Sit-at-home: You won’t enslave Ndigbo for one week – Ohanaeze tells IPOB

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, on Sunday, kicked against the one-week sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB
It was reported that the pro-Biafra group had threatened a one-week sit-at-home if their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was not released forthwith.

The declaration, targeted at the November 6 Anambra election, has been attracting wild condemnation.

In a statement by the Secretary-General of the Chidi Ibeh-led apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, he said Ndigbo should not obey the order this time.

He said, “any declaration that unleashes untold hardship, leads to the collapse of commercial and industrial activities, boycott of Anambra elections, and interrupts the academic calendar in the Southeastern states is nonsensical, absurd, and anti-Igbo agenda, for the enemy’s amusement.”

While describing the order as the enslavement of Ndigbo, Isiguzoro said it was time “for the Igbo to rise to the occasion and end being trampled with orders from overseas by those without any investments in the South-East”.

He added that “IPOB should discern that there was self-determination struggle in Africa before now. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in jail and never in the history of the movement against Apartheid was starvation, anguish, and catastrophe unleashed on Black South Africans by ANC.

“It is impulsive and reckless to order Ndigbo to observe one-week sit-at-home when it’s obvious that Nnamdi Kanu will not be released without the approval of courts.

“IPOB should revisit and nullify the one-week sit-at-home or they will likely lose the support of the Ndigbo henceforth, Ndigbo must participate in Anambra election and nothing should stop it”.

He cautioned that such orders if implemented would give a particular political party an edge in the election.

Femi Otedola Becomes Largest Shareholder in First Bank with N30bn Stake

Reports that billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has taken a controlling stake in First Bank of Nigeria worth about N30 billion can be confirmed by MoneyCentral.

Sources tell MoneyCentral that the transaction happened over the past 1 month (from around September 27th) as shares of FBN Holdings (the parent company of First Bank) began to climb higher following the acquisitions, which makes Otedola the single largest shareholder of the bank.

“We reckon he built his stake through a number of vehicles, including custody accounts,” a source speaking to MoneyCentral said.

First Bank shares are up 103 percent in the past one year and are up some 52 percent since September 30 alone to trade at N12.24 per share today from N8.05 per share back then.

First Bank has a market capitalisation of N434.3 billion, meaning Otedola could be controlling up to a 7 percent stake in the bank with a N30 billion purchase of shares.

Another source told MoneyCentral that the amount spent by Otedola to buy a majority stake in First Bank was much higher than N30 billion figure.

“He spent much higher than that, and if you know him well you will know that he will keep on increasing his stake in the bank,” the second source said.

What this invariably means is that being the largest shareholder, he holds the highest voting shares and can dictate the direction of the bank through his voting power.

In 2019 when he divested his 75% direct and indirect share holding in Forte Oil, via a merger of his company Zenon Oil and former African Petroleum, many wondered why he made such a decision especially because of the lucrative nature of the oil and gas sector.

They became all the more curious as to what his next move would be.

He didn’t keep them guessing too long as he soon announced that he wanted to explore and maximize business opportunities in refining and petrochemicals.

Even though he also had investments in the real estate and financial sector, Otedola singled out First Bank for the single reason that there wasn’t exactly one man calling the shots there, unlike in other new generation banks.

He wasted no time in taking advantage of the leadership crisis that rocked First Bank not too long ago that the Central Bank of Nigeria sacking both the chairman of the bank, Ibukun Awosika and Obafemi Otudeko, the chairman of FBN Holdings

Mass Communication Graduate R***d And Killed In Benue State (Photos)

The lady, a graduate of Mass Communication from the Benue State University awaiting call up from the National Youth Service Corps, was allegedly r***d and killed at North Bank Area of Makurdi.

She was said to have received a call from someone to come to a particular place at North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi to supply clothes.

The mother of the deceased, Mrs Grace Onoh, a widow with three children and native of Obollo Afor, Enugu State, told journalists that Joy who was her first child told her that she was going to North Bank to supply clothes to some people.

Mrs. Onoh who said she lost her husband about twelve years ago narrated how her daughter had been struggling to send herself to the University through the little business.

The family lives off Adikpo Street behind NUJ secretariat Makurdi.

“Joy left home on Tuesday to deliver Turtle Neck cloth to some persons at Federal Housing, North Bank.

“She left the house at about 4.50pm and did not return again. I made frantic efforts to call her phone but someone busied it. Her sister Cynthia called and this time, it went through but she cried and asked her sister to send her bank details.

“I reported the matter to the Police that night but they asked me to come back the next day. The next day, they told me to wait till after 24 hours only to hear by 5pm that her body was found at Federal Low Cost in North Bank.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene who confirmed the case said a case of a missing person was reported to the Police and a search was conducted.

Anene said on 20th October 2021, Joy’s co**se was discovered at about 7am in a bush a Federal Low Cost.

“She was called to deliver goods at Federal Housing North Bank Makurdi and we later discovered her co**se in a bush.

“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of her death,” DSP Anene said.

Nnamdi Kanu: Ohanaeze kicks as court bars Ezeife, journalists, lawyers

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called for calm after Nnamdi Kanu’s arraignment in court on Thursday.

This is as the group condemned the treatment meted out on some Igbo leaders, journalists and lawyers who were in the court to observe the proceedings during Kanu’s trial.

We reported that Kanu was finally docked before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja. He pleaded not guilty to the amended 7-count charge.

During the trial, a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a host of other Igbo leaders, journalists and lawyers were denied access to the court sitting.

Prior to his arraignment, his group the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had threatened a one-month total lockdown should the Federal Government fail to produce him in court.

In a statement made available to journalists, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike urged Igbo youths to remain calm as underground efforts continue in order to secure Kanu’s freedom.

He said the total compliance to the sit-at-home across the South-East was enough solidarity with Kanu and urged the youths to immediately de-escalate tension.

“We thank first of all our people for the peace and calmness that pervaded every corner of the South-East throughout today. It shows that our people are still totally united despite the picture our enemies would want to paint.

“At this juncture, I appeal to our youths to cease any form of hostility, including the Monday sit-at-home. We all saw Mazi Nnamdi Kanu today hale and hearty and in high spirit.

“It is, therefore, necessary that we all calm down and allow ongoing efforts to secure his freedom. We are totally aware of genuine efforts to ensure that he is released as quickly as possible. We should give those behind this move the chance and the needed air of freedom to see this through.”

Okwu, however, expressed anger over the way Ezeife and others were treated during the trial.

“We condemn such treatment in totality; there is no justification for that; Nnamdi Kanu is an Igbo son and Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife was there with the mandate of Ndigbo to observe the trial of their son.

“We don’t know why the Federal Government has continued to treat Ndigbo as second class citizens. This has got to stop.

“This case has been adjourned to November 10 and we expect that before then, the authorities concerned should have talked to themselves and avoid a repeat of that show of shame.

“Journalists should also be allowed to carry out their constitutional duties, just as we warned earlier against secret a trial of the IPOB leader,” he said.

Baba Ijesha: It was blunt pe*******on – Doctor confirms abuse of Minor

A medical doctor, Dr. Aniekan Makanjuola, on Thursday narrated before an Ikeja Special Offences Court how a minor (name withheld) was allegedly defiled by Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, alias “Baba Ijesha”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Makanjuola made the revelation while being led in evidence by the state prosecutor, Mr. Yusuf Sule, during the trial of the embattled actor over allegations of defilement.

“Our findings were that there was a blunt pe*******on of the va**na which was consistent with the client’s history,” she said.

Makanjuola, a trained forensic medical examiner, is Head of Clinical Services at Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF). She was testifying as the fourth prosecution witness.

She said: “We took her to the consulting room and she gave a history of the events from seven years ago. She did not mention these incidents to her mother but it began to affect her mood and academic performance.

“She disclosed what happened to her mother’s friend on April 16 who in turn informed her mother. We decided to do an examination.

“There was normal external genitalia, we observed a healed laceration on the l***a minora at the 3’0Clock position; we also observed a notch at the 6’0 clock position.

“Based on these findings, my lord, the client was sent to the laboratory for more tests, they were HIV 1 and 2, Hepatitis A, B, Syphilis and pregnancy and they all came out negative.

“She was sent for psychological assessment and a report was made, authenticated and sent to the SCID.”

Following the revelations, the prosecution tendered the referral letter and medical report as evidence to the court. They were admitted as evidence and marked as Exhibit J and J1.

While under cross-examination by defence counsel, Mr Dada Awosika (SAN), Makanjuola revealed that WARIF is a sexual assault referral centre.

She said that she conducted the medical examination based on the client’s history.

“The healed lacerations connotes is that the lacerations found in the genitalia were not something that was recent my lord,”

Baba Ijesha is facing a six-count charge bordering on indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by pe*******on and sexual assault by pe*******on.

Actress and comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, alias Princess, the foster mother of the minor, was present in court to observe the proceedings.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned the case until Nov. 5 and 12 for a continuation of trial.

Tiwa Savage: How S*x Tape With My Boyfriend Leaked

Pop star, Tiwa Savage, who recently revealed that she was being blackmailed over a s*x tape of herself and her partner, has shared how it was leaked.

She said the video was accidentally posted on Snapchat by her lover who deleted it after he realised his error but it had already been downloaded by a stalker.

Speaking in an interview with American OAP, Angie Martinez of Power 105.1, the singer absolved her lover and other people close to her of deliberately leaking the video.

She said, “I am not going to call it a s*x tape but it’s a tape between me and the person I am dating right now…It is not from someone working closely with me. What happened is that the person did it on Snap and he posted it by accident, but he quickly deleted it.

”However, someone got it before he could delete it. It is a very short video, but it is me. It is going to be out there and I can just imagine the memes. I just found out yesterday. I could not sleep last night.”

Savage, 41, revealed that the incident happened last month and that the person tried extorting money from her but that she was not going to allow anyone to blackmail her “for doing something that is natural.”

“I am that crazy I could put it out myself – you are not making any money off me,” she said.

The singer also said she tried to manage the situation to no avail. She said, ”We tried to stall them, but I later decided that I am going to own the narrative. I am not ashamed of it; this is someone I am dating; I am not cheating, neither is he. We are grownups.

”I cannot believe this is happening to me. I feel for my fans because they will have to keep defending me. I can switch off my phone or have someone run my account so I do not see that, but my fans will feel the need to protect me. I will like my fans to ignore it.”

Savage disclosed that the blackmailer sent the s*x video of herself and her current partner to her team, demanding money.

The singer, who would be releasing the video of her song “Somebody’s Son” featuring American singer Brandy, on Tuesday, also encouraged her fans who would like to protect her and defend her to ‘let it go.”

Savage also disclosed that she has over 13 million followers and she shares a good relationship with her fans.

The artiste is not the first Nigerian celebrity to be blackmailed over n**e images.

In April 2020, Waka music originator, Salawa Abeni, released her n**e pictures after being threatened by a blackmailer.

The 59-year-old music legend accused him of threatening to tarnish her image and destroy her career of over 45 years.

She, however, decided to share her n**e pictures on Instagram and screenshots of her chat with the blackmailer so that she could be left alone.

Her blackmailer, Olufowoke Oladunjoye Emmanuel, a 19-year-old National Diploma holder of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos was nabbed in June 2020.

The suspect, a resident of Brentfield Avenue, Peace Estate, Magboro, Ogun State, was picked up by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad after three days of monitoring him.

Also in April 2020, media girl, T**e Makinwa, dared blackmailers who threatened to publish her n**e pictures.

Makinwa rather in a post on her Instagram page, released one of the photographs, with a long note addressed to her blackmailers.

Revenge p**n or non-consensual p**nography – circulation of intimate images or videos of someone has become an increasing problem, especially for young women in many parts of the world.

In Nigeria, victims are protected by a 2015 cyber-crime act that made it an offense with up to three years in jail, and two years ago, a man was convicted for sharing photos of his lover on Facebook.

THIS SHOULD GO VIRAL FOR OUR EDUCATION, ENLIGHTENMENT AND ADHERENCE.

US Dollar vs NIG Naira: The Real Issues.

- Dr Oni Gbolabo

1. Appreciation and depreciation of currency is not related to race or color or who is the president be it Hausa Igbo or Yoruba. It is basically about production of goods and services and the demand of your products in the world market. A confused country that produces almost nothing will never meet up, policies only control your currency not the value of another countries currency against yours.

2. A country where over 500 industries died within 30 years must be stupid to complain of depreciation of her currency. We keep killing local industries and expect policies to make it up, it's a joke sir. Don't use China as an example if depreciating currencies and strong economy, China produces and may attract more export with that strategy unlike Nigeria that produces nothing.

3. A country where someone carried $2+billion simply to be shared is already a doomed one in terms of monetary policy and value. A country that produces Dizeani and Bafarawa who spent billion to appease demons. Those money without economic value is an economic poison injected into the system.

4. A country that favours importation over local production is doomed because it creates employment for another country while sacking her own citizens. Some people are working in Michelin and Dunlop somewhere, yet we use the tyre here. Don't tell me principle of comparative advantage here, it's not applicable.

5. A country that exports all raw materials without adding value is shameless to talk of depreciation of currency, to later re-import finished products of that materials is the peak of daftness. A bag of cocoa will go for like N1 million naira but when it is processed it will worth around N7million. Even farmers who produced raw cocoa can't buy chocolate.

6. A country that deliberately operate banking system that gives loans to importers at the expense of local industries is doomed and should say nothing about depreciation. Most of the loans are given to senators and representatives not industrialists.

7. A country that give loans in billions to agric sector without monitoring & evaluation of such loan on how it gets to the real farmers is a sham. A guy collected over N2 billion agric loan, he bought a jeep, built a nice house and use the rest to import processed pork. Meanwhile, local pork farmers are dying here. Is that not a double tragedy, stressing forex at the same time killing local industries.

8. A country that spend more on few privileged politicians at the cost of the populace who are unemployed should not talk about money depreciation. A country that keeps paying NNPC staff N10 billion as salaries every month when a single drop of petrol was not processed shout shut up about depreciation of currency. Crime is rising as value added to the initial failure.

9. A country where it is difficult for investors to register businesses because of the governent officials demanding for bribe. Right from airport, to hotel, to minister to governors investors will bribe, all these are part of cost of investment. A friend brought investor on estate development just for the state commissioner in charge to demand 30% of the investment. To see the governor in a state will cost you N2 million as bribe before you can be scheduled. This is a state as poor as anything.

10. A country where the cost of travelling for treatment abroad by officials will build world class hospitals should not talk about naira against dollar parity. Money taken to that trip is part of stress on forex. Same as forex spend on pilgrimage, let religion fanatics keep off me here. Without going to Mecca or Jerusalem you can still make heaven. You waste forex on pilgrimage to later be talking rubbish about forex.

11. A country where few people have access to federal reserve and those few can get loans are not because of what they can produce but the connection they have, is that country not gone already?

12. A country where we import what we produce because it's cheaper over there is gone.

13. A country that has arable land, teaming idle youths and still complain of hunger should not talk about currency depreciation. It's annoying.

14. A country where free money flows can never control inflow and outflow of forex. Imagine someone who wants to hide his loot went to Aboki to buy dollars worth $50 million just to hide it in the basement of his house. That money has no economic value yet it deprived those companies that need it to import raw materials, those companies go to Aboki to buy at exorbitant price.

15. A country where a strong bank owners can influence shares from within Stock Exchange room to inflate their shares worth from N20 to N150, crash the same share to N30 and ready to buy it back at N28 all within a year. Forget it, currency will never appreciate in such economy.

16. A country where banks are involved in round tripping and inflated cost to siphon money is doomed. A company wants to import caterpillar worths $50,000. A bank made the forex $550,000j meanwhile no caterpillar was imported at last yet the money faded into private accounts. Who strain forex in that case?
