PRESS RELEASE

Governor Adeleke Lifts Curfew on Ifon/Ilobu Communities with Immediate Effect

OSOGBO- 19/12/223 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Sequel to a near perfect semblance of peace and orderliness that has returned to the hitherto warring communities of Ifon and Ilobu in Irepodun local government, Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed that, with effect from tomorrow, Wednesday, the 20th of December, 2023, the curfew imposed on the two communities be lifted forthwith.

A press statement signed to that effect by Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, quoted Governor Ademola Adeleke to have directed that, everybody should go about his or her normal private and business transactions without any hindrance or restriction of any kind in the two communities with effect from tomorrow.

Part of the statement released by Oluomo Alimi reads in part :

"Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has viewed with satisfaction the return of peace to Ifon and Ilobu communities in Irepodun local government area.

"To this end, the curfew earlier imposed by the Executive Governor of Osun state, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in his Executive capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the state is, hereby, lifted with immediate effect beginning from tomorrow, Wednesday, 20th of December, 2023.

"While the Osun State Government truly acknowledges that lasting peace and order may seem to have been restored, a 24 hour surveillance should still be strictly observed and maintained by the eagle eyed joint security task force in the two communities.

"Government uses this opportunity, to once again, thank and appreciate all those, who in one way or the other contributed to the restoration of peace and order, before, during and after the unfortunate communal skirmishes.

"Finally, the Osun State Government wishes all and sundry a merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2023 in advance in the two communities and Osun state at large.

Encomiums As Representative Bamidele Salam Empowers Constituents

In his efforts to aid adequate learning for students in the state, Hon. Bamidele Salam who is representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo federal constituency empowered students in his constituency, with computer systems, and bursary grants.

Bamidele Salam also distributed sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, agricultural disinfectant sprayers, force-ups, portable generators, deep freezers, and bags of rice to women, youths, and members of his constituency.

The organizer of the empowerment program, Bamidele Salam while speaking with newsmen at the distribution program in the country home, Ede on Saturday explained in detail, the motives for the initiative program.

“It’s Part of the obligation I have for my constituency, it’s like a mandate that I have to fulfill because when you are running for an election, you’ll speak to community leaders, professional groups, artisans, traders, interest groups, and at the end of the meeting, one of the things they look forward to, is if you’re able to win the election, you should be able to bring back materials, things that can help them to improve the economy, their well-being, and even income.

“And I’m giving them that commitment, even though I am now there by the grace of God, I should use the privilege, I should use the opportunity. I have to represent them in getting more empowered in their professional businesses and professions and artisanship. And that’s exactly what we’re doing here today by organizing this empowerment Programme for our constituency.

Speaking on government impact in the state, Hon. Salam stated that the state government is doing quite a lot.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke is focusing on infrastructural development by building roads, schools, hospitals, providing water for people and making sure that the critical infrastructures are provided for various communities, so this is what we can do to complement what gover

Rivers State Assembly: PDP Demands INEC to Conduct Fresh Elections in 27 State Constituencies.
…Insists Defected Rivers Lawmakers Automatically Vacated their Seats

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demands that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should immediately commence the process of conducting fresh elections into the 27 State Constituencies in Rivers State which have become vacant by reason of the defection of the 27 former State lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP asserts that by defecting from the PDP, the political Party platform on which they were elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly, the seats of the respective 27 former lawmakers have become vacant by virtue of the provision of Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

For the avoidance of doubt, Section 109 (1) of the 1999 Constitution provides that “a member of a House of Assembly shall vacate his seat in the House if … (g) being a person whose election to the House of Assembly was sponsored by a political Party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that House was elected…”

By reason of the above Constitutional provision and its clear interpretation by the Supreme Court, the 27 defected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have vacated and lost their seats, rights, privileges, recognition and obligations accruable to members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The PDP therefore demands that the Speaker of the Rivers State House Assembly immediately comply with the provision of the Constitution by declaring the seats of the 27 former lawmakers vacant.

In view of the vacancy now exiting in the 27 State Constituencies in Rivers State, the PDP demands that INEC should within the stipulated period under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) conduct fresh election to fill the vacancies.

Our Party cautions that the former lawmakers should stop parading themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly as such would amount to impersonation with serious criminal consequences.

The PDP commends the people of Rivers State for their steadfastness and loyalty to Democracy and Rule of Law especially at this time.

ATIKU HOSTS IPAC, RESTATES HIS COMMITMENT TO THE ENTHRONEMENT OF DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA

•Canvases for merger of the opposition parties to present a formidable front
The National Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (GCON) has been described as the icon of democracy in Nigeria by the delegates of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) who paid him a solidarity visit today in his Abuja residence.
Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation that includes Chief Clement Ojukwu, the National Organizing Secretary of the Labour Party who represented their Chairman, Hon. Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, the Chairman of the Action Alliance, and the chieftains of other parties, Engr. Yabagi Sani who is the National Chairman of IPAC, thanked the former vice president of the country for hosting them and explained that they had come on a solidarity visit.
Expressing his satisfaction with the conduct and the commitment of Atiku to the ideals of democracy, he stated that Atiku has a place in our political history as an icon of democracy. He praised Atiku's Pan-Nigerian attributes, describing him as a detribalized leader who does not discriminate based on tribe or religion.

Addressing the delegation, the PDP National Leader who is also the Waziri of Adamawa thanked them for the visit and for identifying with him. He decried the poor state of affairs in the country since the coming of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regime.

He expressed his readiness to work for the unity of the country at all times and for the uplifting of the fortunes of the citizens of our country, stating that he is not quitting the political stage yet. The former number two citizen of the country advocated the merger of the different political parties to combat the behemoth APC that is hell-bent on turning the country into a one-party state. Atiku noted regrettably that the last general election and the recent off-season elections were the worst in our

Bayelsa, Kogi, Imo Guber: Perish Your Thoughts of Rigging - PDP Tells APC
…Riggers Will Face Legitimate Wrath of the People

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cautions the All Progressives Congress (APC) to perish any iota of thought to rig the Saturday, November 11, 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States as the PDP has mobilized the people of the three States to go to every length allowed by the law to protect their votes.

Our Party restates that it will never allow anybody, no matter how highly placed to manipulate the electoral process in the governorship election in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa States. In fact, our Party states in clear terms that anybody who attempts to rig or manipulate the election in any way may have to deal with the legitimate wrath of the people.

The PDP specifically cautions Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and his puppet candidate, Usman Ododo, to accept their rejection by the people for their abysmal failure in government and get ready to concede defeat on Saturday.

The PDP reaffirms that all indices from several Entrance Polls indicate that the PDP candidates are leading and will sweep the governorship election in the three States. Any electoral trajectory that does not reflect the clear tide of the Will of the people at the Polling Units will be firmly resisted.

In Imo State, the PDP confirms that it has received messages and visits from many prominent Imo State citizens, including major industrialists and businessmen wherein they expressed their support for the PDP Candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

These prominent Imo citizens have also denied their reported support and donation of funds to the APC and its governorship candidate, Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Of course, no well-meaning citizen of Imo State will lend support to Governor Hope Uzodimma whose administration has wrecked the economy of the State, brought untold hardship to the people and turned Imo State into a theater of violence, killings and kidnapping.

Our Party challenges Governor Uzodimma to make public the names of the Imo State citizens he claimed to have donated money to his campaign so that the people can identify the enablers of insecurity and hardship that his administration represents in the last three years.

Meanwhile, the PDP cautions that the delay by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to redeploy the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sylvia Agu, is heightening tension and capable of pushing the people to resort to self-help.

We are in a democracy and INEC must respect the wishes and aspiration of the people and stakeholders in the electoral process. The people of Imo State have spoken clearly in demanding that Prof. Agu must not participate in any capacity whatsoever in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo State, given her antecedents in favouring the APC in previous elections.

The PDP is marching to victory with the people of Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States notwithstanding the antics of the APC.

Kogi guber: INEC begins distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Saturday's elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, November 9, began the distribution of sensitive electoral materials to the headquarters of the 21 local government areas in Kogi state ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll.

The Head of the Department of Voter Education of INEC in Kogi state, Haliru Haruna Sule, disclosed this to our Correspondent in Lokoja.

This is even as security agencies have prioritised patrols in Lokoja to prevent a breach of peace ahead of the elections.

A combined team of men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Nigerian Army were seen carrying out an operation show of force in and around Lokoja, the state capital.

They were riding in 12 security pickup vans loaded with heavily armed personnel.

A visit to the INEC headquarters in Lokoja also showed a beehive of activities as both staff and ad-hoc staff were seen being mobilized to the various local government areas ahead of the elections.

The political atmosphere in Lokoja is generally calm and peaceful. People were seen going about their routine businesses. There was no hindrance to human or vehicular traffic.

Markets and shops are opened and people are seen doing what appeared to be last-minute shopping for groceries and other essential food items to beat the no vehicular movement order that has been placed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Election Day.

Egbetokun had ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states during the governorship elections scheduled to be held on November 11, 2023.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the restriction would be effective from 12:01 am to 6 pm on Saturday in the three states.

Adejobi, however, added that those on e
