Meaning ‘i desire a child’ in the yoruba culture

In the ’90s the black female hairdo constituted a stringent rejection in communities. Black women wore their hair straight, using protective pomade to relax their hair and a heated metal comb to get it straightened. However, maintaining a straight hairstyle came with limitations because black hair only stays straightened until touched by water. Certain routines were avoided to keep a straightened hair including, avoiding the rain, swimming, and washing their hair only before straightening immediately. Society portrayed straightened hair as the definition of healthy hair, beauty, and finesse. Women who couldn’t maintain a straightened hair went out covering up their hair until a movement was created, young black women stormed in with an unusual hairstyle now called afro. This overturned the definition of beauty and spread from one black community to another with many embracing and showing off the natural look of their hair. The new hairstyle became the rave of the moment, proudly black-owned to date. However, this revolution did not unfold easily. The change was met with discrimination from many in society including the black communities.

How Fashion is Exploiting Nigeria Wildlife. ⬇️

This is Kano State in Northern Nigeria, one of several tanneries in the states where leather from animal skin is produced. Nigeria is a major supplier of leather to European and Asian markets, with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group projecting that the industry has the potential to generate over one billion dollars by 2025. While much of the leather produced by the country’s tanneries comes from animals such as goats and sheep what many people don’t know is that several species protected by local and international laws like pythons and crocodiles are also involved in the trade.

Wide varieties and volume of endangered species are being traded and tanned for trade with commercial luxury Brands. There are a few reasons for that, thinking about it from an economic perspective in terms of the exact exotic skins, these are so much more in high demand than the goats and the sheep cross-level. That’s an immediate economic motivation for the standards to want to spend more time and resources and sourcing the more exotic skins as that’s what’s in high demand, but it is feared that if the hunting of these reptiles for commercial use continues this could eventually drive them to extinction.

Experts say there are fewer than 50 Lions left in Nigeria meaning they might become extinct if no urgent actions are taken to protect them. Most of the states lack an enabling law, these species of animals you find the states don’t know the population, they don’t know what species are available, they don’t know the breeding season, the states are supposed to have functional wildlife pockets to regulate hunting activities.

The Tree of Life! 🌴

With its bulbous shape and a canopy that resembles an upside-down root system, the baobab tree is an iconic symbol of the African continent. Its origins are also the stuff of legend…literally.

Along the Zambezi River, some tribes believed that one day their gods became angry, ripped the baobab from the ground, and tossed it up into the air, resulting in its inverted-like appearance.

In another tale, God gifted the baobab to a hyena. However, the hyena felt so repelled by the tree’s already unusual exterior, he shoved it to the ground upturned.

The older a baobab tree gets, the more impressive it becomes. An ancient Baobab can support an entire ecosystem, from the bees and stick insects that reside among its branches, to the antelope and warthogs that delight in its fruit.

In fact, baobabs are considered a keystone species, meaning they play an essential role in local biodiversity.

Native to sub-Saharan Africa, baobabs consist of 9 species. While the African continent is home to two different kinds, six are endemic to Madagascar.

Repost: Japan and African countries share striking cultural similarities. Bantu languages of west, central, east, southern Africa and Japanese can be very phonetically similar. Even with sounds that are less common in Japanese, like the “L” sound, similarities are still there in Chilenge and Zambia’s Chichewa.

In Nigeria, the similarities between Japanese and Igbos extend to their geographical names as well. Take “Ehime”, for instance, which is both a local government area in Imo State, Nigeria and a prefecture in Japan. Beyond geographical names, the two cultures also share the concept of “Chi,” the fundamental life force.

Osaka (Japanese city), Osaka (Igbo name)
Ugo (Japanese town), Ugo (Igbo name)
Iheya (Japanese town), Ihe ya (Igbo phrase meaning somebody’s property)

Edo period in Japan lasted for 260 years until 1868 when it was renamed Tokyo. The original dwellers of Japan were Ainu and Yamato peoples who were racially Asiatic. Until Yayoi warriors arrived, conquered them and named the place EDO. Till today the origins of Yayoi people is still disputed. No Japanese account identifies Yayoi as coming from any part of Asia. Yayoi is an Ainu word for invaders. Is it impossible that a band of Edo warriors (mostly males) conquered the place, took women of the conquered people for wives/concubines and over time their offspring looked exactly like the dominant indigenous population?

History is never truly lost. It just awaits a child of a new age to discover it.
