"Despite the outcome at the tribunal, I am proud to say that we had a team of brilliant lawyers who did an outstanding job in proving the case of overvoting during the election. Their dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of democracy have left an indelible mark on our case as we push further."

"Yes, we may have lost the battle at the tribunal, but the war is far from over. Our stolen mandate, our voice, our power, will not be silenced. We will rise from the ashes of this defeat, stronger and more determined than ever before. Today, we must encourage each other to be hopeful, to be relentless in our pursuit of justice, and to keep our faith unwavering."— Kogi SDP Guber Aspirant, Murital Ajaka Reveals Hours After Defeat in Tribunal

BREAKING: Fed Govt sues 36 states at Supreme Court over local govt autonomy

The federal government has sued the thirty-six governors before the Supreme Court to ensure the autonomy of the nation’s local governments.

In the suit, marked SC/CV/343/2024, was filed on May 20, by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) on behalf of the federal government.

The federal government is praying the Apex Court for an order prohibiting state governors from unilateral, arbitrary, and unlawful dissolution of democratically elected leaders for local governments.

It also prayed the Supreme Court for an order permitting the funds standing in the credits of local governments to be directly channelled to them from the federation account in line with the provisions of the Constitution as against the alleged unlawful joint accounts created by governors.

It wanted an order stopping governors from constituting caretaker committees to run the affairs of local governments as against the constitutionally recognized and guaranteed democratic system.

Also, the federal government wants an order of injunction restraining the governors, their agents, and privies from receiving, spending or tampering with funds released from the Federation Account for the benefit of local governments when no democratically elected local government system is put in place in the states.

Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress on Monday blocked the entrance of the headquarters of the Abuka Electricity Distribution Company over the Band A tariff hike.

PUNCH Online reports that workers, under the aegis of the NLC and the TUC, thronged various offices of electricity distribution companies on Monday to protest the Band A tariff hike.

The organised labour commenced the nationwide protests over the electricity tariff hike and removal of subsidy from the power sector by the Federal Government.

The labour action is also expected to lead to the shutdown of the Abuja headquarters of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Ministry of Power and state offices of power distribution companies.

The NERC announced the hike in the electricity tariff for Band A customers at a press briefing in Abuja on April 3, revealing that those affected would pay N225 per kilowatt-hour, up from the previous rate of N68/kWh.

PRESIDENT TINUBU TO LITHIUM INVESTORS: MY GOVERNMENT IS SET TO MAKE NIGERIA THE SOLAR PANEL AND EV BATTERY MANUFACTURING HUB OF AFRICA

President Bola Tinubu has commended the inauguration of Nigeria's largest lithium processing plant in Lafia, Nasarawa State, hailing it as a clear indication of the country's attractiveness for foreign investment.

President Tinubu made the remarks on Friday in Abuja during a meeting with Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, who was accompanied by Mr. Hi Yongwei, Chairman of Avatar New Energy Materials Company Limited, and Mr. Zhenhua Pei, Chairman, Canmax Technologies.

Avatar, a Chinese firm, built the lithium processing plant which produces about 4,000 metric tonnes daily while Canmax Technologies, a renowned Chinese firm responsible for over 30% of global battery material production, announced a new investment of $200 million for another lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State.

Welcoming the inauguration of the plant and the announcement of new investment plans, President Tinubu urged the Chinese firms to prioritize environmental protection, community engagement, and corporate social responsibility initiatives as integral parts of their operations.

''There are other aspects of lithium that you are exploring in the country, especially in battery production. Nigeria is a huge market for solar panels. Africa is a major consumer of solar technologies. I do not see why these panels and batteries cannot be produced here. The labour is cheaper. Our youths are vibrant and skilled. Our people are brilliant and adapt to new technology. The economy is increasingly more vibrant, and Nigeria is dependable. We have the consumption capacity and a surplus of steady-handed citizens with gifted minds and an innate drive to work and produce.

''You must not leave the community in ruins as you explore for our high-grade minerals. You must be concerned with cooperation and always care for the community.

''We are caring partners. We want
