Reposted from EFFC claims ignorance over raid on Conference Hotel, Gbenga Daniel Disagrees

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has claimed that they are unaware of a raid carried out at an Abeokuta hotel, Conference Hotel, which belongs to a former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel.

The hotel authorities had claimed that personnel of the agency raided the hotel in search of alleged internet fraudsters, popularly known as “Yahoo boys”.

However, when our Correspondent contacted the Public Relations Officers of both Ibadan and Lagos offices of the EFCC, they denied knowledge of the alleged invasion.

The PRO of the EFCC, Ibadan office, Tokunbo Odebiyi, simply said, “I have no information about the operation. I’m not aware of any invasion of any hotel in Abeokuta.”

Also, his counterpart in Lagos, Ayo Oyewole, said he was not aware of the raid.

Meanwhile, contrary to the statements of the anti-graft agency spokespersons, the media office of Gbenga Daniel said the anti-graft agency raided the hotel around 2:00 am on Sunday.

The statement read partly, “Some unknown gunmen believed to be acting at the behest of one of the anti-graft agencies stormed the premises of the hotel facility in Abeokuta in search of an unknown ‘yahoo boy’. Unnecessary shots were fired and our innocent guests were scared.

“Thankfully, our various security agencies were able to restore law and order and no life was lost. We thank all our customers for their patience and understanding and reassure all and the general public of their safety at all times in all our facilities.”

ABDUL SAMAD RABIU’S ASR AFRICA BOOSTS OGUN HEALTH SYSTEM WITH 2.5BIL GRANT FOR ASR MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) – brainchild of Industrialist, philanthropist and founder of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has awarded Ogun State Government a N2.5billion Naira ASR Africa Tertiary Healthcare Systems Support grant towards the construction of a Mother & Child Hospital at the state-owned Olabisi Onabanjo University. This N2.5billion grant, which was presented to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at a ceremony in Abeokuta, was drawn from the $100million annual ASR Africa Fund for Social Development and Renewal.
Presenting the award letter for the “ASR Africa Mother & Child Hospital” to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ubon Udoh, Managing Director, ASR Africa Initiative said the grant was part of efforts by Abdul Samad Rabiu, the founder and Executive Chairman of BUA Group to give back to Nigeria and the Africa continent. Udoh added that the state-focused Tertiary Healthcare Systems Support Grant was awarded to Ogun State and 3 others in 2021 in recognition of their current efforts in delivering quality healthcare services and infrastructure within those states.
According to Udoh, “The grant is part of efforts of the Chairman of the BUA Group Abdul Samad Rabiu to give back to the African Continent and make a lasting impact in sustainable development as a means of uplifting and restoring the dignity and lives of Africans. “We believe that upon completion, the N2.5billion ASR Africa Maternal & Child Hospital will boost the tertiary healthcare delivery system, train adequate personnel, and drastically reduce maternal and child mortality rates in Ogun state.”, he added.
Reacting, Governor Dapo Abiodun thanked the ASR Africa Initiative and its founder Abdul Samad Rabiu for their continuous support to the people of Ogun State and noted that his government remains focused on improving the socio-economic well-being of citizens.

Efficient Energy: BUA Signs Another 70mw Gas Power Plant Contract With Finnish Company, Wartsila Oy For Its Cement Line.
Abdul Samad Rabiu, Founder/Executive Chairman, BUA Group and the Deputy Minister for International Trade for Finland, Ms. Nina Vaskunlahti when the Deputy Minister paid a courtesy call on the Chairman at the BUA Regional Office in Abuja.
BUA has signed yet another agreement with Wartsila OY of Finland for the construction of a 70megawatts dual-fuel power plant for its BUA Cement Obu Line 3 project in Edo State, Southern Nigeria. This agreement was signed between both companies at a ceremony in Abuja presided over by the Deputy Minister for International Trade for Finland, Ms. Nina Vaskunlahti. This gas power plant will also be the third power plant to be commissioned by BUA from Wartsila as BUA Cement seeks to increase its total production capacity across all its locations to 17million metric tonnes by 2023.


Speaking at the signing ceremony, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA, who signed on behalf of the cement producer said that BUA was committed to utilizing cleaner, more efficient energy sources for its cement operations rather than relying on coal or heavy fuels. According to Rabiu, the 70MW gas-powered plant ordered by BUA for its Obu Line 3 cement plant will ensure that the company remains very efficient in its energy utilization in the cement production process.

“Currently, we have phased out the use of coal across our factories and are shifting to gas powered plants. As we ramp up our capacity, there is need to complement it with efficient power supply and Wartsila’s technology has been found to be durable and uniquely aligned with our vision for more efficient power generation at all our production locations,” Rabiu added.

Gov. Nasir El- Rufai of Kaduna State has come under fire for begging Nigerians not to vote for the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP in 2023, claiming that PDP, if voted into power will take the country backwards.

El-rufai who made the remarks in Kaduna further accused PDP senators from the state of stalling development in the state, urging Nigerians to avoid PDP in 2023 so as not to be taken back to the “problems of yesterday”.

OAU student death: NANS fumes, says Hilton hotel owner enjoys preferential treat

The owner of Hiltons Hotels and Resorts, Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, is enjoying preferential treatment in the custody of the Osun State Police Command, the National Association of Nigerian Students has alleged.

The apex students’ association in the country said a recent audio recording released by Adedoyin while in police net showed that he is being accorded luxury.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that in the audio recording, Adedoyin denied complicity in the death of a Masters’ student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, who died in controversial circumstances in his hotel and was buried in a shallow grave without the knowledge of his family or the police.

An autopsy into the cause of the death of Adegoke is being expected as of press time.

In a statement on Tuesday, NANS sounded “a note of warning to everyone involved in the investigation that NANS will stop at nothing to expose and fight anyone irrespective of how highly placed contemplating to pervert the cause of investigation or justice.”

The statement signed by NANS President, Sunday Asefon, was titled, ‘Timothy Adegoke murder: NANS calls for transparency and justice, irrespective of how highly placed are the perpetrators’.

Manchester United in talks with Ernesto Valverde over interim manager’s job

Manchester United have spoken to Ernesto Valverde regarding becoming their interim manager. The 57-year-old was Barcelona’s manager from May 2017 until January 2020, winning La Liga twice and a Copa del Rey, and is out of work.

It is understood Valverde has discussed with John Murtough, United’s football director, taking over on a temporary basis, with the club conscious that having worked with Lionel Messi at Barcelona he would be at ease managing Cristiano Ronaldo. Valverde has started sounding out potential players he could add to strengthen the squad should he be appointed.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær was sacked on Sunday and Michael Carrick appointed as the caretaker on a match-to-match basis, the club’s stated plan being to acquire an interim manager before making a permanent appointment in the close season. Mauricio Pochettino, the current favourite, failed to confirm he would see out his Paris Saint-Germain contract, which runs until summer 2023, when asked on Tuesday.

Valverde is understood to be one of five candidates on the list for the interim role and United are ready to abandon that strategy if they can get Pochettino from Paris Saint-Germain now. Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers is another manager regarded by United as being of the requisite calibre for the permanent job.

Valverde, who has managed at six clubs since 2002, was asked in an interview for the Observer in June about one day potentially working in England. “Could be,” the Spaniard said. “I wouldn’t mind trying it. On November 23, 2021, nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards were announced, and Nigerian stars: Wizkid, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti and Made Kuti all got nominations in the Global Music Album and Global Music Performance categories.

Wizkid's Made In Lagos (Deluxe)' and Legacy+ by Femi Kuti and Made Kuti got nominations in the Best Global Music Album, while Best Global Music Performance gave Wizkid another nod for 'Essence,' and Burna Boy for 'Do Yourself' by Angelique Kidjo.

Other Africans like Angelique Kidjo got two Grammy nods: one alongside Burna Boy in the Best Global Music Performance and another for Mother Nature, her 2021 album. SCNSLY by Black Coffee also got a nod for Best Dance Album.

An award-winning Swedish rapper has died at the age of 19 after being shot in the street in a suspected gang-related attack.

Einar, whose real name was Nils Gronberg, was reportedly shot in the head and chest, in the suburb of Hammarby Sjostad, in Stockholm, on Thursday.

Mohamed Salah says he wants to spend the rest of his career with Liverpool.

The 29-year-old Egypt forward has scored 137 goals in 214 games for the Reds since a £34m move from Roma in 2017, including 12 goals this season.

His current Liverpool deal runs out at the end of next season.

"It doesn't depend on me, but if you asked me I would love to stay until the last day of my football [career]. It's not in my hands, it depends on what the club wants," Salah told Sky Sports.

He added: "At the moment I can't see myself ever playing against Liverpool. It's hard, I don't want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad."

Salah started his career with Al Mokawloon in his homeland and had spells at Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma before joining the Reds.

Liverpool go to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday with Salah looking to score in a 10th consecutive game.

TB Joshua wife speaks on SCOAN Crisis

When on Saturday June 5, 2021, Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua, the founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) and one of Africas most popular televangelists breathed his last, the news came as a rude shock to millions of his followers across the globe.

The notable spiritual leader fondly called TB Joshua was said to have walked out of a Saturday night service while preaching, to take a little rest but did not return to continue. Five months after the demise of the Man in the Synagogue, things have not remained the same as a leadership tussle erupted between his erstwhile top aides and immediate family.

Saturday Sun learnt that some top prophets of the church had expected that the mantle of leadership would be handed over to Prophet Racine Bousso, a Senegalese and deputy to the late TB Joshua.

Bousso, alongside Prophets Joseph David from Nigeria and Christopher Dennis Tonge from the United Kingdom, mostly stood in for TB Joshua on days he was not available. These powerful and influential aides had allegedly staged a spiritual coup d’etat and temporarily seized power, making themselves heirs to the estates of the renowned Prophet against the legitimate interests of his widow, Evelyn and her three children – Sarah, Promise and Heart.

While in the saddle, a series of allegations were made against the top aides. Chiefly, the Prayer Mountain of the church at Agodo Egbe designed only for prayers was said to have been gradually turned into a haven for worldly lifestyle – a thing that was not in practice when TB Joshua was alive.

The aides were also alleged to have taken over the church’s strong room and looted the vault with reckless abandon. Also, none of TB Joshua’s family members was privy to all monies collected from partners all over the world during and after his burial. The aides were equally alleged to have opened another global network account without the church or Joshuas family’s knowledge.
