A woman taking a walk miraculously survived after slipping and plunging 60ft from a clifftop and landing on rocks.

Rebekah Crawford suffered six lumbar spine fractures when she lost her footing on a narrow path near Lamorna Cove, Cornwall, England, and tumbled over the side.

Rescuers managed to reach her on a narrow ledge before a helicopter arrived to fly her to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

Amazed doctors have told her it is rare for anyone to fall so far and survive.

The 37-year-old physiotherapist recounted how she heard her sister’s horrifying screams as she plummeted to the rocks during the family walk in June last year.

Rebekah said: "I was on a narrow bit of path, not much more than a foot width, and my left ankle just twisted and there was absolutely nothing to my left.

"I remember that awful feeling of falling and there was nothing underneath. Then my head hit a slab of rock.

"I didn’t realise at that point that I’d actually fallen 56ft down the cliff. I was trying to claw at the grass.

"My head hit this slab of rock and the noise and the pain – I’ve just never felt anything like it. It went through my whole body."

“I had an empire once. They called me the Hot Dog King. I owned the largest vending company in the history of New York City—with 499 permits. But when the city tried to ban disabled Vietnam veterans from vending in midtown, I fought em’ hard. I got them to reverse the decision. But it upset some powerful people. Mayor Giuliani convinced a handful of idiots on the city council to change the regulations. They took all my permits away, except for one. They carved me out. They beat me so bad. Then my wife had a stroke, and I completely shut down for two years. I couldn’t fight the fights anymore. We lost our home. We were living in a van for awhile. I went from riches to below rags. But I couldn’t just roll over and die. I had to do something to feed my family. So one morning I dusted myself off, borrowed a pushcart from a friend, and headed to one the busiest places in the city— the front steps of The Metropolitan Museum. Now this was some valuable real estate. A permit for that spot would normally run about $650,000 a year. But I wasn’t going to pay a thing. I’m a disabled veteran. I sacrificed for this country, and I’ve got a right to make a living like everyone else. The cops kept giving me warnings. They said I couldn’t set up by the museum. But every time they bothered me— I would move closer, and closer. Until I reached the dead center of the museum. The single greatest spot to sell hot dogs in all of New York City. And I’ve been here for the past fourteen years. I’ve managed to stabilize the household. We make enough in the summer to survive the winter. I’m supporting three generations of Rossi’s with this cart, and I’m not budging. They took me to court and I beat em’ so bad. They’ve taken me to jail. They’ve tried to tow me. For five years I slept in the cart every single night. When they tried passing a law that you can’t sleep in your cart, I started sleeping in my van. I’m guarding this spot with my life. They’re not going to beat me. Not again. I may not be the Hot Dog King anymore, but I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me. I’m coming back. One hot dog at a time.”

The JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, has blamed the coronavirus pandemic for the poor performance of candidates in the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

While appearing on a live programme on a Nigerian Television Authority’s tagged “Weekend File”, Oloyede confirmed that this year’s UTME results were poorer than those of three years ago.

The registrar said the COVID-19 pandemic affected the smooth running of the academic calendar.

He said 99.65 per cent scored 120 marks and above out of the possible 400 in 2021as against 99.80 per cent in 2020.

Oloyede said, “In 2018, it was 99.99 per cent but in 2019 it dropped to 99.92.

Also, in 2020, 69.82 per cent of the total candidates who sat the UTME scored 160 and above but in 2021, it reduced to 65.62 per cent.

“But this is expected. In Nigeria, we think we do not live in a global community. All informed education experts understand why it is so. They knew the point at which we were in the academic calendar before the examination was taken in 2020 and in 2021.

— Call this the chance encounter of a lifetime for a passenger on a flight who needed medical attention. Two Louisiana State University (LSU) second-year medical students jumped to the rescue and saved the passenger’s life.

Heather Duplessis and Lauren Bagneris have been friends since they met at LSU during their undergraduate studies. The pair had always wondered what they would do if they came across someone who needed medical attention. Although they never wished for it to happen, the LSU Health Sciences Center medical students were put to the test in real-time, and they passed with flying colors.

A Slovakian company known as Klein Vision recently completed its inaugural inter-city flight between the Nitra and Bratislava airports. At the end of the 35-minute journey, the vehicle's inventor, professor Stefan Klein, clicked a button to tuck in its wings and drove the car home straight from the tarmac.

The company has been working on its hybrid aircraft for more than 30 years. With 142 successful landings and over 40 hours of test flights under its belt, Klein is convinced that his third prototype is ready to leap past the concept stage. As part of its latest breakthrough, the two-seater AirCar reached a cruising speed of 170km/h, slightly below the max 190km/h. Klein says the car has flown at 8200 ft and achieved steep 45 degree turns as part of its maneuverability testing. Unlike VTOL vehicles, the AirCar requires a runway for takeoff and landing.

The current prototype is equipped with a 160HP BMW engine with a fixed-propeller and a ballistic parachute. Klein has even bigger plans for its follow-up. He claims the 300HP pre-production model will receive the CS-23 aircraft certification for normal, utility, aerobatic and commuter aeroplanes from European aviation regulators, along with an M1 road permit.

In reality, getting there could still prove a challenge. The company will have to tread a fine line between a light aircraft and a more substantial vehicle with health and safety precautions built-in. However, there are signs that regulators are coming round to the idea of flying cars. In the US, the Federal Aviation Administration recently granted Terrafugia's roadable airplane a special certificate in the light sport category (S-LSA), making it legal for flight.

A sneak look into the Ijaw (PART 1)

Historically, it is almost impossible to give a detailed account as to where the Ijaws originated. Speculated to be the descendants of an ancient tribe of Africa known as the ORU. The word ‘Oru’ can be traced to the Egyptian sky god ‘Horus’. The myth explains that the early forefathers of the Ijaw people descended from the sky.

Research validates that the Ijaws are related to the founders of the great Nile Valley Civilization Complex. There are claims by an Ijaw organization that they were the first settlers of what we know now as modern-day Benin.

There are two main groups of Ijaw language, though the tribe as a whole has 9 different but closely related Niger-Congo languages (the world’s third-largest language family). The two major languages spoken by the natives include Western Ijaw (Central Izon)and Eastern Ijaw (Kalabari). The western Ijaw speakers include the (Tuomo clan, Bassan, Boma, Apoi, Egbema) while the eastern Ijaw speakers include (Andoni, Okrika, Ibani and Nkoroo).

Water spirits known as “Owuamapu” are the most well-known deities among the Ijaws. The Ijaws practice a style of divination known as ‘Igbadai (a medium of quizzing recently dead people to discover the cause of death). Ijaw people also practice ritual acculturation, where a non-native from a different tribe goes through certain rites to become Ijaw. The most notable instance of this was “King Jaja of Opobo” who was of Igbo origin.

The Ijaws believe their idols are like humans. That they have both good and bad sides. The Ijaws are said to be one of the first tribes to make contact with the colonialists. Native Ijaw people engage in fishing, farming and trading. Timbers, palm kernels, palm oil and smoked fish are some of the products produced by the people.

Here are 5 ways, among others, to improve your customer service this week (and beyond):⠀

1. Let Customers Get to Know You – If you’re running your business from an unknown location, for instance an online business, it makes you more anonymous. Adding a “face” or an address to your business could help assure customers that you won’t disappear overnight. A little personal information can go a long way, and could minimise concerns of accessibility, trust, or safety.⠀

2. Be Responsive – If a customer can’t contact you when they need to, you could lose them forever. Customers want service, fast. Even if the full answer can’t be delivered immediately, always respond the same day. Keep the customer looped into the process, and make sure they understand everyone is doing their best to ensure issues are being addressed quickly and fully.⠀

3. Accommodate customers – It’s important to accommodate customer needs. Keep in mind that every customer or client is a potential brand ambassador. That is, every interaction can be a selling point or a barrier to attracting more business.⠀

4. Build trust – A client-customer relationship does not need to be strictly platonic. Going the extra mile and showing passion for the client builds loyalty, trust and a longer customer relationship.⠀

5. Special Services – Are there special discounts or services you can offer that your competitors don’t? Can you offer something special for existing customers only? Could your services be considered “luxury”? Offering special treatment to your customers will help them to feel taken care of, and it’s also something they might be willing to pay more for. You could come up with offers and promotions “for new customers only” and also reward customers that have been with you the longest.⠀

— A 77-year-old White Portuguese man implicated in the fatal shooting of a Black actor of Guinean origin was on Monday sentenced to 22 years and nine months in prison by a court in the European country.

According to Reuters, Portuguese authorities determined the July 2020 killing of 39-year-old Bruno Cande by Evaristo Marinho in Avenida de Moscavide was racially motivated. Marinho, a 77-year-old veteran who took up arms for Portugal during the war against its former colony Angola, reportedly hurled racial slurs at Cande before shooting him several times. Some of the abusive words Marinho was said to have told the deceased Black actor before killing him included “go back to your country.”

According to Overthinking - which Is defined as "uncontrollable thoughts in excess" - is a problem that plagues a LOT of people who struggle with depression (and practically everyone who struggles with anxiety). And unfortunately, rather than being a narrow problem that only affects people in a limited way, there are actually 9 different types of overthinking - which as you'll see below, means that it can actually impact you in almost every facet of your life.

Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia's first president and one of the last of the generation of African leaders who fought colonialism, has died aged 97.

Kaunda was admitted to a military hospital in the capital, Lusaka, on Monday suffering from pneumonia. His aides said he did not have Covid-19.

In the 1950s, Kaunda was a key figure in what was then Northern Rhodesia's independence movement from Britain.
He became president following independence in 1964.

“Divide and Rule" policy is the policy under which the rulers divide people in small groups, so they cannot rebel against the state. These policies were followed by many European states in order to colonize developing or underdeveloped countries.

The British used the same policy (During the rule of the region now called Nigeria from 1900 to 1960) different regions were frequently reclassified for administrative purposes. The conflict between the Igbo and Hausa made it easier for the British to consolidate their power in the region.
