A renowned social governance advocate, Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok has officially joined one of Nigeria's leading political parties, African Democratic Congress, ADC, as the country is gearing towards the 2023 general elections.
Nya-Etok, who was received into the party yesterday, by the national chairman of ADC, High Chief Ralph Nwosu, was issued a membership card in a well-attended ceremony held at the party's state secretariat, No. 6 Bassey Esau Street, Uyo.
Presenting Nya-Etok to the national officers of ADC, the state chairman of the party, Mr. Utip Etiebet described his as a 'big catch' whose political ideology is in line with the objectives of ADC, adding that Nya-Etok is a refined politician who has left indelible mark in the country.
Etiebet revealed that Nya-Etok's coming into the party is only the beginning of the mass exodus of Akwa Ibom people who will be joining the party in no distant time, adding that thr people are fed up with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC.
"For now, ADC does not even have a councillor in Akwa Ibom, but I want to assure you that in less than 24 months, we will call you again to come and witness the swearing-in of some House of Assembly members.
"I should also tell you that from the outcome of the general election in 2023, there will be need for us to go to the national assembly in June so that we can accompany our candidates that will be sworn-in.
"Sir, for governorship, if I say it, it will look as if I'm boasting but I can assure that at the state level here, come May 29, 2023, I am going to put you in the best hotel in Akwa Ibom when you come to witness the swearing-in of the governor which we will produce".
Etiebet noted that the process of actualizing the party's 2023 objectives is beginning with the reception of Nya-Etok whom he revealed has shown the willingness to partner with the party at all fronts in order to the party's objectives further.
"Ezekiel Nya-Etok, an architect, the man the masses call A1, met us some weeks ago and told us that he will want to come and associate with us openly. So the major reason why we are here today is to identify with someone who is willing to identify with our party", Etiebet added while presenting the membership card of ADC to Arc. Nya-Etok.
Receiving Nya-Etok on behalf of the national leadership of the party, the national chairman, Chief Nwosu commended Arc. Nya-Etok for choosing the political party that has the best interest of the people, adding that other parties have failed.
Nwosu noted that ADC is emerging as the credible alternative for Nigeria and that Akwa Ibom cannot be left behind, adding that as a party that values credibility, transparency and accountability, ADC is gaining the trust and support of Nigerians.
The political bigwig further lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress for plunging the nation into untold hardship, suffering, bloodshed, insecurity and corruption, adding that the elites who are still defecting to APC despite its failures, do not have the interest of their people at heart.
"Anybody who says they are not disturbed by what is happening in the country today is lying. We have seen APC in their poorest of form. We have seen the way the administration is governing. It disturbs me that people from Akwa Ibom, people from Enugu, people Anambra are leaving other parties to the party that is causing all Nigerians the greatest pains.
"Same party, under their rule, the bloodshed is beyond what we had during the civil war and some of your elites in Akwa Ibom, some of the elites in South South, some of the elites in South East, elites in South West, elites in North Central, elites in North West, are entering the same party.
"Under 6 years of democratic rule, we have seen people being slaughtered. There is no state in Nigeria that is not feeling the effect of their misrule, yet you see people who call themselves patriots still joining the same party", he said.
Nwosu boasted that with the recent online poll conducted by an independent youth body where ADC had the highest votes from Nigerians as the most preferred political party ahead of 2023, it was evident that the party will be taking over the country.
"ADC is the only party that has a clear DNA. DNA of discipline and responsibility, radical transparency and we are imbibing these values so that it will be easy for us when we get to the government house, when we get to the villa".
In his remarks, Arc. Nya-Etok thanked the party for the overwhelming support and warm welcome accorded him, noting that he chose ADC because the party's ideals perfectly align with his political ideologies.
The 2023 governorship hopeful noted that the current system of governance from the country to the state is one that promotes the begging culture among the citizens because it deliberately deprives the citizens of meaningful source of livelihood.
Nya-Etok revealed that as one who has been blessed by God, he came into politics to break the dependency syndrome by providing the right governance, assuring that come 2023, he will be elected as the governor of Akwa Ibom.
"I have been laughed at before, they can as well laugh again. I am telling you that in 2023, by the grace of God, I am going to be the governor of this state. I am not just talking because I don't talk anyhow and I can tell you how it's going to happen", he said.
Other national officers of the party also spoke at the event highlighting the party's chances in the 2023 general elections. Other highpoints of the event were the inauguration of the party's state secretariat by the national chairman and a media parley at Novone Garden Estate, Uyo.
