Adoka completes twenty years in office? By insisting now that the zoning favors Ugboju and that Ugboju must complete its term, does this in any way suggest that Adoka and Ugboju will be observing a sixteen-year zoning formula?

‎As it is now, Adoka stances a better chance to make any demand for power shift than supporters of the incumbent. And even if thorough zoning arrangement is to be considered if the HoA seat is zoned to Ugboju in 2027 for instance, the law of natural fairness will favour Ugboju-Otaje when micro-zoned.

‎I have looked critically at the political outings of aspirants like Hon. John Ojila of the ADC and Hon. Francis Abutu of the PDP, both of Ugboju extraction, and discovered that they anchored their campaigns on appealing to the conscience of the electorate and their capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the constituency, rather than on any mediocre belief of "my turn."

‎After the failed endorsement macabre dance, it is clear that the Benue State APC has set the rules and prepared the ground for all aspirants to test their popularity at the primary. While this is ongoing, we have seen the enormous developmental efforts achieved by Hon. Philip Onyilo, a councilor representing Adoka-Icho, who has barely spent two years in office. To many, his few years of developmental antecedents position him for a strong fight at the APC primary.

‎What is at stake should be who can provide effective representation to the people of Adoka/Ugboju Constituency. Personal capacity to deliver good governance should be key in our consideration of whom we should vote for next as the incumbent HoA exits that office on May 29th, 2027.

Ugboju to Host Maiden All-Political Parties Summit, Inaugurates Steering Committee

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, stakeholders from across the political divide in Ugboju District have converged in Ogoli-Ugboju to forge a united front aimed at strengthening the District’s political relevance and accelerating its development.

The inter-party gathering, held during the Yuletide, was convened by the Oyachaba K’Idoma, Dr. Dickson Akoh, who underscored the imperative of political unity in Ugboju as a prerequisite for attracting meaningful democratic dividends. According to him, only a cohesive and inclusive political approach can guarantee sustainable development for the District.

Dr. Akoh further emphasized the need for a rancour-free and violence-free political season in 2027, urging political actors to eschew violence and embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to community development of Ugboju Land. He noted that political engagement must be anchored on love for one another and the collective progress of Ugboju communities.

In her remarks, the Benue State PDP Women Leader, Hon. Alice Albert, called on Ugboju elites to awaken from political apathy and take greater interest in the district’s political advancement. She observed that despite being the second-largest District in the Idoma Kingdom after Edumoga, Ugboju remains politically disadvantaged in several respects. Hon. Albert commended Dr. Akoh and other leaders who have consistently championed the District’s cause, pledged her full support for the initiative, and expressed optimism that the summit would produce a shared development agenda. Also lending his voice, Chief Narth Ugbor, representing the Member, Adoka/Ugboju State Constituency, Hon. Michael Audu, highlighted peace and unity as critical drivers of lasting growth and development. He affirmed strong support for the summit, describing it as a platform that would foster a peaceful electioneering process in the District.

The Obande K’Ugboju, represented by the Ward Head of Ugboju Icho, Chief Owoicho Amanyi, stated that the traditional institution had assessed public sentiment and found overwhelming support for the proposed Submit. He urged political office holders to place Ugboju’s collective interest above personal or egocentric considerations.

At the event, a Local Organising (Steering-Planning) Committee was nominated and inaugurated to coordinate the First Ugboju All-Political Parties Summit. The committee members are:

PEACE CORPS OF NIGERIA MEETS SGF, PLEDGES TOTAL SUPPORT TO PRESIDENT TINUBU

The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in his administration’s efforts to combat insecurity and advance national development.

This pledge was made on Friday, August 29, 2025, when the National Commandant of the Corps, Dr. Dickson Akoh, led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. (Dr.) George Akume, CON.

In his remarks, Dr. Akoh commended President Tinubu for demonstrating genuine commitment to the security and welfare of Nigerians within the first two years of his administration. He stressed that ensuring peace and stability requires collective effort, with all stakeholders contributing to the protection of lives and property.

“We have witnessed the President’s tireless efforts in strengthening security and empowering young people. As SGF, your dedication to quality service has been remarkable, and in solidarity with your office, we are here to reaffirm our total support for this administration,” Dr. Akoh stated.

He further assured the Federal Government that the Corps will strictly operate within the framework of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and will mobilize its vast structure across the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his response, the SGF lauded the National Commandant and his team for aligning with the vision of the Tinubu administration. He pledged to personally convey their message of solidarity and commitment to the President.

The highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the MoU by Dr. Akoh to the SGF. The document, signed by the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, on behalf of the Federal Government, and by Dr. Akoh on behalf of the PCN, formally recognizes the Corps’ activities nationwide. This milestone represents the first time in the organization’s 30-year history that such formal recognition has been achieved, as past administrations had failed to conclude the process.

The MoU provides for nationwide implementation of PCN’s programmes, while also establishing collaboration with the Federal Government in delivering humanitarian and development services, with a strong focus on youth empowerment and securing educational institutions against external threats.

Members of the delegation included: Deputy National Commandant (Logistics & Supply), Ugochi B. Ikwue; Assistant National Commandant (Administration), Amadi Gloria; Assistant National Commandant (Research & Planning), Alex U. Owoicho; Assistant National Commandant (Personnel & Records), Helen Ameh; Assistant National Legal Services Officer, Omolola Olasimoju; and Deputy Provost Marshal, Tina Useni.

PUTTING THE NARRATIVE STRAIGHT OVER POLICE ILLEGAL INVASION OF PEACE CORPS OF NIGERIA'S HEADQUARTERS AND THE UNLAWFUL ARREST OF DR DICKSON AKOH AND OTHERS

For the sake of clarity and to avoid possible misrepresentation of facts surrounding the tenancy of the property under contention in Jabi, Abuja. It is pertinent to come out straight to state the lingering forth and back struggles that has characterised the said property in the proceeding years.

The landlord has often deviced crooked ways, (sometimes, using the security agencies and at other point approaching the Court to get hand twisted Order) to eject the organization out of the property even before expiration of its rent.

Peace Corps of Nigeria leased the property located at No. 57 Iya Abubakar Crescent, Jabi from the Landlord's Agent and had since renovated the dilapidated structure to it's present state before commencement of usage as it's Headquarters in 2017 before Police unfortunate sealing of the office for (3) years.

Within the period of police occupation of the said office cm the kangaroo trial of the organization before the Federal High Court, Abuja which the organization later won, frantic efforts was made to have the landlord in court to testify of his ownership of the said property that police wanted the federal government to confiscate but to no avail. He didn't just declined, but remained in hiding.

It was in May, 2023 that the Landlord, First Choice Global Ventures Limited in connivance with the Agent, First Icon Limited surreptitiously sneaked to FCT High Court, Gudu after several similar attempts to secure a Consent Judgement without the knowledge of Peace Corps of Nigeria to forcefully eject Peace Corps from the property even though the rent hasn't expired yet. On the 16th of Feb. 2024, First Choice Global Ventures executed the fraudulent consent judgement obtained through deceit and evicted Peace Corps of Nigeria from the said property.

As a law abiding organisation, Incorporated Trustees of Peace Corps of Nigeria approached same FCT High Court, Gudu presided by Hon. Justice Adamu to set aside the consent judgement. Counsel on behalf of Peace Corps submitted that the Honourable Court has the inherent powers to set aside its own judgement where it is a nullity or where it is obtained by fraud. Having looked at the merit of the case and realised that he was misled into giving the consent judgement where the tenant was wrongly omitted from the proceedings that led to the judgement, he consequently set aside the warrant of possession judgement.
In the words of Hon. Justice Adamu " from the facts and evidence deduced from this case, the Applicant (Peace Corps)who is a sub-lessee of this judgement is a necessary party and was unfairly excluded from the proceedings. In essence, the absence of necessary parties connotes lack of fair hearing. The law is that the failure to join a necessary party is a procedural irregularity which does not affect the competence or jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter".
He further said, "this case which is an ordinary issue of recovery of possession has been inundated with several unnecessary issues in various courts and has clearly deviated from the main issue of tenancy. Accordingly, any of the parties who feels he is entitled to the recovery of premises is free to file for recovery in this Court or any other Court".

Going by the above, the subsisting Court Order grants total right of continuous occupancy of the property to the Peace Corps of Nigeria pending the expiration of its rent. It is unimaginable that the same Landlord that approached the appellate court to appeal the same matter could involve the police in this high illegality.

It is therefore most unfortunate that a civil matter that has been settled by a competent court of law, where any of the parties who feels dissatisfied has the fundamental rights to approach a higher court for appeal, now has the police paid by tax payers money intimating and harassing law abiding citizens in this uncivilised manner.

Most unfortunate was the gestapo style invasion, vandalization and high handed harassment and adoption of the National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dr Dickson Akoh and (15) fifteen others as response to allege complaint file by the landlord before the police. Should Nigeria Police take the law into it's hand in the manner they are doing?

Nigeria is not a Banana Republic where Court judgments are recklessly disobeyed. The IGP should call his men to order to stay off issues that is not within their purview, for the Nigerian youths will not stand aloof while the one who has dedicated the entirety of his life towards championing thier course is been unnecessarily harassed by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

Dr Dickson Akoh Congratulates Rev. Fr Sylvester Onmoke on his appointment as Provost, College of Education, Oju.

The Oyachaba K'Idoma, Dr Dickson Akoh has felicitated with Rev. Fr Sylvester Onmoke on his appointment by Governor Hyacinth Alia as the Provost of College of Education, Oju.

Dr Akoh describes the appointment of Fr Onmoke as Provost of the higher institution as meritorious and well-deserving. According to him, Fr Onmoke's quest for better education is unparallel, this is showed clearly in the drastic transformation that accompanies his priestly vocation in all the places he served.

He urges Fr Onmoke to make good use of this opportunity by transforming the College of Education into a real citadel of learning and a reference point to other higher institutions in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

As a Catholic Priest with high moral standard, Dr Akoh expects the Rector to besides impacting academic knowledge also make significant impacts in shaping the character of his students, which according to him can lead to the eradication of social vices such as cultism, prostitution etcetera that is often associated with many higher institutions in Nigeria.

He commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for the choice of the Rev. Father whom according to him has track records as an academia with overwhelming grassroots educational impacts.

Dr Akoh has no doubt in the academic prowess and competence of Fr Onmoke to take the tertiary institution to a greater heights and so wishes him well in his new assignment.

OYACHABA K'IDOMA DESCRIBES OTUKPO ROBBERY CARNAGE AS WICKED AND RETARDING

Consoles bereaved families and the Idoma Nation over attack

The Oyachaba K'Idoma, Dr. Dickson Akoh has joined other well meaning Nigerians in condemning the dastardly massacre of innocent lives during the robbery incident that engulfed some new generation banks in Otukpo last Friday, 20th October, 2023.

According to him, this is one attack too many that must be nipped in the bud so as to avert any of such occurrences in the future. He recounted how similar incident of bank robbery in Otukpo led to the killing of some Police Officers on duty in Ojali in cold blood some years ago.

He advocated intelligence gathering to be the major panacea to the lingering security lapses that has left the area porous and often at the mercy of men of the underworld. Security men can achieve little if taken unawares in arms combat just as witnessed in this case. Perpetrators of such organized crime must have studied the terrain and the security gaps before striking, he added.

Prof. Akoh calls on Idoma sons and daughters to be united in finding lasting solution to the security challenges in Benue South. According to him, no landmark development can be achieved without the security of lives and properties of the people.

He condemn the cold blood killing of a banker, and Customers, and also some Police Officers, including the Divisional Police Officer of Otukpo who lost their lives in line of duty while combating the criminals. He condole with the families of the bereaved and ask God to console them.

While applauding the prompt responses of the men of the Nigeria Army, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services and the brave Idoma Youth for combating those criminals leading to the death of two of them, Akoh call on the various security Agencies to continue to synergies and not to relent in their efforts untill every one of those criminals are apprehended and punished severely for this crime against the peace loving people of Idoma land.

He calls on the government to lay out programs and activities that are geared towards the meaningful engagement of the Youth in productive ventures so as to take then away from crime.
