The learned wife Be**er

A Lawyer seen in a now viral video assaulting his wife has been arrested and will soon be charged to court.

A statement on Monday by the government said the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Umo Eno, has seen the video and believes it is horrendous enough to require punishment. The man in the video, said to be Ekere Ebong was seen in the video brutalising his wife until she lost blood.

“The Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, condemn this grave act of gender-based violence in the strongest possible term. Government will assist the lady who was so dehumanized by a man who otherwise should be the one to protect her and ensure that justice is served in line with the provisions of the law against Gender-Based Violence (GBV),” the statement by government said

It further stated that it is heartwarming to note that, an order for the arrest of the culprit given last night, has been successfully executed. “Mr. Ebong, was arrested this morning and is currently in custody of the Police and would be charged to court soon. Government has zero-tolerance for gender-based violence and indeed any other form of violence.

“We call on the Nigerian Bar Association, ( NBA) to also institute disciplinary measures to punish Mr. Ebong, whose conduct, as a lawyer, is against the values and ethics of the noble profession.”

Akwa Ibom Lawyer Brutalizes wife and throws her out naked in the middle of the Night.

An Uyo based senior lawyer, was caught on camera by neighbors brutalizing his wife in a show of shame. According to one of the neighbors who incidentally caught the drama on camera, he said the act has been going on for so many years. The woman who is the wife of the lawyer sustained serious injuries as she was seen bleeding badly.

If a man that is supposed to be learned is doing this, then the Nigerian Bar Association needs to check the kind of lawyers they call to bar. We urge the NBA, Akwa ibom state to look into this matter and give justice to the woman in question.

It is barbaric, devilish and unethical for a lawyer to this do. Let this nonsense STOP.

EKPERIKPE EKPO: 100 DAYS OF REDIRECTING NIGERIA’S ENERGY LANDSCAPE

By Owolabi Ajibade

As the global focus on sustainable and clean energy intensifies, and in the wake of changing economic tides, the landmark decimation of Nigeria’s Petroleum Ministry and subsequent creation of a standalone Ministry of Gas Resources was indicative of Nigeria’s readiness to harness a sustainable alternative to the extant fossil-fuel-driven economy which is prospected have a huge impact on the country's economic trajectory and a pivotal moment in the country’s history.

Throwing Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo into the deep end with his appointment as the Minister of State for Gas Resources when he is better known for delivering gargantuan results, working from behind the scenes, sparked both anticipation and speculation considering the enormity of the unique task of tending to this vision. But being a former Federal Legislator in the Green Chambers between 2007 and 2011, Ekpo is however, not stranger to the challenges of the Nigerian state and so has duly folded his sleeves and gotten down to the business of expanding energy accessibility towards expanding the nation’s revenue stream.

Accordingly, the 100 days since his appointment have been a very defining one for the nation's energy in terms of redirecting the existing landscape, given the unprecedented and renewed focus on the gas sector. In an era of interconnected economies and shared environmental challenges, the Minister has acknowledged the need to work beyond national borders.

By presenting a clear vision and roadmap for the future, he has actively sought to attract both domestic and foreign investments in the gas sector.

At the 13th Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) Conference and Exhibition held in Abuja, Mr. Ekpo solicited the cooperation of private sector investors in deepening the utilization of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Nigeria. Minister Ekpo has also tabled the offerings of the Nigerian gas project before industry players and key stakeholders at the continental level. During a meeting of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) Project Authority Committee of Ministers in Cotonou, Benin Republic, he restated the commitment of Nigeria to supporting the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) Project realize its full potential and objectives, while also assuring other member countries (Benin, Togo and Ghana) of uninterrupted gas supply from Nigeria to meet their domestic needs.

He led the country’s delegation to the Gastech 2023 Conference and Exhibition in Singapore (touted as the world's largest meeting place for the global natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, low-carbon solutions, and climate technologies industries) where he urged investors to avail themselves of tremendous opportunities that the Nigerian gas sector offers the global market while informing the forum that Nigeria is playing a leadership role in Africa for an inclusive energy transition that considers a central role for gas as a transitionary fuel and some of the key objectives of Nigeria's decarbonization plan.

The first 100 days of Ekpo’s stewardship have witnessed tangible economic benefits arising from his proactivity. Job creation and infrastructure development have boosted a positive economic ripple effect within the country.

Aside from meetings with various local and international investors geared at unlocking the potential of the sector for national growth, the Minister also undertook tours of infrastructure projects, one of such being the NLNG plant in Bonny Island, Rivers State; Obrikom, Obiafo, and Oben (OB3) gas pipeline project, where he urged contractors handling the project to ensure its completion by December of 2023. The 48 × 1.8km gas pipeline project is designed to run across the River Niger conveying gas from the South-South and South-East of the country to the South West and the Ajaokuta, Kano and Kaduna (AKK) Project where he also told contractors that the July/August 2024 deadline is sacrosanct, among others.

Ekpo has also assured that the construction of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, which targets connecting the European market, is expected to begin in 2024.

Under this project, Gas will be transported through several African countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania and Morocco.Under Mr Ekpo’s watch, the gas sector has witnessed reforms to modernize and streamline it.

Moves have been made to resolve all challenges, stifling efficient gas supplies to consumers in the country at both the upstream and downstream levels.

During a meeting with a delegation from Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria in Abuja, he announced the roll out of initiatives to improve distribution networks and encourage private sector participation, towards making gas available as a source of fuel to the Auto, Power and industrial consumers.

On the domestic front, Minister Ekpo has timely waded into the challenges bordering on the supply and pricing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the country's domestic market. The intervention follows the rise in recent months in the price of LPG from about Seven Hundred Naira (N700) to above Nine Hundred Naira (N900) per kilogram in some parts of the country.

He has swung into prompt action by setting up a committee to look into issues around the increase in the price of cooking gas, with a view to identifying and proffering solutions that will drive down the soaring prices of this essential product in the local market.

While the initial strides have been promising and there is transformative potential inherent in the Minister’s crucial 100-day timeframe, challenges persist. Fluctuating global energy prices, geopolitical uncertainties, and the need for sustained policy implementation pose ongoing hurdles. The minister has, however, laid a foundation for economic growth and resilience.

He has earmarked security enhancement and industry-based partnerships as areas that will help drive the Ministry’s vision and his socio-political capital while serving as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Industry, as well as in the Customs Service, National Security and Intelligence, and Power Committees during his time at the National Assembly, will provide him the opportunity for collaborations in the areas of regulatory enforcement and security, as well as for other strategic partnerships that will catalyze the development and industrialization of gas resources.

As the nation looks ahead, whether the focus is on sustainable energy practices, economic growth, or international cooperation, the plans and actions of Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, in his capacity as the Minister of Gas reverberate with a sustained commitment to initiatives that balance energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability; initiatives that will be pivotal in establishing Nigeria as a prominent player in the global energy landscape.

TRIBUTE TO IGNATIUS UDO ADANGA AND MY LANDMARK VISIT TO THE 911 MEMORIAL IN NEW YORK CITY.

By Aniekpeno Mkpanang

Ignatius Udo Adanga was born in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. As a forward-looking young man, he left home for the hustle of Lagos. From there, he moved out on the West African Coast, got to Liberia and hopped over to Germany before migrating from Europe to the United States of America where he finally settled in New York City some two decades ago.

Mr. Adanga's quest for a better life in New York led him through a series of energetic jobs in housing, probation, children's services and finally, the Planning Department of the Metropolitan Transportation Council.

22 years ago on September 11, 2001, without suspecting that it was going to be his last day on earth, Ignatius went to work at his office in the World Trade Center in New York City, USA.
At the close of work that day, the 62 year old sojourner never returned home.

That morning, on the eastern flank of the USA, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners and crashed the first two planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, two of the world's five tallest buildings at that time, killing Ignatius along with 2,995 victims and injuring more than 25,000 others.

Yesterday I followed the tradition of millions of pilgrims from around the world; and visited the September 11 Memorial, to pay my respects to the slain Ignatius Udo Adanga.

The 911 Memorial was designed by Isreali-American Architect, Michael Arad and landscape artist Peter Walker and is located at the World Trade Center site,180 Greenwich Street, Manhattan, New York, being the address of the iconic Twin Towers that were destroyed during the September 11 attacks.

The memorial was planned in the immediate aftermath of the attacks and destruction of the World Trade Center for the 2,996 victims and those involved in rescue and recovery operations.

Titled 'Reflecting Absence', the design features two large square pools on the sunken site with waterfalls cascading into the center, surrounded by 152 bronze parapets that list the names of the victims.

I waded through a vast sea of humbled tourists and grieving family members, relatives and friends who had swooped on the monument to be in communion with the invisible presence of the departed. Many had arrived with fresh flowers, some with free-flowing tears and others like my humble self, with muted phrases of deep grief.

I set out to locate Mr. Adanga's name on this unbelievably tranquill atmospheric grave and was lucky to find it in record time on Panel N-71.

As I ran my fingers on the grooves that bore the letters of his names, I could fathom fully the consequences of terrorism on individual lives and its impact on communities at the local, national, and international levels.

It was coincidental that my visit to the 911 Memorial was the last item on the itinerary of my New York visit.

I will leave for home tomorrow attesting to the triumph of human dignity over human depravity and affirming an unwavering commitment to the fundamental value of human life.

Rest on big brother Ignatius; native of Akwa Abasi Ibom State, Hero of the United States of America.

*IT'S A NEW DAWN & A NEW ERA IN THE CONDUCT OF WASSCE IN NIGERIA*

In line with global best practices, the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) wishes to inform the general public, and all its stakeholders, that it has concluded plans to migrate its WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer Based Examination (CBE).

The innovation will commence with WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 - First Series, which is slated to hold in February 2024. While the Objective Tests will be fully Computer Based, the Essay and Test of Practical papers will be hybrid, in which the examination questions will be delivered on screen and candidates required to write answers on the answer booklets given to them.
Furthermore, the examination will be conducted in urban centres/cities and candidates with special needs have been factored into the plan.

Registration for the examination will commence on Monday, December 18, 2023. In order to enable candidates to familiarise themselves with the new examination platform, arrangements have been concluded for a Mock Examination to be conducted in February 2024, before the examination commences.

To this end, the Council implores all prospective candidates to hone their computer skills and be fully prepared to embrace this innovation. As Africa's foremost examining body, providing qualitative and reliable educational assessment, encouraging academic and moral excellence, it is the vision of the Council that in the near future, all its examinations will be delivered via the computer.

MY ENCOUNTER WITH MR IBU AFTER AMPUTATION...ACTOR INOJIE

Actor-Producer, Director, Charles Inojie wrote about Mr Ibu...

"MR IBU... THE INDOMITABLE HUMORIST!

I never thought I could ever be able to relate this chapter of my encounter with Mr Ibu on his sick bed because I had this funny feeling that it had the potential of making light of a very dire situation as his condition presented. Well, the enigmatic humour monger himself, Ali Baba, has given me a soft landing to go ahead.

I walked into his private ward in the ICU in the company of Chinyere Wilfred at whose behest we made the journey to Ever Care where he is being treated. We had just finished from a set, and she suggested that we take the opportunity to visit Ibu. With us were Jasmine, Mrs Ibu, and a woman I believe is her friend.

As soon as we stepped into the room, his eyes lit up, and he retorted:

IBU: "Idiot, what are you doing here?"

ME: "Mumu, why you carry your leg go give mallam to dey cut?"

IBU: "I get sense?"

He would go on to quibble a few friendly banters with Chinyere. In fact, suffice to say that if a total stranger walked into that room that minute, he would never be able to tell who, indeed, was the patient.

From one joke to the other, Ibu literally entertained us. For a moment, i peered into his eyes as if searching for the secret of his willpower, and again, he levelled me out.

IBU: "You dey pity for me? No fear, the doctor say I go fit still use the leg later, even though some betta-betta meat don commot for the leg."

You could never stop wondering where he got the strength under such agonising pain to exude such positive energy so effortlessly.

Then came the moment. I picked his hands from his sides and held them tightly as I muttered,
"Let's pray."

We gazed intently at each other and connected on the fading highways of nostalgia, and upon the instance, I felt a mad rush of hot tears welling up beneath my quivering eyelids. I quickly turned away for fear my animal weakness was threatening to have the better of me, but too late. Ibu was crying, too!

We prayed and cried freely and came to, unconsoled. He wiped his eyes as I did mine, and out of the blues, the Ibu in him reared its head again.

IBU: "Idiot, you go dey cry. Wetin dey beat you?"

ME: "Mumu, you no cry?"

IBU: "Na as I see you dey cry, na him I say make I support you na."

The two delectable nurses tending him laughed and laughed, and you could tell that Ibu made their jobs so very easy with his ebullient mien.

I left his ward with one of life's vital lessons running through my mind... WHOEVER CAN MUSTER THE WILLPOWER TO SURVIVE IN THE FACE OF ANGUISH AND LIFE THREATENING PAIN, CAN DEFEAT DEATH EVEN IN THE MOST FIERCESOME BATTLE.

May God Almighty grant Ibu a speedy recovery."

Ekpo seeks private sector collaboration in deepening LPG utilisation

Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo has solicited the cooperation of private sector investors in deepening the utilisation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Nigeria.

The minister stated this in a speech at the 13th Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) Conference and Exhibition in Abuja on Tuesday tasking investors and other stakeholders in the industry to address the energy transition gap with a sense of urgency and strategic direction.

In a statement by his spokesman, Louis Ibah, the minister lauded the NLPGA for demonstrating unwavering dedication to the promotion of LPG as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation.

Ekpo also pledged the commitment of the Federal Government in creating a conducive environment to support investments and innovations in the LPG sector.

"Our focus is on harnessing the potential of LPG in transforming the transportation sector through the wider adoption and use of autogas, creating divest fuel options for domestic generators, stimulating growth in agriculture, and protecting our environment from deforestation," he said.

According to the minister, the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a cleaner, more efficient fuel for vehicles is a practical step toward reducing carbon footprint and managing the environmental impact of the country's transport sector.

"We are also cognizant of the need to explore innovative approaches to LPG utilization in power generation, providing a reliable and sustainable energy source for millions of Nigerians currently dependent on less eco-friendly fuels," he said.

Ekpo said in agriculture, LPG can play a transformative role in reducing deforestation associated with traditional biomass use and providing a cleaner alternative for agro-processing, thereby contributing to food security and rural development.

Dele Momodu to Rufai Oseni

“I have read a lot of articles, essays, comments and commentaries about Rufai Oseni's style of interviewing guests on ARISE NEWS TELEVISION...

Majority of them have been quite venomous and downright acerbic... Does he deserve to be criticised? Why not? All of us who criticise others should expect people to get angry every now and then, but I don't expect them to get so abusive. Anyway.

I'm a big fan of Rufai Oseni, warts and all. And the reason is simple. It is about his intellectual prowess. He is sound and confident. His style is unique to him and it fascinates or irritates his critics and admirers differently.

I'm writing this to encourage him. He should remain brilliant and focused 💯. GOD bless him mightily...”
