The President of the Senate, Senator Godswll Akpabio, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice-President Kassim Shetima, Minister of the FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike and other officials at the Presidential flag-off of the commercial operation of Abuja Light Rail.

They also embarked on the symbolic train ride on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, from the World Trade Centre to the Airport.

Lillian Jean Williams, a British expatriate who lived in Nigeria during its independence, penned the lyrics for “Nigeria, we hail thee,” while Frances Berda composed the music. The anthem played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s national identity and unity during the 1960s and late 1970s.

Senate president Godswill Akpabio, his wife, Unoma; Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Akon Eyakenyin; Senator Eteng Williams and Minister of Petroleum(Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, at the closing ceremony of the 60th Anniversary of the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, at the Regina Pacis Auditorium.

The Senate President and the wife were later, honoured as Grand Ambassadors of Communion of Ikot Ekpene Diocese in recognition of their contributions to the propagation of the Christian faith in the Diocese and beyond.

Earier yesterday, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, attended the funeral service in honour of a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Late Hon Akanimo Ernest Edet, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Also in attendance were, Senators Ekong Sampson and Eteng Williams. The Hon Minister of Petroleum (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo and his wife were also in attendance.

The Senate President prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed community leader and charged public office holders to always have the interest of their constituents at heart.
