Of Enablers, We all

How could a diminutive and viciously passionate sociopath by himself murder over six million humans and throw the world into a genocidal world war? How could an obvious lunatic with all the variegated layers of psychosis imprint upon a nation to the extent that in recent history, his infamy is almost synonymous with the identity of that East African nation? How, one must ask regarding our own political space, could a rustic, despotic and incompetent hypocrite degrade and hold enthralled a nation of over two hundred million people and, succeed in leaving behind a legacy of graft, sleaze and a cult of Nero like fiddlers presiding over our collective slide into contumely? The answer is not just blowing in the wind, it is howling in one word, the word, "enablers". History is marred by and would judge us all to a greater or lesser degree for being enablers of these accidental potentates, by succumbing either to the carrot or the stick.
On the reverse side, is it a wonder that the British up till date are the most emancipated and organized society in human history by virtue of their systematic intolerance of any form of excess in leadership?

SHOUT AT THE DEVIL!

Recently two videos that went viral on the internet caught the writer's attention. These were videos of very prominent Pastors with an impressive following speaking truth or rather more accurately, proposing to speak truth henceforth to the powers that preside over the status quo. Apart from the relevance and truth of these assertions, They also represent perhaps, the birth pangs of not only a new reawakening but also of the mode and means of that anticipated restoration.

The moral leadership of any society is determined by the moral leadership of the church. One may argue for the separation of church and state and, in favour of the clergy not getting involved in politics, but to use that as a premise to excuse the silence of church leadership in the face societal ills and challenges is unsustainable. This is more so in the light of the audience, platform and resources entrusted to them which invariably must be exercised for the benefit and advancement of the larger society. To paraphrase the master Himself, " of what use is table salt if it cannot add to the taste of the soup?".

So as we approach another periodic political transition in 2023, with the fault lines of our body politic and country threatening to implode, we fervently hope to hear more voices from the pulpit shouting at the devils that have accidentally through our collective neglect and ignorance, occupied all our tiers of government and leadership positions, since Lugard had a brainwave over a hundred years ago.
