Growing up, before the rascality in the economy that has rendered almost every commodity unaffordable, beans, and bread used to be one of the best, and cheapest combo for secondary school students.
Unlike what it's now, when those living below average eat in order to quench hunger, we ate to stay nourished, and for proper functioning of our systems.
I wish the hands of time could be turned back to when I'd buy this from Iya Mensah, the Togoless woman whose stall was just a few meteres away from my school, who as if had developed special interest in me would load the plastic plate to the brim with the unbranded bread (Agege bread) wrapped in a black polythene bag,and a very chilled sachet water, all for N250.
This I ate as breakfast, and lunch and sometimes even have a leftover which I would share with my fellow students.
It's quite pitiful, and warrisom to see this same quantity of food which was sold for such price few years ago, now amounting to thousands of naira with lesser quality, and quantity.
How we got to this level, I can't tell, but one thing is certain, we shall survive this hard time.
