*A SAINT IN THE MAKING*

Rev. Fr. Gabriel Wade SDB, was a committed and devout Priest. He was always ready to respond to every spiritual need of the people in any Catholic Church he found himself just at a beckon. As a good Priest, he was always prepared to hear people’s confession as he went about with a very small stole. Most times you would find him in the church busy with one thing or the other, for example setting letters on a special Board to form words that had to do with the readings of the day. Fr. Wade lived austere life, always on a pair of slippers and faded shirt and a pair of trouser. Sharp and intelligent, Al way using historical analogy to drive home his homilies. Yesterday marked his 19th year of Transition. May the good Lord count him among his Saints. Rest on Fr. Gabriel Wade and Pray for us.

Fr Gabriel Wade ( Fr. Mo ti wa, mo ti de)
1. Born in Argentina on June 21st, 1923.
2. Died on April 4th, 2005.
3. Was the first Salesian to set foot in Nigeria on February 22nd, 1982.
4. He was a lover of the scripture.
5. Was extremely punctual.
6. First to open the church's door everyday and ring the bell.
7. Sat at the confessional every morning before morning Mass to hear confession.
8. I knew him in the late 80s with a particular stole which he kept till he died in 2005. A tiny and very old stole, used by him mostly to hear confession.
9. He was a teacher.
10. He prepared lesson notes for all his homilies.
11. He kept attendance for our catechism classes exactly like the school's register.
12. His favorite songs were: Ogo ni f'Olorun loke orun, Eyi ni imole Kristi, Igbagbo ye wa, and Ranti o.
13. Very organised but loved to keep himself at the background. He hardly appeared in group photographs.
14. He spoke very fast, walked very fast, and drove very fast.
15. He sat once in the sacristy while preparing for stations of the cross in 2005, he was very weak, and that was the last time I saw him alive.
16. On the 4th day of April, 2005, he breathed his last.
17. He was buried on the 7th day of April, 2005, at Akure.
18. A saint to be pronounced.
