FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with grief and deep sense of loss, but in total submission to the will of God Almighty, we announce the passing on to eternal glory of Late Arit M. T. Esenyie Umondak aged 66.

She was a devoted Christian, woman of virtue who was committed to the service of God and humanity.

A memorial service in her honour is is scheduled to hold on Friday, April 14th, 2023 at Secondary Commercial School grounds, Afaha Offiong, Nsit Ibom LGA. While friends night is slated for today Thursday at the deceased compound.

We request you to join us bid our mother, sister, grand mother farewell. Please remember her and loved ones in prayers at this difficult period.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

Easter Rainstorm Leaves Oboetim Ikot Ekong Township in Ruin, Residents Homeless

Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and a time for Christians all over the World to reminisce on the humongous price of love paid by Jesus Christ on the cross some 2000years ago.

While Christians all the World were marking the annual celebration of the Risen Christ, residents of Oboetim Ikot Ekong community were counting their losses.

Like every year, the Easter celebration is marked lot of religious festivity and bonding among Christians but for Mrs Ime Okpon, a widow who lives with her family in the community, their joy was cut abruptly after a heavy windstorm which blew across the community almost killed her grand daughter.

Narrating the unfortunate incident, the widow told our reporter that her grand daughter was hit on the face by a big stick cut by the wind and is receiving treatment at the community's primary health care centre.

Other victims of the Easter rainstorm recounts how their property worth thousands of naira were destroyed by the heavy rain.

An on-the-spot assessment round the community revealed more parts affected by the heavy rainstorm. This reporter saw roofs of houses blown off, farm products were not spared by the natural disaster, walls and fences of houses were either ripped off or caved into the earth.

Some residents of the community were also seen sorting from the ruins and moving what's left of their property out of the houses.

Speaking on the extent of damage done and possibility of rebuilding, the affected residents said the damage is way beyond their financial status and budget.

They also revealed, they have contacted their relatives in neighbouring communities for shelter until they can rebuild or given financial assistance.

However they appealed to the local, State and Federal governments and other emergency response agencies as well as kind hearted individuals to come to their aid.

Special Assistant Protocol, office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. (Engr.) Victor Esenyie has lost his mother, Arit M. T. Esenyie Umondak.

Late Arit M. T. Esenyie Umondak, a devoted Christian of the Apostolic Church, passed on at 66years.

Hon. Esenyie informed the public with e-poster in a page recently.

In his words "...and the count down begins. The Curtain draws. Mom, it's hard to say Goodbye but certainly, I know that you are in a better place...".

Funeral Arrangements are as follows

Sunday, 7th April, 2023, Opening of mourning house at the deceased compound, Afaha Offiong, Nsit Ibom LGA. While Thursday, 13th April, 2023, will be a Friends night at the same venue.

Friday, 14th April, 2023 funeral service to be conducted by the Apostolic Church, Edeobom 1, District, Oboetok Area, Etinan Filed at Secondary Commercial School, Afaha Offiong, Nsit Ibom LGA. Time 10.00 prompt.

Also, the governor's aide who appreciated friends and sympathisers for the show of love so far, noted that all condolence messages, tributes to the family should be channeled to his email - [email protected] on or before Wednesday 6th of April to enable the family include same in the funeral programme.

...Commends FG for distributing kits to 1500 Batch C1 beneficiaries

Barley fifty four days to end of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, a total of one thousand five hundred beneficiaries across the Six States of the South South Geo political zone have received starter packs from the federal government at the end of their three-month training on different skills.

At the colourful closing ceremony held at Bible College, Ukpong Abak on Wednesday, April 5th, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said 1500 beneficiaries were trained out of 3,300 who reported to different training camps.

Farouq, who was represented by the Akwa Ibom State Focal Person, Dr. Godwin Akpan said NSIP is reformative and the largest social protection programmes in Africa aimed at improving the lives of the poor and most vulnerable in the country.

Akpan further informed that the programme has also develop competencies which will increase production and add to the overall growth of the society, hinted that today marks the end of the N-Knowledge Expansion Training Programme.

"You will confirm by now that N-Knowledge is focused on equipping young Nigerians with relevant skills and certification to become competent workers, innovators and entrepreneurs, prepared for both the domestic and global digital job market."

Akpan appealed to the incoming administration to sustain the Npower programme for the overall benefits of masses.

The closing ceremony had in attendance Mr. Enobong Okon, South South contact person, Mrs. Edith Adjari South South training manager, Mr. Samuel Okon, Registrar of the college who represents the provost amongst other dignitaries.

GOV EMMANUEL’S AIDES CELEBRATE PASTOR UMO ENO’S EMERGENCE AS AKWA IBOM GOV- ELECT

The leadership and members of the College of Personal Aides to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, have congratulated the Governor - Elect, Pastor Umo Eno on his victory at the polls, saying it signifies the advent of the Golden Era.

A statement signed by the publicity secretary of the College, Aniekeme Finbarr, describes the victory as an endorsement of the positive impacts witnessed under the current government of their boss, Mr Udom Emmanuel and the admirable disposition of Pastor Umo Eno even in the face of provocative outbursts from different opposition elements.

She is NsikakAbasi N. Orok who takes over from Mrs. Mandu Umoren, who retired recently after years of meritorious service.

A consummate and thorough- bred Civil Servant, Mrs. Orok is expected to utilize her wealth of experience as a career Civil Servant in the discharge of her responsibilities as the Chief Administrative and Accounting Officer of the House. Her appointment takes immediate effect.

REMARKS OF PASTOR UMO ENO, GOVERNOR-ELECT, AKWA IBOM STATE, DURING THE PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE OF RETURN, INEC OFFICE, UDO UDOMA AVENUE, UYO, THURSDAY 3OTH MARCH, 2023.

PROTOCOL

1.Let me thank most sincerely, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe and his great team, Mrs. May Agbamuche- Mbu, the Honourable National Commissioner, of the Commission , South South zone, for their kind invitation for me to receive this Certificate of Return, which symbolizes the last of the levels of recognition of my overwhelming victory at the March 18th, 2023 Gubernatorial elections.

2.Let me again dedicate this victory and the Certificate of Return, to God Almighty and the good people of Akwa Ibom State, for deciding to A.R.I.S.E. with our vision, and electing in the process to embrace peace, development, unity, Christ-centric leadership and a governance philosophy that puts accent on humility and the embrace of our common humanity.

3. Let me again thank most profusely my Political Father, His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel for seeing, as I always say, what others may not have seen in me; his dear wife, and First Lady, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Udom Emmanuel, who was our Campaigner-in Chief, my dear wife and Incoming First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno, our Deputy Governor- Elect, Distinguished Senator Akon Eyakenyi , my wonderful children and their spouses, my siblings and grand-children for their prayer support, faith and trust in my capacity to lead this State. I remain eternally grateful to our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their choice in me, as the Gubernatorial Standard-bearer, our able and indefatigable Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan and the State Working Committee of the Party, the numerous Support Groups, who went out to preach the gospel of continuity based on our A.R.I.S.E. Agenda, our Fathers in Faith and the entire Evangelical Community in the State, our numerous stakeholders and Elder statesmen such as former Governor , Obong ( Arc) Victor Attah, the Iroko of AKwa Ibom politics, Chief Michael Afangideh, Distinguished Senator Effiong Bob, among others, our Campaign Director-General, H.E., Ambassador Assam Assam, SAN and the Campaign Council, various Directorates, the Youth, Women, Elders etc. You believed, your toiled, you sacrificed and the moment for the pursuit of happiness is here.

4. Let me again use this opportunity to invite my brothers who, also, aspired and contested for the same position that it has pleased God to entrust me with today, to join me in this great journey of deepening the continued peace and progress of our dear State. As I said in my Acceptance Speech, we all ran a good race, but in any contest, a winner must emerge and it has pleased God to make me the winner. I am committed to remaining magnanimous in victory and be a Governor for all Akwaibomites irrespective of their political affiliations.

5. Permit me to thank the other contestants who ran with me, and who have since visited to congratulate me and promised to work with me in furtherance of our developmental agenda as enshrined in our A.R.I.S.E. Agenda.

6. Let me thank most especially the Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC,) Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Ubong Emmanuel who was also a gubernatorial candidate for ADP and the entire leadership of the organization for their ringing endorsement of our victory and again reaffirming that the March 18th, 2023 election was free, fair, credible and represented the expressed will of our dear people.

7. Let me again reemphasize the need for us to eschew hatred based on our political differences. There is too much polarization along political lines in this State. We must not allow politics to poison the well of our unity. We must continue to celebrate and deepen our bonds and cords of brotherhood, our deeply rooted homogenous beliefs, shared values and ethos and shy away from hatred, anger, animosity and animus towards one another based purely on political differences.

8.Political campaigns are over; it’s time to heal the land and further move the needle of development of our State collectively, in one accord and with unbroken spirit of kindreship. That is the spirit I will bring to the administration of this State, so help me God.

Akwa Ibom Born Etoro Shines at CBN Junior Tennis Championship
..writes the name of the State in the annals of history

Akwa Ibom born Etoro Bassey has written her name and that of the State in the annals of history following her excellent performance at the just concluded grand finale of the Central Bank of Nigeria Junior Tennis Championship held over the weekend in Lagos.

Etoro who played in the U-16 category at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos squashed Eunice Irolumun of Benue state in the girls category to a landslide 9-5 win.

Like Serena Williams, Etoro won the heart of spectators at the tournament to emerge the tournament most improved player in the girls category.

Following her outstanding performance, Etoro was handed a merited award/trophy by the CBN Ag Director, Corporate Communications Department, Dr. Isa Abdulmumuni who represented the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele at the event.

Prior to her latest feat, Etoro, a trainee with the Geuf Tennis Academy GTA Asuna Akwa Ibom State, represented Nigeria in Togo where she blazed the trail and flew the country's flag high to the admiration of scouters, spectators and sport stakeholders.

Etoro's performance at the game according to her coach, Mr Ubong has slot her name into the American NCSA Athletic Recruiting Website (College Spots athletic recruiting networks) as well as open her to potential opportunities in the US.

The proud coach hinted that his mailbox has been bamboozled with mails from International agencies not limited to the University of Chicago IL, Marian university Wisconsin, Johnson University Tennessee - a Christian University, Johnson & Wales University, Charlotte regarding recruitment of Etoro into their teams.

Also the coach who expressed confidence in the ability of Etoro to become the next Serena Williams of Akwa Ibom State stated that the indication of interest from international agencies was not enough. He howeverbcalled for support from government at all levels, companies, institutions and agencies as well as philanthropists and faith based institutions to invest in her.

The coach noted that an investment in Etoro will further encourage and support her to becoming a great asset to her community and Akwa Ibom State at large.

Also, Etoro was not the only star who represented the State at the tournament. Also, clinching a trophy was Wisdom Effiong who emerged second place winner at the U-12 boys category after failing to Chidubem at the Lord Rumen's Centre Court in a 9-3 game.

GTA'S Favour James feat who was moved to play girls U-14, category is also worthy of commendation.

She fought to defeat one of her opponent 6 - 3 in a single set match.

Geuf Tennis Academy, GTA Asuna Akwa Ibom State, the Academy where Etoro, Wisdom and Favour are trained is now in partnership with Ibom Air and Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort.

URban Tragedy In a dramatic turn of events, an unidentified man reportedly turned into a cow after he allegedly had sex with a married woman. In a viral video on social media, the man is seen sitting on the ground, sobbing. His legs had turned into cow trotters and he had grown a tail. The man was crying like a human being, but in between the sobs, he makes mooing sounds like a cow. As he moos, residents in the area were in utter shock and bemusement, taking videos of the strange and dramatic incident. The strange incident reportedly happened in Zimbabwe.
