THE VALUE OF SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT
APOSTLE JOSHUA SELMAN
Most people do not know that to fulfill our kingdom assignments and to advance the kingdom in general, skill and human abilities can only take us so far. There is a limit to which skill can go. This is where the supernatural comes in. Luke 24:49, Jesus was speaking to His disciples and He urged them to tarry until they were endowed with power. Jesus who was speaking to them had already given to them information but He said that is not enough. You tarry until you are endowed with power. You need more than a message, you need more than an ability; you need power.
Most believers have the message but they do not have the power to back and to validate the speakings they have been given. In Acts 4:33, the Bible says, and with great power gave the Apostles witness of the Lord Jesus and great grace was upon them all.
I have learnt that your Christian experience will be a cycle of pain if you ignore the value of spiritual empowerment. You do not have to be a preacher to desire spiritual empowerment. You cannot produce Godโs dimension of results using the strength of the flesh. It says by thee I can run through a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall. How do you run through a troop as one man? Ask the mighty men of David. He stood in one position and brought down 800 men with a sword and the sword refuse to leave his hand. Do not downplay what the power of the Holy Spirit can do in the lives of ordinary men. We may not seem like much in ourselves but not after the power comes. Jesus recommended the endowment of power to the disciples who will later become Apostles. He said Tarry. And then the Bible says now when the day of Pentecost was fully come, suddenly, the Bible says there was a mighty rushing wind, a sound from heaven and power came.
Listen, ministry is going to be frustrating if you do not value spiritual empowerment. Let me tell you the truth: it takes power to be wealthy. Itโs called the power to be wealthy. Not just the common sense to get wealth. It takes more than a right mind to be blessed. It takes power to ward off the arsenals of darkness over your family that seeks to destroy everybody.
Value and go after spiritual empowerment!

TRAINING PRODUCES MASTERY

Training is very important. Training produces mastery. This is not just a spiritual concept. Masters are people who have submitted themselves over an extended period of time to intense training. In Acts 2:42, we saw this pattern, the Bible says, they continued steadfastly in the Apostleโs doctrine and fellowship and breaking of bread and in prayers. What was the results? Vs 43 and 44 says, and fear came upon every soul and many wonders were done by the Apostles. And all that believed had all things together in common.
Imagine if the believers got saved and everybody was freelancing his knowledge, there will be serious confusion among the body of Christ. It was that their coming together to be methodically trained by these chief Apostles was what produced synergy in their understanding.
You never attain unto a state of mastery in the Spirit until and unless you are trained. Training exposes you to the knowledge required for victory while minimizing error and waste. The value of training is that it distills the knowledge that is useful and minimizes if not totally avoiding error and waste. That means, it immediately suggests that there are many spiritual information that are useless as far as the overall excelling of the believer is concerned. Just because it is spiritual does not mean it is needed in your life. The Bible has a concise capture of the kind of knowledge you need to learn God and to live a victorious life. But the spiritual information found in the Bible is not the only spiritual information that exists in the spirit realm. You can route through other channels and at the end of it they will produce something else but not God. There are many other books that are written and are still written, spiritual in context but as far as the knowledge of God is concerned and your overall excellence as a believer is concerned, that knowledge is absolutely useless.
When you begin a blind pursuit for spiritual things without being trained and guided, chances are excellent you will stumble at a lot of spiritual information that will wow you and for many years you will pride in the accumulation of these information except that you will not sustain the power to administer life. The Bible says, ever learning but not coming into the knowledge of the truth. So what did they learn? It means they were learning a lie. It says to be careful what you call light lest it be called darkness.

UNDERSTAND AND ENGAGE THE LAWS OF THE KINGDOM

If you want to contend for mastery, if you want your life to produce high level spiritual excellence you have to understand and engage the laws and the principles of the kingdom. Two very important words. You can understand and fail to engage, you will still not get results. You need to understand, then obtain grace to engage the laws and the principles of the kingdom.
When it has to do with seeing the glory of God revealed in the life of a believer, there is always a part you have to play. Every kind of Christian practice that makes the outcome of your life absolutely dependent on God without any participation from your own end is inaccurate. When it has to with your life and destiny, it is not all up to God and it is not all up to you. Leviticus 9:6, Moses told the people, this is what the LORD hath commanded that ye should do, it says, and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you. You want to see the appearance of the glory, donโt just wish for the glory, there are things to do.
In Exodus 33, Moses asked the LORD for two things: the first was to know the ways of God and the second, show me your glory. So there is a relationship between His ways and His glory. Donโt just ask for His glory, you must know His ways. So seek to understand and engage the laws and principles of the kingdom for an excelling life.

THE SACRIFICE OF ABSOLUTE SURRENDER

Most believers wants to gain mastery, they want to gain power with God, and they want to excel at extraordinary levels but they violate this very first law. The first law of dominion as far as gaining mastery is concerned is absolute surrender; not just what you do, what you are. You must assume a state and a posture in the spirit where your life is completely surrendered. So when you come forward to what we call giving your life to Christ. In reality, you are not giving your life to Christ, when you come forward to be saved. What you are doing is receiving His life.
Because there is something wrong with that life thatโs why you are coming for another one. So when you really come to Christ, youโre not necessarily giving your life but receiving His life. Now, giving your life to Christ is an activity of surrender that prepares you for service. The Bible now demands that you give your life to Christ if and when you are prepared to be used by the LORD. So giving your life to Christ is an activity for matured believers who desired to be greatly used by God.
Let me assure you, two of you can be believers in the same church, but the possibilities that you command among many other factors will depend on the degree at which you are surrendered. You will never be able to receive the same kind of result with a believer who is yielded and surrendered if and when you are not. You can call the same name of Jesus, you can read the same Bible, itโs the realm of the spirit that will tell you the difference. Paul I know, surrendered, Jesus I know, surrendered. Sons of Scheva, who are you?
The law of total surrender stems from then understanding that all that I am and all that I have belong to Him and that I must lose the ability to tell Him no. this are the details that are captured when you are dealing with the subject of surrender. That any believer who has not lost the ability to tell God no, is not truly yielded. You must consciously as an act of your will, lose the ability to say no to Him. Total Obedience! If He says to go left, you go left. If He says to go right, you go right. Trusting that the one who is giving you that instruction is not out to destroy you. So you can even blindly follow Him knowing that the thoughts which I think towards you says the LORD, are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to bring you a future and an expected end. Most believers are not yielded, they come to God negotiating everything at their terms. They want the power of God at their terms. They want victory at their terms, they want a life of dominion at their terms. When you come to Him, you die to self.

MASTER THE ART OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE!

There is a warfare dimension for longevity. The Bible is very clear as to the fact that Satan and his cohorts using the guise of witchcraft, wizardry, necromancy, sorcerery, activities of dark power that you will continually launch attack against the saints. It says, and I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail over it. Jesus recognizes the presence of the gates of hell. Even Jesus is called the head of principalities and powers. The Bible recognizes their existence. It will be childโs play to just ignore it and believe that without engaging the word through intelligence that buy default those arsenals will not come. Even Jesus said Satan cometh to me and did not find anything.
You must know how to take authority over the spirit of death. You must know how to take authority over infirmity. Over destructions, over wasters. This is the assignment of spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare from a biblical standpoint and from a point of victory is necessary for maintaining your longevity. For as long as you live, you remain a candidate for Satanโs attack. The Bible says, now thanks be to God which causes us always to triumph. Paul said, I desired to come to you once and again but Satan hindered us. Satan is still on earth. The Bible has never told us that his ministry has ended. The Bible tells us that victory over him has been settled but the Bible didnโt say he has been prohibited from doing the things that heโs doing. He still runs to and fro like a roaring lion looking for who to devour. May he not find you in the name of Jesus Christ.
For many of us we are not consistent with our prayer. For other we are consistent but from a standpoint of fear. Listen, you donโt pray to make victory happen, you pray to establish victory that is already in Christ. Nobody prays from a standpoint of weakness and wins. So spiritual warfare for the believer in Christ is about establishing. It is not the prayer that produces the victory. The prayer simply transports that which is finished in Christ and stamps it as a reality upon your life.

HONOR TO PARENTS

Honor to parents is one of the Biblical key that control longevity. Eph. 6:1-3 says, that children obey your parents in the LORD. Note that it says in the LORD. It didnโt say children obey your parent anyhow, whatever they said, no. In the LORD. That means the parents are not the final say, the word of God is final say. I am an advocate of honor but we need to be careful because many people have been derailed because of this scripture and because it was misunderstood. Obey your parents in the LORD.
Vs. 2-3 says to honor that your days may be long and that it may be well with thee. Listen! The spirit of rebellion and dishonor will always cut short the life of the victim. Unfortunately our generation unless God helps us, corporately, we are beginning to embrace dishonor, itโs beginning to be fashionable. People say it doesnโt matter itโs my life. But you see there are laws.
There are many people today that it is not well with them because they have secured the curses and the ill speaking of parents. And let me tell you, when it has to do with parents, whether they are born again or not, by reason of being parents or being in a position of parent, there is authority that was given to them. They can speak and the realm of the spirit will obey.
Honor still remains a very potent law that is responsible for longevity. Honor your Father and your Mother. Some of you by reason of this teaching, you may need to call even if it is your physical parents and tell them am sorry. The other day I was angry, I shouted and insulted you. Itโs just my foolishness. I accept that I am just a child. Mama, I am sorry. I desire to live long.

DECLARE THE WORD OF GOD BOLDLY!

Psalm 107:2 says, let the redeemed of the LORD say so. Simple! Can I tell you, bold declarations of faith is part of the ways that we activate the prophetic dimension of scripture. In the name of Jesus there shall be no loss. The Bible says the path of the just shines brighter and brighter and you now personalize it and put your name. In the name of Jesus I declare I do not have a better yesterday, my future will always be better than yesterday, I declare by the power of the word. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so.
Numbers 14:28 says say unto them, as truly as I live saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in my ears so will I do for you. As ye have spoken it says, not as you want... as you have spoken. Since all you have been saying is there is nothing about us, this family we will not rise, you do not know that you have been prophesying negative things. In Hebrews 10:23, the Bible says let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering for He is faithful that promised. What has He told you, He said hold it fast through your profession of faith; told you primarily through scripture. Hold on to them!

WHAT IS LOVE?

Genuine love is the absence of self. All of these you only care about yourself; self, the absence of self is what love is. The moment self is involved there is no love. If Jesus was considering Himself, He wouldnโt have died for man. In fact at some point Jesus was speaking, Father if it be your will let this cup pass over me. Nevertheless, itโs not about what my self wants but about your will being done. So if it was about Jesus, He wouldnโt have died. Genuine love, Agappe is not about you necessarily, of course there is a part that has to do with you, but that primarily itโs the absence of self.
To truly understand this definition, look at parents who will starve themselves to ensure their children go to school. They donโt mind living in one room. There are also people in relationship, you look at the man and the lady so concerned about themselves. There are men also that give but their giving only goes to the one they want to marry. And if they donโt have any connection with you they are not givers. The only reason money leaves their pocket is because there is an interest; an investment where they plan to reap. So even their siblings they canโt give to. It is still self. And most times when that relationship doesnโt work you, you end up hearing statements like, โafter all Iโve done for youโ.
There are many that have met destiny helpers but that you were too self-centered, everything has to be about you, you and you. You entered a manโs house who have been a blessing to you and you canโt look for something to fix in the house. You enter, sit, drink tea and leave the cup there and youโre a young girl, later now you say, aunty, please, what of the money I asked you for? You donโt deserve that money.
What is love? The absence of self.

FIND WHERE IT IS WRITTEN!

The word of God will never profit you until you find where it is written. Have you found where it was written concerning your health? Have you found where it was written concerning your safety? Do not trust any confidence you have if you cannot support it with scripture. What makes you believe that your children are going to be great? I trained them well. You are joking! Go back to scripture. The Bible says, blessed is the man that feareth the LORD; that delighteth greatly in His command. It says, His seed shall be mighty upon earth and the generation of the upright shall be blessed. This is the basis of my confidence. If you believe that even if your child goes from pillar to post, find rest. This word youโve believe will draw him. One day that child will come for Koinonia and as soon as heโs sitting, the power of God will carry him and as he lands like Paul he will hear a voice.
Listen, believers we activate the prophetic dimensions of scripture by first locating where it is written. Everything about your life has a parallel that is written. So the next time you say I donโt know what is happening around my life, it is difficult for the word of God to help you with that kind of confusion. What is the area? Jesus would meet people and say, what should I do for you? What do you want the word of God to do? Apostle Iโve been trusting God for the fruit of the womb and it looks like the Doctors said this and that and that, I know if I meet youโฆ before you meet me, meet the word! Find 2 or 3 scriptures because in the mouth of two or three a matter is established. Find 2 or 3 that talks about your fruitfulness.
Man of God, what makes you believe ministry will prosper? People like me. The first conference I held I saw several people. Hmmmโฆ you donโt know the heart of man. People like anything that starts for the first time. It takes the word to keep it going.

LAY IT DOWN!

The Bible speaking, it says, I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which is committed to Him. He only keeps what is committed to Him (2 Tim. 1:12). If you are too proud to give it to Him, then you manage and handle it yourself. There are many of us carrying luggage in our lives today simply because we have not learnt to lay it down at His feet. โฆand to keep that which is committed to Him. Lord take my life, take my children. It says come unto me ye that are weary and heavy laden, I will give you rest (Matt. 11:28).
There are many loads we are carrying on our heads that are unnecessary. Listen, you can find rest today. Donโt let that pain kill you. Hand over your children. Hand over that financial situation. Someone tales the next two minutes and talk to God. Let it down!
Faithful is He that gave you that business. Faithful is He that gave you that marriage, Faithful is He that gave those children. Will He give you five children and not take care of them? Faithful is He, not just mighty is He. Faithful is HE!

GO FOR LIGHT!

Go for light! You will need higher levels of revelations, higher levels of insight, higher levels of light. This is a weapon for commanding results: Light.
You can know what you don't know right now. Look for it. It's available. What you don't know, you can know it. Make up your mind this hear that I'm going to look for knowledge. I'm going to crave for it. I'll go after it.
For someone, compared to you, time of manifestation, you don't have time again. There is no longer time on your side. You are at the verge of manifestation now. You are no longer a young person. Don't keep pretending you know it when you don't know it. No! There is no time to argue over what you don't know. Drop that ignorance and go for light.
Primarily, greatness is a product of light: revelation, knowledge. Christianity is knowledge based. You'll have to study, you will have to listen like never before. You're in a Taxi, go there with your earphones, ensure you are learning something. This year by any means and every chance you get. Don't allow time to just keep going. There is no more time. For many God is set to announce you; and the only thing might limit you maybe that knowledge deficiency.
Is there anything you don't know about your skill, go for it. Is there anything you don't know about ethics as a minister, go for it this year. Is there anything you don't know about your profession, go for it. Don't just sit back and think certain people are lucky. No, you can create your own luck revelation. There is no way you will be good and people will avoid you. If you know it, people cannot avoid you. Have you not seen people who are good at their skill, people complain they are too expensive but they still patronize them.
Make up your mind this year to become indispensable. Become so good at what you do. They might not like you but here and there they might still have to make do with you.
Tell yourself, everyday I won't sleep until I have studied for one hour. Everyday I won't sleep until I've listen to one tape, watched a video that blesses me.
This year, put on the armor of light.

THE MINISTRY OF DESTINY HELPERS

When it has to do with destiny helpers, these four categories of people you need in your life.
1. DIVINE CONNECTORS
They canโt help but they know who can help you ant they can connect you to that person.
2. MEN OF INFLUENCE
They are willing to invest their credibility and their track record to help you rise.
3. GIFTED PEOPLE
These are the men and women who produce results. Sometimes you need more then kindness, you need results.
4. BURDEN BEARERS
The assignment of a burden bearer is not to move you forward, they are the ones who stop you from going backward.
If you do not have these four categories of people in your life you are in trouble. If you have to pay for everything by yourself you are in trouble even if you are blessed. A day will come money cannot buy anything, you will need the hearts of men. Somebody must believe in you enough to stake their lives. You cannot be a general friend to everybody. Somebody must see you and keep you in the Holy of Holies of their heart. They say let me not hear that this woman has headache, not when am alive. Can anybody make that kind of statement and say, look, no matter what, you can count on me!

BE OPEN TO GODLY COUNSEL.

One of the ways God leads us is through counsel from authorities; especially Spiritual authorities. You can access the leadings of God by opening up yourself to receive counsel from spiritual authorities: Fathers, mentors, elders; men with results and experience. They all form part of this group and they have earn the right to be able to give counsel.
Can I tell you, many people have been saved from disaster because of counsel. Counsel is powerful. There is nobody who should ever outgrow the need to be counseled and this is where the pride of a generation comes in. And then what the Bible calls โvain gloryโ. We feel because I have achieve this and that and that, we are not open to counsel. When you are open to receive counsel then you will access the leadings of God.
Sometimes God will not come directly, it may not be through a dream, it may be through one wise counsel. Open up yourself to counsel; and when you are listening to people who have results counselling you, even if you don't agree, keep quiet. Respect and honor their speakings. You can go back and crosscheck and edit like the Berean but not at the point of counseling. Never sit with someone who has results and be discussing as colleagues, it is foolishness. Don't say I'm a Doctor, we're all Doctors. You just graduated, you are yet to get a job. This man has been a professor of Medicine for 23yrs or maybe before you were born. And here you come trying to discuss and the person is watching you. You know when great people keep quiet and watch you, start praying. Because it means that there's no hope talking to you again.
For someone you have ignored and opportunity to rise because when you sit down with the Great, you sit down with pride and arrogance. A mediocre' world is very small you can go round it in a moment and not see a need to expand your mind. For someone you need to write a list of all the things that are not working in your life and trust God for grace. Why is my business not working? I've been in ministry with integrity and I love the Lord but, don't just say pray for me. If you declare one word is enough. All your foolishness just goes away with one word? You need counsel!

DON'T JUST RESPECT CROWNS, RESPECT SCARS!

Respect failure as much as you respect success. In fact, fear people who have not failed. They are too innocent to counsel you. There is a requisite level of failure you must carry as a badge to balance your understanding in counselling people. Believe me, anybody who comes to you with 100/100 is still a child in the school of success. There is a requisite scar that gives you a balance perspective. Have you failed enough to be able to talk to me?
There are people that have failed enough and they can talk to you.. When they talk to you, they utter from their pain. Their pain has been turned to wisdom. Every sentence is a life lesson. When you find failures who have become successful, respect them beyond the results you see. Don't just respect crowns, respect scars. The wise respect both scars and crowns.
Listen, for someone, your failure is still an asset. Don't throw it. Archive it. It will be one of your qualifiers for your speaking to people tomorrow. One day you will use from that wisdom and mentor and arrogant young man who thinks life is so easy. This is a word of hope for someone. Do not just respect those who have succeeded alone, respect those who have failed. Failure is an asset when you can turn it into power. Paul said let no man trouble me, it is not only anointing that I have, there are scars.
Gentleman don't just look for those who live in mansions, go and look for Mama and let her teach you the secret if happiness in a hut. There is something you will need to learn. Because the money you think will come from the mansion, you will be surprised you don't know the depression and the drugs that surrounds that mansion.
Sometimes you need to learn from both a king and from the slave that is in his palace. There is something the slave an tell you that even the king does not know. The slave is the one who cleans the palace, he knows what he has seen there.
Why will the LORD speak to a young virgin through an angel and says, Mary, you are highly favored. And the next thing that follows that woman is pain, controversies, there was nothing in the life of Mary that I have seen that looked like favor. So God calls scar favor, He calls controversy favor, He calls pain favor.
Listen, you may cry but don't be embarrassed about your failures again. There is glory through the scars. There is something about the speaking of God that until you are at your lowest moment, there is something about the voice of God you cannot hear. There is a pain requirement to hear certain things about God. There is a pain requirement that brings out the clarity and purity of the voice of God.

SUBSCRIBE TO THE LEADING OF GOD!

God only leads followers. It will take beyond being a listener to receive the leadings of the shepherd. You see, when Jesus came in the new testament He says, I am the good shepherd. A shepherd leads sheep. And if you know anything about sheep, the sheep does not have horns. They don't have any external system of defense. The only defense of the sheep is the leadership and the security that the shepherd provides. That means when the shepherd is not there the sheep is exposed to wolves, and all kinds of wild animals.
Listen, it is a dangerous thing to sojourn this earth just using intellect, just using brain work. Your mind is important, your brain is important but the Bible, history and experience has shown that any man who sojourn this complicated destiny not paying attention to the leadings of God will eventually end up in catastrophe.
Many began their walk arrogantly and even to clap for themselves before the journey started. Today many of them have had their heads bent in shame because they've had to learn by pain and experience that when God does not lead you, you will go nowhere even if you think you are moving forward. It is by You that I run through a troop. It is by you that I leap over a wall..(Psalm 18:29)
God is speaking to someone today saying you have been ignoring by voice for a long time and you are already getting to a point where you are exhausting the boundary of God's Mercy. It is dangerous to be at the other side of God's voice because the voice of God is where His power follows. His power will always go the direction of His voice.
There are people in ministry who need to go back and say Father, lead me. I'm tired of assumptions. You have done ten businesses, none of them succeeded. Calm down. What you need is not more capital. What you need is to sit down. Man of God you may need to sit down. Family man you may need to sit down. What is wrong? The Bible in Prov 18:1 says, through desire a man having separated himself seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdomโ. It is okay to not know what is wrong but at least, calm down.
For someone God is speaking to you, you are rushing too much. You are jumping from pillar to post and in your mind you do not believe anything is wrong. You need to sit down. Your life is not going forward. There are family people who need to go and sit down and say why is this home not working?! Son fighting with father. Get up in the morning, husband fighting wife, beating themselves, no... You need to sit down. There is something about the leading of the Spirit we are ignoring.
The good shepherd is calling you. Do not allow your children suffer because of your pride. If you have not got direction, stay with God. He is able to breathe upon the sincerity of your brokenness and speak to you. You can call Him in prayer and He can speak to you.

As a believer and recipient of the miraculous, experiencing the power of God requires two factors: 1. Your Faith โ It takes faith to activate the supernatural. You must have faith that God is capable of solving your problems. 2. The Anointing - The level of God's power at work in His vessel. Every problem requires a certain level of anointing to solve it. Walking with God demands TOTAL SURRENDER regardless of convenience, yet there is such an obsession for a Christianity of convenience in today's world. If you desire the testimony of Enoch, then you must desire to walk with God; walking with God is greater than walking with any institution on earth. The average believer has not yet cultivated intimacy with the Holy Spirit which makes it difficult to draw comfort from His presence because what God should have done for us, we try to get from friends, social media, or money.
