16/11/2022

Messi: "My 'gift'? I was 4 or 5 years old and I had the same style as I did when I was growing up. My gift kept growing. I always say that it came to me naturally."

Messi: "I grew up with the ball for as long as I can remember. I always played with brothers, cousins... older people. In the neighbourhood, I loved to play."

Messi: "I wanted to play with my brothers and they wouldn't let me. And I used to get very angry... my fights were because of that. My childhood was spent in the street. Nowadays that's very difficult. It was football all day long."

Messi: "At school I was lazy, it was always hard for me. I behaved well, though. I was punished without football and that forced me to do well at school."

Messi: "When I was 7 or 8 I used to watch Newells' matches. I started playing there when I was 8, until I was 12."

Messi: "I started my treatment in Argentina when I was 11. It was a very expensive treatment, but my father, with the job he had, did everything he could to pay for it. It was really complicated."

Messi: "The streets taught me a lot. I left Argentina when I was young, but I learned a lot before I left."

Messi: "At River Plate, I had a trial and they told me to come back. They told me they would pay for my treatment but I had to get permission from Newells. I didn't even try because I knew it was impossible."

Messi: "I was in Barcelona for 15 days doing trials. For me it was spectacular to be at Barça. They gave you clothes, boots... You started training and they gave you a ball so you could warm up on your own. I had never seen anything like that. I was impressed."

Messi: "Personally and in terms of football, coming to Barcelona was an extraordinary change. When I was in Argentina, I only ran but I hardly played with the ball. Then I came to Barcelona and all the training sessions were with the ball."

Messi: "My adaptation at Barcelona? I struggled in the dressing room but once I got on the pitch the problems were over. I missed going out on the street and playing like I used to do it in Argentina."

Messi: "Nowadays it is very difficult for a 10 or 11 year old boy to be in the street playing because of the insecurity on the streets. And now children have many more things like PlayStation, iPad, etc."

Messi: "I think football has changed a lot. It's more difficult to see a player who is different, who is out of the ordinary... Because from a young age you are forced to play in a certain way. And that's the problem."

Messi: "Football is going to be more and more tactical. You can see nowadays that any team can make it difficult for any team without having great players, but playing well tactically and in an organised way. But then it will be more complicated to see 'extraordinary' players."

Messi: "I had a very difficult year. I was six months without being able to play and when I came back, I was injured again."

Messi: "During the last year we were splitting up as a family and it was hard. My father asked me if I wanted to go back to Argentina but I had already done the hardest part. I was already adapted and used to Barcelona. It was a complicated time."

Messi: "I felt it was my fault that I was separated from my family but I couldn't see anything else to do but keep playing football."

Messi: "I was 14 years old when I signed for Barcelona, the first year was already spectacular. The next year I was promoted. In two years I was already training with the first team, with Barça B... it was all very fast."

Messi: "I'm very organized. I like to have everything organized and it bothers me when things happen unexpectedly."

Messi: "Before the Gamper I had already done the preseason with Rijkaard in Asia. At that time, Márquez, Ronaldinho and Eto'o were playing for Barça. That Gamper against Juve changed everything. It changed the look of the club towards me."

Messi: "Ronaldinho, Deco, Motta, Sylvinho, Xavi, Puyol... They all made me feel like one of them from the start. The way they treated me was great. It's not easy to come into a dressing room like that and be able to integrate normally."

Messi: "I told my dad that we had to do something so that people in Argentina knew I was here [at Barça]. I went to two friendlies with the youth teams and they already knew me. I wanted to be there, with the Argentina national team."

Messi: "I started when I was 17-18 years old. I went to the U20s and we won it. At the Olympic Games there was a very good group of boys."

Messi: "I always felt the affection of the Argentines but there was always a part of Argentina that always questioned me. They had opinions about everything I did."

Messi: "After so much, an impressive moment has arrived with the national team. There were so many years and so many disappointments... that's why I cried at this last Copa America."

Messi: "The game against Mourinho's Chelsea was a fight. The pitch was bad, it was a tough game. Barça had already played there the year before. They kicked me a lot."

Messi: "The Guardiola era was an extraordinary period. Everything happened. Guardiola comes in, with what he taught us and made us grow as a team. He found a generation of players that was unique. It was impressive."

Messi: "With Guardiola, we were going to play anywhere and we knew we were going to win, whoever the team was. We knew what to do, how to do it, we knew everything. We had painful defeats, but we were always confident."

Messi: "Guardiola prepared the games like nobody else. He knew everything."

Messi: "I regret not having enjoyed the Guardiola era more, not having enjoyed it more with him."

Messi: "With Guardiola we made things so easy, and it was so natural that we didn't realise what we were doing. As time goes by, you realise it was unique what we achieved."

Messi: "Guardiola is the best coach, I have no doubt. He is special."

Messi: "Pep called me. He was at the Ciudad Deportiva and I was at home. I went and he told me I was going to play as a false nine against Real Madrid.... He told me 'We're going to do this and this'... Henry's goal that day was exactly as he predicted."

Messi: "I always liked having the ball at my feet. I loved having Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets next to me. It was all so much easier."

Messi: "Luis Enrique is very similar to Guardiola. Guardiola has something special but Luis Enrique is similar in the way he prepares and reads the game. He looks for the gaps to hurt the opponent. He had the same philosophy."

Messi: "The Spanish national team is what Luis Enrique wants. Everyone recognises his great work."

Messi: "Luis Enrique was very important for me. I was very happy with him."

Messi: "Luis Enrique and I had an argument but then we sorted it out. I'm a person who says what I think. I have never been false to anyone. I have been wrong a thousand times, and I will continue to be wrong. But we are humans."

Messi: "Being Messi has its negative side. Sometimes I wish I wasn't famous. I don't like being the centre of attention, or feeling that people are looking at me. But I've got used to it."

Messi: "Scaloni has always had a very special personality. He's a very good coach. The best thing about him is his communication and how he manages the group."

Messi: "Scaloni is convinced and doesn't look at what others say. The way he treats the player makes the group what it is today."

Messi: "The time with Maradona as coach was spectacular. We arrived at the World Cup suffering, but I think the whole process was very nice, even though it ended the way it did. It was very good for him too. The way he enjoyed being with us, the day to day."

Messi: "Brazil have great players, they have Ney. They have a good team for the World Cup."

Messi: "Despite the injuries, I think France have a great team for the World Cup."

Messi: "We didn't have many clashes against European teams. I think we're in a good moment but we must not fall into the error of people's madness and believe we're favourites to win the World Cup. We have to be realistic and take it step by step."

Messi: "Spain is a team that is very clear about their style. They make you run, they get the ball out and they have players with a lot of quality. Spain have a lot of it and they play the same way every game, no matter who the opponent is."

Messi: "My family and children are my safe place."

Messi: "I've known Antonella since she was seven. When I came to Barcelona [as a teenager], there was no way to communicate constantly. We spoke once a week, and they were short calls so that it didn't cost a lot of money. But all my life I've had Antonella in my head." 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴

Messi: "I always get advice from my family. They give me their opinion. When I'm with my friends or my family I'm not 'Leo Messi', I'm just another person. My favourite part of the year is when I go to Argentina to spend time with my family, that's the most important thing."

Messi: "I have learned to enjoy things in a different way. Because of my age and the fact that my career it's getting closer and closer to an end. Today I enjoy everything much more, the day-to-day at the club and the national team."

📌 : 30 LAWS OF MILITARY CAREER THAT CAN EQUALLY HELP YOU IN LIFE. - Kano Media

1.) Your rifle and your ammo are more important than your life. Better be dead than lose them.

2.) You can never be the winner in any argument with your superior. Even when you have won.

3.) Every commander needs your advice but not in public.

4.) If there is a competition, don't come first, and don't come last.

5.) Your soldiers are the backbone of your work. Treat them well.

6.) If you offend a higher authority, carry your cross.

7.) If your soldier offends a higher authority, carry his cross.

8.) Remember that the smartest and most intelligent officers often do not get to the top. Only the most loyal ones do.

9.) Don't be deceived. Many commanders do not like eye service.

10.) Never "contest" a woman with your superior. It is the fastest way to die and many have gone that way.

11.) The wife of your superior is either a goldmine or a landmine. If you are not sure of which she is, avoid her.

12.) Be brave. Even if you are a coward.

13.) If your superior admires your girlfriend, surrender her. If he admires your wife, stand by her. A girlfriend is an accolade. An accolade can be lost without dire consequences. Your wife is your crown. You are nothing without her.

14.) Don't ever beg for mercy. It is the foremost manifestation of weakness and the military environment has no respect for weaklings.

15.) Don't ever solicit for "welfare". If you are "issued", be very thankful.

16.) Don't look for your seniors. Let them look for you. If they look for you, don't keep them waiting.

17.) If you don't like a colleague, let him know you don't like him. If he takes steps to warm up to you, don't embrace him. Accommodate him.

18.) A lie is an abomination - and a critical part of initiative.

19.) If you are lucky to have stumbled on "mega" money, maintain your old lifestyle. If you can't maintain your old lifestyle, maintain a low profile. Camouflage and concealment are not only for the warfront. "Shine" is one reason things are seen.

20.) Remember that drinking, smoking and womanizing are prominent features of the job yet, no medals are allocated for them.

21.) Don't look too smart before your superiors. Instead, look stupid before them. People are generally comfortable with stupid people whom they can easily control.

22.) Wait for your time.

23.) Know that the enemy's degree of training is dependent on yours. If he is well trained, then, you are poorly trained. If he is poorly trained, you are well trained.

24.) You are a soldier. Not a priest.

25.) If you are tired of the job, resign.

26.) Never reject a gift from a superior except in protest of a salient point. It is the greatest indirect show of disloyalty.

27.) Be everywhere. Every time.

28.) History never remembers soldiers but Kings, Queens and Politicians.

29.) Remember wars are won by soldiers, but credit go to the generals.

30.) Respect Humanity but don't over trust humans.

Now you know!

TRAVEL BY ✈️✈️✈️: If you travel by air a lot, beware of over friendly chatty seat neighbours

The older lady comes and sits next to me inside the plane. She asked me to help her put her bag in the overhead luggage compartment. But a gentleman sitting across quickly came through. (I am not very tall and the overhead luggage compartment is something I try to avoid at all costs.

Immediately she sits down she strikes up a conversation. She was very pleasant and well spoken. So we chatted all through the flight to Dubai.
Suddenly, when the pilot announced that we were now proceeding to begin our descent into DXB, my good friend 'developed' stomach pains. Me with my good heart, I pressed the stewards button, and the stewardess came to find out what the problem was. I told her my seat mate was not feeling well. And this lady, she suddenly began to address me as 'my daughter'.

The stewardess told me that there was nothing they could do except give her some painkillers and wait until we landed. The pilot announced that we had a medical emergency on board and advised us all to stay calm. My new friend was crying and sweating like crazy. And she refused to let go of my hand... everyone assumed we knew each other.

So we landed at DXB and the same gentleman who helped put up her luggage in the overhead compartment removed her luggage. But as he removed the luggage, he advised me to distance myself from this lady and make it clear to the cabin crew that we were NOT travelling together. He was a godsend!

So indeed, the cabin crew came and asked me if we were related, I categorically told them we had met on the plane. I didn't know her at all. So we began to deplane and as I said goodbye she kept begging me to carry her handbag. I was so torn... but the gentleman looked me in the eye and emphatically shook his head. He passed me a note telling me to let the cabin crew handle her.

So I exit the aircraft and leave my 'new friend' to wait for the wheelchair and be handled by the cabin crew feeling very guilty.

As we waited for our luggage to come through, I hear this commotion. My 'new friend' was running, trying to escape the cabin crew, having gotten out of the wheelchair! She left the stewardess with her handbag and just ran towards the exit with the rest of her hand luggage! Luckily the airport police were faster than her. They got hold of her and brought her back in handcuffs.

This lady starts calling out to me.. my daughter... my daughter!.. how could you do this to me..... that's when I caught on. She was carrying drugs and she was trying to implicate me!

Luckily for me, the gentleman who had helped her with her luggage came forward and told the airport police that me and her had just met on the plane. The police took my passport and asked her to reveal my full names if it was true we were travelling together. By God's grace, I had not even told her my first name! I was still asked to follow the police to a little room where I was questioned extensively. Where did I meet her?... where did I board... where did she board. Etc... And my luggage was extensively searched and dusted for fingerprints.

They dusted all her luggage and my fingerprints were not found anywhere on her luggage or on her handbag!
I was let go with advice never ever to touch anyone's luggage either in flight or at the airport. So from that day, I don't care how much luggage you have, you will deal with it yourself. I will not even offer you a trolley to put your luggage on! Your luggage... your problem.... is my policy. And if you can't reach the overhead compartment, and I am the nearest person, please call the cabin crew because all I will do is give you a blank stare and then look away!

A lesson to glean therein for intending air travele

AT UNGA, PRESIDENT BUHARI RAISES ALARM ON EROSION OF DEMOCRACY IN WEST AFRICA, URGES WORLD LEADERS TO REJECT UNCONSTITUTIONAL TAKEOVERS

The recent trend of unconstitutional takeover of power, sometimes in reaction to unilateral changes of constitutions by some leaders, must not be tolerated by the international community, President Muhammadu Buhari told world leaders Friday in New York.

In his speech at the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, the President warned that democratic gains of the past decades in West Africa ‘‘are now being eroded’’ due to these negative trends.

He affirmed Nigeria’s support to efforts by ECOWAS, AU and the UN to address this growing challenge, saying:

‘‘As leaders of our individual Member-States we need to adhere to the constitutional provisions of our countries, particularly on term limits. This is one area that generates crisis and political tension in our sub-region.’’

The President urged the international community not only to deal with the symptoms of conflict but also the immediate causes that fuel conflicts in the first place.

‘‘These include poor and undemocratic governance, human rights abuses, poverty, ignorance, injustice and inequalities.

‘‘There are no easy solutions to these conditions. They require long term investments and more effective international cooperation. In this connection, my delegation underscores the importance of promoting peaceful, unfettered, and inclusive participation of states in global actions towards conflict prevention.

‘‘This will facilitate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063.”

The President’s speech, delivered from the podium of the General Assembly hall, addressed other matters on the international agenda of interest to Nigeria, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Arms Trade Treaty, climate change, terrorism, anti-corruption, debt suspension, international trade, UN Security Council Reform, Palestinian Question, racial discrimination, among others.

On the issue of debt in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nigerian leader urged G20 countries to extend its debt suspension initiatives to all developing countries, Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States facing fiscal and liquidity challenges.

The President also called for outright debt cancellation for countries facing the most severe challenges:

‘‘Developing countries have been faced with unsustainable debt burdens even before the pandemic

‘‘The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the risk of new wave of deepening debt, where vital public financial resources are allocated to external debt servicing and repayments at the expense of domestic health and financing for critical developmental needs.

‘‘I must commend the current initiatives by the international financial institutions and the G20 aimed at significantly mitigating the economic situation of the indebted countries and urge for more efforts in this regard.

‘‘Therefore, there is an urgent need to consider expansion and extension of the Debt Service Suspension Initiative to include all Developing, Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States facing fiscal and liquidity challenges.

‘‘In addition, a review of the eligibility criteria for debt suspension, including outright cancellation, is needed for countries facing the most severe challenges.’’

The President also used the occasion of the speech to renew his advocacy for equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, outlining steps Nigeria has taken to achieve ‘‘moderate success’’ in containing the virus and halt its deadly onslaught in the country.

‘‘Nigeria remains grateful for the assistance received from our partners and friends all over the world.

‘‘Vaccination is the key to our safe emergence from the pandemic.

‘‘We fully support the COVAX initiative from which we have benefitted. We also thank the United States of America, Turkey, India, China, European Union, and others for the vaccines provided.

‘‘Despite the acknowledgement however, I would like to reiterate my call for a fairer and more equitable distribution of vaccines to all countries so that, together, we can fight and contain the pandemic.

‘‘The rising wave of newer and more contagious strains, makes this even more urgent. No country can afford the socio-economic implications of prolonged shutdown. It is imperative to underscore that no one is safe until everyone is safe,’’ he said.

On Nigeria’s intervention to halt the pandemic, the President said:

‘‘At the outset, we recognised detection and contact tracing to be important tools in combating the virus.

‘‘In this connection, from a mere four laboratories with testing and detection capacities, we ramped up the facilities to over 140 centres today.

‘‘Similarly, we built isolation centres and emergency hospital wards in record time all over the country. We carry out genomic sequencing in designated laboratories across the country with a view to detecting variants in circulation.

‘‘In addition, over 40,000 health care workers have recently been trained on Infection, Prevention and Control measures with the support of various partners.

‘‘Through the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, we have established 16 infectious disease treatment centres located within our Teaching Hospitals and Federal Medical Centres,’’ he said.

On the fight against terrorism, the President told the UN General Assembly that the Nigerian Security Forces have recorded considerable success.

‘‘As a result of the renewed vigour of Nigeria’s military, many terrorist fighters are voluntarily surrendering to our security forces,’’ he said.

The President noted that while terrorism continues to dominate security discourse worldwide, in Nigeria, Boko Haram terrorists group, though fragmented by internal strife and weakened by our defence forces, is still active and preying on soft targets.

‘‘Nigeria will continue to work closely with UN Counter-Terrorism bodies and entities with a view to bringing this scourge to an end, ’’ he said, adding that the country would spare no effort in addressing the challenges of terrorism posed by the activities of Boko Haram in North-East Nigeria and the Lake Chad region, as well as banditry in the North-West and North-Central Nigeria.

‘‘I and three other Nigerian Heads of State served actively as peace keepers and Nigeria continues to support peacekeeping efforts. We know the sacrifice involved; we also know how important peacekeeping is for those in vulnerable situations.

‘‘Nigeria will continue to play its part fully in supporting United Nations peacekeeping operations within Africa and beyond,’’ he said.

On international trade, President Buhari called for reforms that will engender recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, build resilience to future shocks and pursue transformative development strategies that can deliver the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals .

‘‘Nigeria reaffirms that international trade is an engine for development and sustained economic growth, as well as the global eradication of poverty.

‘‘My delegation would like to reaffirm the critical role that a universal, rules-based, open, non-discriminatory and equitable multilateral trading system can play in stimulating economic growth and development.

‘‘Fair and equitable trade would eventually eliminate the need for aid.

‘‘My country and indeed all African countries do not intend to stay indefinitely looking for aid. All we need is a fair and equitable system of international trade,’’ he said.

The Nigerian leader also renewed the call for the reforms of the UN Security Council, stressing that intergovernmental negotiations on the issue was taking too long.

‘‘No reform of the United Nations system is more urgent than that of the Security Council. Stakeholders around the world are asking how such power could be concentrated, with scant representation.

‘‘The intergovernmental negotiations have taken too long, some 15 years.

‘‘We must avoid going in circles. Consensus has been achieved in some of the elements of this reform, especially that of the representation of Africa on the basis of the Elzuwini consensus and the Sirte Declaration.

‘‘It is unreasonable to expect unanimity in this matter. The issue, indeed, is about justice, not unanimity. Without justice, the legitimacy (even efficacy) of our Organization is called to question.

‘‘We can and must make substantial, irreversible progress on Security Council reform in the current session,’’ he said.

On the Palestinian question, the President encouraged Israel and Palestine to re-engage in dialogue based on relevant UN resolutions and Initiatives.

‘‘The two-state solution has the support of the international community and is widely acknowledged as the path to lasting peace,’’ he said.

President Buhari expressed deep concerns at the devastating effects of small arms and weapons, calling for accountability in conventional arms trade.

“Nigeria remains deeply concerned over the illicit trade, transfer, and circulation of small arms and light weapons. Their excessive accumulation and uncontrolled spread in many regions of the world are having devastating humanitarian and socio-economic consequences, especially on the continent of Africa.

“It is on this note that my delegation calls for the world wide application of the Arms Trade Treaty to codify accountability in conventional arms trade, which is critical to the security of nations. This is in recognition of the need for a broad-based global partnership in the on-going battle against trans-border crimes, including terrorism and piracy.”
President Buhari concluded his UN speech at the 76th annual general debate with praise for the outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He also pledged Nigeria’s unalloyed support for multilateralism and faith in the UN as the pre-eminent body for solving current and emerging global challenges.

‘‘Our organization is at the peak of the multilateral system.

‘‘It is also the pre-eminent body for solving our current and emerging challenges, and for developing norms that are protective of us all. We need to re-commit to it, rejuvenate it to better serve us.

‘‘Nigeria re-affirms its faith in the United Nations and is further resolved to continue to work with all Member-States for peace and security, development and the protection of human rights.

‘‘In the current moment, hope for these, is dependent on how we assist each other to get Covid-19 out of all countries, regardless of their classification. We can and must do so.

‘‘In this regard, let me close my statement by paying special tribute to a great and humane internationalist, and an exemplary practitioner of multilateral cooperation. I am speaking of Chancellor Angela Merkel of the Federal Republic of Germany. As she exits the stage, we wish her well,’’ he said.
