Sport made me and I have no reason not to give back - MD/CEO New year Mega Lottery

Jide Bodunde

MD/CEO of New Year Mega Lottery Limited and tittle sponsor of the Nation- wide League One (NLO), Chief Sunday Adeleye has stated the reason why NewYear Mega Lottery has picked up the tittle sponsorship of the Third tier league for the next 4 years.

He made this statement while speaking with newsmen at the opening ceremony of the NLO24 New Year Mega Lottery at the Ahmadu Bello stadium, Kaduna.

"I've been all around sport and the language i understand is giving back to people and the youth. I championed that area where I believe I should give back to Nigerian youth because sport made me who I am today.

The former owner of Dynamic Sporting Solutions FC (DSS) further stated that the youths can be like him and even surpass his achievements through sport. "If the youth follow my footsteps and footprints and advise, they can even do better than me. Giving back is not something I have to think or prepare about, it's something I have to do and I've been doing that".

When asked if the initial four year deal is renewable, he said, "It's a marriage we just got into and we are looking forward to bettering the marriage. New Year Mega Lottery is not just looking at football but ahtletics and other sports because sport development is about funding and support to make it strive and it's one sector other corporate bodies are not looking at but we are taking advantage of that because we are born into sport and will continue to do it better in the area of development".

Kaduna United lost 0-2 to Yoca Crocodiles in the opening fixture of the NLO24 New Year Mega Lottery.

Lagos State Football Association Chairman, Hajji Liameed Olawale Gafar, has congratulated Manu Garba, on his appointment as the new head coach of the Nigeria U17 national football team, the Golden Eaglets.

Manu Garba's first tenure as Eaglets Manager saw him handling footballers such as Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Francis Uzoho, Chidiebere Nwakali and Musa Muhammed to victory at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup.

According to Hajji Gafar, he believes that this experience makes Manu Garba the ideal candidate to lead the Golden Eaglets to new heights.

The coach who returns for his third stint with the team has been saddled with the responsibility of leading the current crop of players to next month's WAFU B U17 Championship which serves as qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) recently appointed the former Flying Eagles manager as the Golden Eaglets' head coach.

Hajji Gafar harped on the need to make talents discovered at the NFF/NPFL U17 Youth League a priority by the gaffer.

"I would like to congratulate you (Manu Garba) on your appointment as the new head coach of the Golden Eaglets," said Hajji Gafar, NFF/NPFL Youth Development Coordinator (Southwest Zone).

"I strongly believe your rich experience in coaching young talents will propel our development football brand, the Golden Eaglets, to the pedestal we have always desired it to be."

"I urge you to strive for nothing but excellence, be open to constructive criticisms and be your own man.

"The leadership of NFF has set the ball rolling through NPFL before appointing Manu Garba so the screening exercise for players should be a walk in the park.

"I appeal that the new U17 team should be built around NPFL Youth League players across Nigeria.

"The 17 top talents from the Southwest zone include Abiodun Olawoye (Shooting Stars), Oguniran Mujeeb Tomiwa (Shooting Stars), Samad Adekunle (Shooting Stars), Taofeek Afolabi Samad (Shooting Stars), Aribo Faith (Remo Stars), Olasunkanmi Abass (Remo Stars), Adejimi Peter (Remo Stars), Olatunji Olamilekan (Remo Stars) and Olaniyo Precious (Remo Stars)."

Dozie Frank projects lofty heights for Kada BSC

The captain of 2022 Nigeria Beach Soccer champions, Kada BSC's Dozie Frank is hoping his team can reclaim the title at the end of the 2024 season.

After winning the second edition of the NBSL, Kada BSC finished in third place last season.

With this season's Super Four slated to take place in Kaduna State, Frank intends to help his team keep the title at home.

"The team is preparing great despite the poor turn-up as some of our players are not readily available," Frank told www.beachsoccer.ng

"Some play normal football and some play beach soccer. As a result of this, some of them went to other clubs for one reason or the other, but the few of us remaining prepared well ahead of the 2024 beach soccer league.

"I will not say that I am promising the State that we will bring back the cup because even though the Super Finals is taking place in Kaduna State but I just believe that we would do our best. We will do our best to make sure that the cup remains in Kaduna State so that they will see what the boys are doing and what they are investing in. I believe that by His grace we would win the trophy."

The winner of the top goal scorer in the past two seasons, Frank believes it won't be an easy task to win the top goal scorer prize but will work towards a consecutive triple record while expressing the leek of development of beach soccer in the country.

"I will not say that I will retain the highest goal scorer prize again but I would do my best to retain it because I have been the top goal scorer for the last two seasons." He stated. "I know this season won't be an easy one because all eyes are on Kada and not even Kebbi Fishers, the defending champions because they believe we have the team and mind to deliver at any time but by His grace, I am going to retain it again by the special grace of God.

"I am very happy with the rate of beach soccer growth. We have seen a lot of talented boys and players coming out from different States and showing their skills because beach soccer is not just a game but a game of entertainment. You catch fun on it. Beach soccer in Nigeria, I can see and give kudos to the organisers for their marvelous work.

"I just believe that they should still put in more effort because I believe they will not like the league to just remain like this. They would like it to go higher.

"Last year we have fewer teams, this year we have up to eight teams with a new team, Jigawa Golden Stars. This season is not going to be easy. I particularly give kudos to the Nigeria Beach Soccer Association (NBSA) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). I hope they put in more effort to make the game of beach soccer become even better than what is now." He concluded.

Mavlon raced to an early lead with brilliant finish from Emmanuel Stephen before half time.

A thunderbolt strike from Egbeduokun Samson sailed past former Flying Eagles goalie Oremade Olawale to double the lead for Mavlon.

The defending champions halved the deficit two minutes afterwards with Ibrahim Fuad getting to the end of a team build up initiated by Busayo Lemon.

Ibrahim Fuad completed the comeback with his second of the game with nine minutes left on the clock.

The result saw Smart City end Group A as winners with five points from three games while Mavlon recorded two points.

In the second match of the day, 36 Lion and Dino Sporting Club cancelled each other out with a drab goalless draw.

The encounter produced less sparkling moments that could give either side the chance to secure victory but couldn't make it count.

The encounter between The Charlesann and Ikorodu City ended 2-2 with the former finishing the match with 10 men.

It didn't take Ikorodu much time to find the equalizer with Onyeme Emmanuel getting his second of the match.

The enterprising striker went close to sealing the victory for the Oga Boys with two minutes to end the match but was denied by smart goalkeeping of Chigozie Joseph.

The result saw Charlesann finishing the group with five points but they were edged to first place by Smart City on goal difference.

The last encounter for the day and also for the group ended 2-1 in favour of Broad City against Imperial FC.
