An agent and a French football expert, Oscar Damiani, has revealed that Victor Osimhen’s future destination could be limited to just one club.

He believes that Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are among the top contenders for the player’s signature.

Osimhen is said to have attracted the attention of Premier League sides including Chelsea and Arsenal.
Damiani sees PSG as frontrunners in the race to sign Osimhen, insisting that the French side have a good relationship with Napoli and the fact that PSG’s transfer guru Luís Campos used to work with the Nigerian at his former club Lille.

Osimhen has a release clause of 130 million euros and PSG are eager to sign the former Lille star in the summer.

“Osimhen, however, is irreplaceable: only play can give something more to the team, but individually you can’t find anyone else like him,” Oscar Damiani told Radio Punto Nuovo.

“I don’t know now if Osimhen will be Mbappé’s heir, the PSG managers didn’t tell me anything.

“However, there aren’t many teams that can afford him, so it’s clear that Paris is among the few candidates that they would have the ability to purchase him.”

Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, says the administration of President Bola Tinubu is working to put Nigeria on a solid economic pedestal.
Onanuga said this in a statement in Abuja.

He was reacting to the accusation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the Tinubu-led administration was trying to entrench a one party state.
“Unlike the PDP’s administration of 16 years, the Tinubu administration has been confronting the problems of our country headlong.

“The administration is moving for an audacious reset that will firmly put our country on a solid economic pedestal.
“The results are already showing. Contrary to the pessimism and wishes of some PDP leaders, the national currency has become the world’s best performing.

“Appreciating by almost 50 per cent against the dollar in few weeks, exchange rate is stabilising as a convergence has been reached between official and so-called parallel market,” Onanuga said.
He added that the contrived pall of gloom cast over the country had faded out and renewed hope had been on leashed.
He said such was the positive trend the APC economic programme had generated that the IMF had reviewed upward the growth projection for Nigeria in 2024 from 2.9 per cent to 3.3 per cent.

Onanuga said the Tinubu administration had targeted a higher growth with its plans to embark on audacious infrastructure projects, such as the Badagry-Sokoto Highway and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
He said the government’s economic team was doing well, adding that no sane government would change a winning team
This,he said, was especially if such a team was working in sync with the advisory of the private sector, state governors and economic gurus in the country.

“This is far from the truth. Security has improved, with fewer cases of terrorist attacks and banditry recorded,” Onanuga said.
He added that in recent weeks, over a thousand kidnapped victims, had been rescued by the country’s gallant armed forces, without government paying ransom.

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has revealed that his Manchester City counterpart, Pep Guardiola came into the dressing room to congratulate them following their Champions League quarter-final defeat on Wednesday.

The LaLiga champions needed a penalty shoot-out to eliminate City, after the tie ended 1-1 (4-4 on aggregate) at the Etihad.
Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic missed for Guardiola’s men, while Luka Modric missed for Real.
However, it is Los Blancos who progressed to play Bayern Munich in the semi-final of the competition.

“This is about the only way you can come to City and win.

“You work, sacrifice and win however you can.
“Pep Guardiola is a gentleman, always has been. He congratulated us, wished us good luck and that’s what a real gent does,” Ancelotti told Movistar.

18/04/2024

Real Madrid secured a spot in the Uefa Champions League semi-finals with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, setting up a showdown with Bayern Munich in the last four.

The tense quarter-final clash saw the two teams deadlocked at 3-3 after the first leg in Madrid, and the return leg in Manchester proved just as intense.

Despite a late goal from Kevin De Bruyne cancelling out an early strike from Rodrygo, neither team could find a winner in regulation time or extra time.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the penalty shootout, where Real Madrid emerged victorious after Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic failed to convert their spot-kicks, with Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin emerging as the unlikely hero with crucial saves.
The result marked a reversal of fortunes for both teams, with Man City’s defence of their Champions League title coming to an end and Real Madrid avenging their defeat to Citizens in last year’s quarter-finals.

The match saw an early lead for Real Madrid, with Rodrygo capitalizing on an opportunity created by Vinicius Junior. Despite City’s efforts to mount a comeback, they struggled to find a breakthrough until De Bruyne’s late equalizer.

Real Madrid’s defensive resilience, combined with Lunin’s heroics in goal, proved decisive as they held off City’s relentless attacks to secure their place in the semi-finals.

“First of all, congratulations to Real Madrid,” said Guardiola in his post-match conference.
“We did everything, I don’t have any regrets. Always, as a manager, I try to create more and concede less. There were one, two or three transitions but that is normal. We played exceptionally well in all departments. Unfortunately, we could not win. That is how it is.

“Today, they defended deeper than the previous seasons. We created chances. But football is about scoring goals. From the penalty spot, they did it a bit better than us. Sometimes you win with penalties, sometimes not. The way we played, we should have done it before.”

Guardiola confirmed that the decision to substitute Haaland and De Bruyne, along with Manuel Akanji, came following requests from the players

Obianuju Catherine Udeh popularly known as DJ Switch has been arrested by the police in Lagos and is currently being taken to the magistrate court in Eti Osa.

According to reports, a police source said DJ Switch visited the police in Elemoro, Ajah on Monday, April 15 to complain about a man who allegedly defrauded her.

According to the police, the man was arrested on the same day and has been in police custody.
The police source told LIB that DJ Switch was then invited yesterday April 17 to inquire from her what exactly she wanted, whether for the accused to be charged to court or for him to be released on bail as it is against the law to detain an accused for more than 48 hours.

The source alleged that DJ Switch insisted that the only thing she wants is for the accused to do an apology which she will record and then post online which the accused bluntly refused. At this junction, the police then settled to take the matter to court since both parties were not bulging.

The police source alleged that while the officers were about to drive out with the accused to court, DJ Switch allegedly used her vehicle to block the entrance of the station and allegedly assaulted the female officers attached to the case. She was then arrested for obstructing police while on duty, resisting arrest as well as assaulting police officers. The accused was taken to the court and was remanded in prison custody.

DJ Switch is currently on her way to the Magistrate court in Eti-Osa where she will be arraigned for obstructing police officers while on duty and assaulting officers.

DJ Switch is popular for being a former reality tv show winner, a DJ and a major voice in the movement.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the inclusion of graduates of the National Open University in the National Youth Service Corps.

The president directed the Federal Ministry of Education to formulate the necessary modalities to enforce the directive.

According to reports, This was revealed in a statement published on the NOUN website on Wednesday in Abuja.

“With the changing demographics of our great nation, the government has recognised the importance of allowing NOUN graduates to participate in the NYSC scheme,” he said.

According to the statement, the President, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission Dr. Biodun Saliu, made the declaration during the recent convocation ceremony of NOUN,

He said, “The doors of the Law School are now open to the graduates, ensuring equal opportunities for all. Any remaining concerns or uncertainties should be promptly addressed by the Federal Ministry of Education.”

The President said the gathering signified not only the academic achievement of the graduates but also underscored the pivotal role Open and Distance Education plays in the nation’s educational landscape.

Tinubu said his administration would continue to promote Open and Distance Learning to improve access to higher education in the country, stressing that the deployment of the ODL is a key to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

“The government is, therefore, committed through the Federal Ministry of Education and the NUC to provide the enabling environment to ensure a good delivery of this mode of education in Nigeria,” Tinubu added.

While expressing his enthusiasm with the fact that the university, which was initially conceived as a means of providing education for the working class, has evolved through persistence and focus, and has now emerged to be providing education access for the teeming youth population.

The President stated that he was not unaware that a large number of school leavers were unable to secure admissions into conventional universities, as a result, there was a need for research efforts in technology to be enhanced for NOUN to increase its admission of young school leavers,

18/04/2024

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has blamed Bukayo Saka for the Gunners loss to Bayern Munich in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League second leg quarter-final.

Recall that the Gunners went down 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter final second leg.

After a 2-2 draw at home, the Gunners could not muster any real chances on goal in the second leg, with Saka having a standout poor night.

Reacting to the game, Keown stated that Saka’s inability to convert some of the chances that came the team’s way cost the team badly.

“It was very disappointing, kind of summed up at the end there when Saka for some reason taking a free kick [short] when there was the opportunity to really test the goalkeeper,” Keown told TNT Sports.

“You just saw that little bit of lack of experience. There needs to be more urgency in the closing exchanges. Saka made that decision in the moment.

“I admire that as well. But I think he might have been better taking that delivery from the free kick and it might have been a wonder goal.

“You wanted to see the ball going in the box. That urgency wasn’t there and I think that’s a lack of experience, of being in those major games, and knowing what to do in those critical moments.

“No real urgency in those closing stages. Hugely disappointing. Just feel as though we didn’t really lay a glove on them in this second tie. It was there if we wanted it, as Owen said, and Bayern came out with the resolve, direct, and posed much more of a threat than Arsenal did. Look at that, sums it up doesn’t it, the last action of the game.

‘I think the cautiousness of the game really helped Bayern to sort of, “okay, let’s change gear in the second half,” and Arsenal never really did that. They contained Arsenal.

“It was just such a flat performance, even at the end there, the ball, get it in the box, get it in there, try and affect, and they didn’t seem prepared to do that. You don’t deserve to go through if you play a performance like that tonight

17/04/2024

A brace from Kylian Mbappe and a strike from Ousmane Dembele saw Paris Saint-Germain thrash Barcelona 4-1, in the Champions League quarter-final second leg tie in Spain.

It was a night to forget for Barcelona as Xavi, defender Ronald Arajuo, and even goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente sent off.

The LaLiga giants came into the second leg holding a 3-2 advantage from their victory in Paris last week.
They looked on course for the semi-final when Raphinha’s early strike put them 1-0 up on 12 minutes.

However, the tie turned on its head when Arajuo was shown a straight red card on 29 minutes for impeding Bradley Barcola as the last man back.
Former Barcelona man Dembele equalised with five minutes left in the first half.

Vitinha then put PSG 2-1 ahead on the night nine minutes into the second half.
Barca boss Xavi lost his head at how referee Istvan Kovacs had officiated the contest.

The Spaniard booted the advertising hoarding in front of the fourth official in frustration and his aggression saw him get sent to the stands.
Things went from bad to worse for the Catalans when Joao Cancelo dived in late on Dembele inside the box to give away a penalty.

Mbappe, who will likely be facing Barcelona as a rival player for Real Madrid next season, then made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-1 on 61 minutes.

Barcelona goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente’s protests saw him join Xavi in being shown a red as the club pushed for a way back.
But after committing players forwards, Mbappe got his second and PSG’s fourth goal on 89 minutes.

His second-half double meant Mbappe has now scored six goals against Barcelona in the Champions League – his most against any opponent in the competition.

PSG will now face Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals after the Germans ousted Atletico Madrid.
Dortmund lost the first leg 2-1 in Spain before triumphing 4-2 in the reverse fixture.

On Wednesday, holders Manchester City will host Real Madrid with everything to play for after the first leg ended 3-3.
At the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich will hope to overcome Arsenal whom they held to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates.

“I use my money to build love. I used my money to build relationships. Did I spray money at the club? I was spraying money in the area where they need me”.

In the wake of the investigations and clampdown on Nigerian celebrities who allegedly abuse the Naira, singer Portable has pleaded with the EFCC to be lenient with him if they have videos of him spraying the currency.

The ‘Zazzu zeh’ singer went live on Instagram on Wednesday to plead with the anti-graft agency for forgiveness for spraying naira and promised not to repeat such.

He said: “ I help a lot of people; after God is Government, Please forgive me if you have videos of me spraying money; no more spraying of money.”

Portable’s appeal video went viral shortly after the IG celebrity, Cubana Chief Priest, was arraigned for violating the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Cubana Chief Priest faces a three-count charge for allegedly abusing the Naira.

His arraignment comes shortly after the EFCC announced its intention to prosecute numerous celebrities for naira abuse.

Statement
In his live video, he appealed to EFCC and showed his generosity by offering transfers to his fans and people in need, urging them to open bank accounts.

“I use my money to build love. I used my money to build relationships. Did I spray money at the club? I was spraying money in the area where they need me,” he said.

“I didn’t deface the naira; I helped many people, after God na Government; please forgive me if you have videos of me spraying money, no more spraying of money.”

”If it’s about money, open bank accounts, and let’s make transfers.”

Cubana Chief Priest
The commission announced its commitment to holding accountable anyone found guilty of violating the laws related to this offence: “It will not relent in its no-sacred-cow mode of operations, and the public should be wary of running afoul of laws against the crime.”

This pronouncement was issued in a statement released on Sunday, days after the successful conviction of renowned crossdresser Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira mutilation.

The socialite was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Lagos, before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on Wednesday
Famous Instagram celebrity Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has pleaded not guilty for alleged Naira abuse.

He pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was granted bail of N10m.
The socialite was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Lagos, before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on Wednesday.

The three-count charge
The anti-graft commission filed a three-count charge of allegedly spraying and tampering with the Naira notes at a social event contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

In the charge filed on 4 April by the EFFC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and seven other lawyers representing the anti-graft commission, it was alleged that Mr Okechukwu 13 February, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

In count 2, it was alleged “that you, Okechukwu Pasca,l sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”

In count 3, it was alleged: “that you, Okechukwu Pasca,l sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”

Recall that the EFCC on April 5 secured the conviction of popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on similar charges for which he was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

The police said the suspect confessed to the crime and have recovered some fake naira notes from him.

The police in Enugu State, South-east Nigeria, say they will arraign a 24-year-old man for allegedly possessing and transacting in fake naira notes in the state.

The suspect, Mmaduabuchi Okonkwo, is a resident of Mkpologu in Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect was arrested on 10 April at a bus stop along Abakaliki Road in the state.

Mr Ndukwe, a deputy superintendent of police, said the suspect was arrested by police operatives serving in Abakaliki Road Police Divisional Headquarters with the support of residents in the area.

“A preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect boarded a minibus from New Haven Junction to Old IMT Bus Stop, Enugu, and gave the driver one of the counterfeited notes.
“The driver, however, scrutinised and observed that the currency was fake, thereby raising an alarm that led to the suspect’s arrest,” he said.

The spokesperson said police operatives recovered fake naira notes worth N40,000 from the suspect.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having paid the sum of N25,000 genuine Naira notes to his cohort at large for the counterfeited Naira notes worth N50,000,” Mr Ndukwe stated.
He said the suspect further confessed to having spent N10,000 out of the fake notes, remaining the N40,000 that was recovered from him.

“The suspect will be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” the police spokesperson added.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has described the suspect’s act as a “premeditated act of economic sabotage, aimed at inflicting social, psychological, and economic pains on fellow citizens,” Mr Ndukwe said.

Mr Uzuegbu urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and exercise caution while transacting with anyone they suspect to be in possession of fake currencies.

16/04/2024

Ahead of his arraignment at the Kano State High Court on Wednesday, April 17, the state Anti-corruption and Public Complaints Commission has filed fresh charges against former governor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.

Chairman of the agency, Muhuyi Magaji who disclosed this when he appeared on a Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, on Tuesday, said the ex-governor is being investigated in an alleged corruption case involving N51 billion during his administration between 2015 to 2023.

Magaji stated that towards the end of his administration, Ganduje withdrew N1 billion from the state’s coffers meant for the rehabilitation of roads within the metropolis but that the sum was allegedly diverted.

“What is happening now is a tip of the iceberg. As I am talking to you, we are investigating a case whereby N51.3 billion local government funds were directly taken from the government coffers (and) sent to other individuals, and we traced it to people,” Magaji said.

According to Magaji, some of the new charges are based on frauds perpetrated towards the end of Ganduje‘s administration.

“We have piled a series of cases. We have a case whereby N1 billion in April last year was removed from government coffers under the allocation of renovating 30 roads in the metropolis and it was taken away, sent to Bureau de Change.

“We have a case of N4 billion whereby it was sent from the consolidated revenue account of Kano state to an agricultural company. All these cases are before the court.

“Basically, we have an institution in the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) that is devoid of political activities and dedicated to fight corruption, check maladministration and fight injustice,” the agency boss said.

Ganduje will on Wednesday, April 17, be arraigned at the Kano High Court on charges bordering on allegations of bribery, diversion, and misappropriation of funds, including the purported acceptance of $413,000 and N1.38bn in bribes, alongside his wife, Hajia Hafsat Umar, and six others.

The other accused as listed in the writ of summon include Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhamma

16/04/2024

The federal government of Nigeria appears to have bowed to pressure from domestic crude oil refiners like Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Plant and other modular refinery operators in the sector and has given approval for them to have the option to pay naira or dollar for crude oil.
The government made this disclosure through the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) at a briefing in Abuja, where it unveiled the new template for domestic crude oil supply obligation.

It would be recalled that the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria had been mounting pressure on the federal government to demand that crude oil be sold to them in the domestic currency as they were facing increasing challenges in accessing FX stating that they may be forced to close shop if nothing was done to ameliorate the situation.
The Publicity Secretary of the association Eche Idoko had lamented that the purchase of crude oil in dollars is currently the major challenge to modular refineries while disclosing that they buy crude in dollars and sell refined products in naira which they described as a major challenge.

“And apart from that, where do you get the dollars to pay for the crude? You heard the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria crying out recently about the dollar saga. We have requested that crude oil be sold to us in naira. And when you do this, you ease the pressure on the naira and this will make our diesel cheaper.
“It will encourage more investors to build and patronise the local refineries. If you take petroleum products off the foreign exchange market, you would have helped the naira by 60 per cent” he had said.

Reacting to this at a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, the Executive Secretary\ Chief Executive Officer, NUPRC, Engr Gbenga Komolafe disclosed that based on the provisions of Section 109(2) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, the NUPRC in a landmark move, had developed a template guiding the activities for Domestic Crude Oil Supply Obligation which was arrived at in conjunction with relevant stakeholders from NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, representatives of Crude Oil/Condensate Producers, Crude Oil Refinery-Owner

16/04/2024

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says that about 95 million Nigerians need to enroll for the National Identification Number (NIN).
The Head of Corporate Communications at the commission, Kayode Adegoke, disclosed this in a tweet recently.
Adegoke said that for NIMC to meet the 200 million target by 2025, 95 million Nigerians need to register for the NIN.

“As of today, over 105 million NIN have been issued to Nigerians and legal residents. We want to assure Nigerians that within the next one or two years, we will reach our target of enrolling all Nigerians,” he said.
He said the commission remained steadfast in its commitment to achieving universal enrolment in the NIN system by 2025.

Adegoke noted that following Abisoye Coker’s appointment as the director-general of MIMC, she recognised the need to streamline the modification and enrolment processes.

He added that a self-service platform was developed, enabling Nigerians, both locally and abroad, to make necessary modifications such as changing names, dates of birth, email addresses, and phone numbers from the comfort of their homes or offices, using various devices, including iOS and Android-based devices.

Adegoke emphasised the convenience of the self-service modification portal, urging Nigerians to take advantage of this innovative solution.
He highlighted the evolution of the process, noting that in the past, applicants had to visit NIMC offices for data corrections.

The NIN, a unique identifier assigned to each citizen, has gained prominence in recent years as the cornerstone of various government initiatives aimed at enhancing security, governance, and service delivery.
