PRESS RELEASE
POLICE DISMISSES, DE-KITS POLICE INSPECTOR IN VIRAL VIDEO
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed one Mr. Richard Gele, the Police Inspector caught in a viral video dignifying and justifying extortion of members of the public and official corruption which trended from the 25th of July, 2022. The Inspector, with AP/No. 188547, who until his dismissal, was attached to Police Mobile Force 77 Squadron, Okene, Kogi State and deployed to the Itobe – Anyigba Road, for safety of road users and commuters, along the route, where the incident occurred.

The dismissed Inspector who hails from Benue State, was enlisted into the Force in September, 2000. His dismissal came after subjection to internal disciplinary mechanism and being found wanting of the charges levelled against him in line with extant laws governing the conduct of police personnel. The officer has been de-kitted and handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State, for further necessary action.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, while expressing the staunch commitment of his administration at bequeathing policing standards in tandem with international best practices to the nation, warned all personnel to eschew extortion, unprofessionalism, official corruption and other inappropriate acts. Take Your Time To Read This!!! |

Mr. Peter Obi on Channels Television

SEUN: Mr, Peter Obi, Atiku said so many things about you, he said it will take a miracle for you to win the election, what's your take on that?

OBI: well, my Political journey has been a miracle. So many things has happened in my life that people never thought would be possible. In 2003, I contested for the Anambra Governorship election under a party that was just one year old, people said it will take a miracle for me to win the election that year, I Won.

Six months later, I was impeached. I challenged the impeachment in court, people said it will be impossible for me to come back to Office, that no governor has ever come back to office after impeachment, they said it will take a miracle for me to win the case in court, I won the case.

I came back to office and in 2007, an election was conducted and Andy Uba declared the winner. I went to court again to seek for the interpretation of our laws, I told the court that the tenure of a Governor is four years and I should be allowed to finish my tenure, people said it will take miracle for me to win that case, I won.

So my Political journey has been like a miracle and I'm waiting for the bigger miracle to happen in 2023. That's my response to Atiku's statement.

SUEN: Alright, Atiku said that 90% of Northerners are not on social media, so he is not bothered about your popularity online. What's your take on that?

OBI: Well, that's the problem I'm coming to solve as the Nigerian President. I have said it before that the north will be our new oil, i will convert that population to wealth through production. I will invest in education so that those who don't know how to operate the internet in the north will learn how it is done. The North is our new oil.

SEUN: Alright, maybe I should stop talking about what Atiku said and go into other topics but before I do that, I will like to ask you this question. Atiku said you didn't inform him when you left the PDP, is that true?

OBI: Yes, it is true.

SEUN: Why didn't you inform him? As his former running mate, many expected you to inform your former boss before taking that decision.

OBI:. You see Seun, a time will come in a man's life, where he will decide to take a very strong decision about his life and his people, without informing those who are likely to tell him not to take such decision. I have so many important people in my life that I didn't tell that I was going to leave PDP, I didn't even tell my family at that time...I took that decision because it is the best thing to do and I didn't want anybody to distract me...Remember when I left, I told Nigerians that I rather lose doing the right thing, than win doing the wrong thing.

SEUN: How will your security plan be like?

OBI: It will be immediate and desicive.
I will pull people out of poverty, it has been Proven that the more you pull people out of poverty, the more you reduce crime., I will invest in education and military manpower. All options will be on the table.

The 2023 Elections

On May 29th 2007, President Yar'adua took the Oath of Office as president. I monitored proceedings with a friend from Borno state...the son of a late military governor and mother from a certain town in Adamawa. He made a remark...sardonically and with a sneer of disgust...

"Just imagine, if Abiku had been loyal to President Obasanjo, he would have been the one being sworn in today. But his penchant to betray those around him has cost him the presidency; he's extremely arrogant and blind in his arrogance".

The statement was something along that line. We chatted a bit more and must have moved on to other things...

That was 2007.

President Obasanjo went into retirement and published the book about his time in office of which he dedicated a significant portion to the serial betrayal of Mr. Abiku.

By 2011, the Abiku had ported to another party and contested for the presidency against President Jonathan. By then, the character flaw of betraying had become legendary he lost with all his might.

Come 2014, the Abiku had returned to the PDP and had embedded himself into the workings of the party. This individual worked assiduously WITHIN the party to damage the fortunes of a sitting president. The president visited him at his residence in Abuja and he kept the chief executive waiting for over half an hour before he emerged to dismiss him.

At the PDP convention in late 2014, in the full glare of the world, the Abiku betrayed President Jonathan and from that very moment, the destruction of the PDP commenced. The nPDP was formed as a result, and these folks combined efforts with the APC, damaged the sitting president beyond repair, and enthroned the Fu.lani president of the APC. The betrayal of the party and the president by the Abiku was so complete that the PDP never recovered till date!

In 2019, the Abiku appeared once again from his Dubai base and claimed the rights to the party ticket. He claimed he was the only one capable of dethroning the entity he helped install via betrayal. Hapless Nigerians, despite knowing that the man was unfit to be president, rallied him even when he wasn't much loved. What did he do?

INEC declared the incumbent president, and the Abiku quickly traded the ensuing discord for a place in the 2023 elections. Once more, he had betrayed his party and his followers.

The PDP simply suffered a meltdown this time...

Governors Wike and Fayose rallied the PDP and propped it with all their might...they sought funds, rallied members, encouraged folks and tried as much as possible to keep it alive. The opposition was dead. Agitation groups across Nigeria became the official opposition to a riotous and highly irresponsible regime. But there was only so much they could do...Nigeria went downhill at a frenetic pace!

Come 2022, the Abiku of Dubai sauntered in from his home country of the United Arab Emirates and laid claims to the party ticket once more. The Southern elements of the party protested as there was a standing agreement that the ticket be zoned to the South for the 2023 elections. Due to that agreement, the chairmanship of the party had gone to the North and Iyorchia Ayu was already presiding. Against all tenets of the PDP, the Abiku machinery torpedoed the party agreement and the contest was thrown open. Mr. Peter Obi saw that agreements were no longer respected and took a hike immediately! Governor Wike would have none of it and battled the Abiku for the ticket. The Abiku took the party ticket, and kicked Wike in the groin for good measure!

Once more, tye Abiku had betrayed the party, betrayed Southern Nigeria and betrayed the hopes of having a balanced arrangement of power rotation between the North and the South. With thos very action, the whole of Southern Nigeria felt that was one betrayal taken too far...
..and to the trenches, they went! Anything but Atiku!

Now, looking at the character of a man, is Atiku with a life dedicated to betraying everyone, even fit to be a leader talk less of becoming the president of Nigeria? Obviously, if he doesn't betray someone, he might die. If he ever became the President of Nigeria, he would betray Nigeria! With his own mouth, he has said he would sell all national assets to his friends! That alone is the betrayal of the Peoples of Nigeria.

Is that the individual you want as president???

The 2023 Elections

A few hours back, the foremost presidential candidate in the person of Mr. Peter Obi, called on all supporters of the Labour Party whose mandate he bears, to tone it down on the criticism of the other presidential candidates. He thanked all supporters, well-wishers and advocates of the new Nigeria to exercise decorum and engage others with respect, empathy, facts, moral suasion and more. He spoke about the importance of building bridges and appealed that most ordinary Nigerians supported the evolution to a better Nigerian order and supporters should understand and help them to come to the realisation that Nigeria couldn't continue on the current path to destruction.

In our opinion, that was a great intervention from an obviously great leader and unifier! I alongside my team beamed with pride at his request of supporters and wished to express our gratitude at the intervention...

Before the first applause could be raised, supporters appeared with sticks, cudgels, horse whips and even some with stones..

"Oga Obi, make you face the politics, make we face the "vawulence"'!

"Oga Peter, you are not paying us for our support so you don't tell us what to do"!

"Pitobi, na wetin come concern you for our matter with those DisOBIDIENTS na?"

"Mr. Pitobi, there is something called the Division of Labour; face your work make we face our work".

"Senior Obi, na so Oga GEJ do gentleman him no let us react, na so we suffer for 600yrs for APC hand; you have no right to make us suffer again by silencing us"

"Chairman Peter Obi, the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth vawulence and the vawulent taketh it by force"

"Boss Peter, if you tell us not to answer those people again, na your head you go take carry am"!
..and so much more!

Yours Sincerely was about to appeal to the supporters to "tone it down" but as I saw the Principal being shellacked by ordinary citizens, I deduced that wisdom was profitable to direct! Na so I shift one-side to avoid stray bull.ets! If Oga Obi dey collect "gbas gbos" from hin own supporters, na who I come be na? Dem for don carry me do barbecue by now, add am cameroun pepper and Hausa onions join! I fled...

I observed supporters from among the spectrum of the Nigerian constituent nations...o'boy, everyone was represented and they kept shouting that Oga Peter should get a spokesman if need be but he should leave them to battle it out with the DisOBIDIENTS! But of course, it's obvious that Mr. Peter Obi prefers to engage directly with everyone rather than through some aides...that shows he's going to be accessible as president!

Instructive!

In truth, there's serious anger in the land...it is not just palpable but quite many people see the 2023 Elections as the last chance for Nigeria to pull away from the brink, and they have pitched their tents with Mr. Obi to help them get their lives back on track!

Dear Mr. Obi, most people desire a new Nigeria and they believe working with you would get them there; that's quite some responsibility to bear considering how badly damaged the country has been. May the good Lord help you bear this responsibility and bring it to fruition. The supporters are revolutionaries and they believe they're the ones contesting for the presidency with yourself as their agent. In truth, that's the real definition of democracy! Invariably, you must be the servant of the people to lead them and not to rule them as was the old order. The people need leadership...the old order only gave rulership!

Dear supporters, your energy is infectious and the world is paying attention. We understand that the anger is real and the Battle for Nigeria is a reality! Yet, we must engage despite the anger...

A new Nigerian Order is P.O.ssible, go for it and keep engaging with superior arguments. It's always better to jaw-jaw than war-war!

IGBOS ARE TALENTED, GOOD IN BUSINESS BUT AT THE BOTTOM IN POLITICS – KWANKWASO, NNPP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has described South-eastern Nigerians as good businesspeople but poor in politics.
The former Kano governor also said the people of the South-East are well talented but need to learn politics, adding that “in politics, they are at the bottom line”.
Kwankwaso stated this in Gombe State during a visit to Gombe State to inaugurate the state office of NNPP and meet with elected members of the party on Saturday.
There has been pressure on the NNPP and the Labour Party to work together to produce a presidential candidate between them for the 2023 presidential election. Kwankwaso and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party have admitted that the parties have held talks, but the bone of contention is that the two candidates want to be the presidential candidate in the arrangement.
On the choice of his running mate, Kwankwaso said “we have options in the NNPP in the South to pick a good vice president and one of them is the Labour Party man you are talking about.”
He noted that his party had been in talks with the Labour Party for a possible merger but that the decision on who would emerge as the presidential candidate between him and Obi had hindered the progress of the talks.
“From the discussion with Labour Party, the main issue was who becomes the president if the parties merge.

“At the end of the day, some of our representatives thought that there should be criteria in terms of age, qualification, offices held, performance and so on.

“Of course, the other side wouldn’t want that. Most of the people from there believe that presidency has to go there (South-East).

“If now I decide to be vice presidential candidate to anybody in this country; NNPP will collapse because the party is based on what we have built in the last 30 years.

“I served for 17 years as a civil servant; we are talking of 47 years of very serious hard work that is what is rarely holding NNPP now,” he said.
Kwankwaso said the South-East had lost out on the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but had a chance with the NNPP, PM News reports.
According to him, some people are saying “even if my friend (Peter Obi) wants to accept vice presidential candidate, some people in the South East will not accept”. He described that as “not strategic.”
He said Bola Tinubu, who emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC in 2015 supported the party to produce a northerner as the President and “today he is the presidential candidate of the APC.”
According to Kwankwaso, the best option left for the South-East is to partner with NNPP, describing it as “a golden opportunity”.
“If they lose it, it will be a disaster,” he added.
On the chances of the NNPP in the 2023 elections, Kwankwaso said his party had the structure, organisation and population across the country to contest and win elections.

The 2023 Elections

We've been regaled with some criticisms of the supporters of Mr. Obi as being too aggressive or something. While I personally do not think so, it behoves our research team to investigate these claims. The OBIDIENTS were referred to as a Mob by the DisOBIDIENTS but one of the most profound statements was provided Mr. George Asoamaka and he said thus:

"The Mob is acting out their anger and they vested their electoral fate on Peter Obi not their faith in him. Technically the OBIdients are using Peter Obi as their platform to the attainment of the Nigeria they seek...whilst Peter Obi Is banking on them to win the election".

He averred that it is NOT actually Mr. Obi that's running for the presidency but tens of millions of people that are running for the presidency using Mr. Obi as the platform. This was also observed when Mr. Obi's own supporters went after him and tore him to shreds for rendering an apology theu felt was unnecessary. Even we were shocked that his own supporters could take him to task and roundly berated him for a move they didn't support!

Apparently, numerous Nigerians are sufficiently frustrated to take the bull by the horns and dare the Nigerian establishment...through the Obi Phenomenon! The obvious truth about the 2023 Elections is:

"...to sustain the old order where Nigerians had no say in governance or to usher in a new order where the Will of the People shall stand".

The angst of the DisOBIDIENTS is that the OBIDIENTs want to usher in a new way of governance and structure in Nigeria; they are resistant to the obvious paradigm shift playing out before their very eyes and are determined to frustrate the new era in every way possible! The OBIDIENTs would have none of it and are determined to retire the old unworkable system and her proponents in every way possible!

And that's the real issue about the 2023 Elections!

Those that try to play it as an ethnic-based election are really pathetic...though one might hide under some ethnic games to push one's agenda here and there but in all truth, from our observations, this isn't about regional desires but the desire by a vast majority not to leave Nigeria to chance anymore! The elections are less about the Parties now but about ideologies...between the DisOBIDIENTS and the OBIDIENTs...
..and the die is cast now!

Elections have consequences, trust me. And we witnessed it live in the past 7yrs! If in doubt, listen to the program hosted by David Hundeyin on Twitter titled "Lost since 2015" and you shall understand the dangerous fury among Nigerians. In fact, I personally view those that want to retain the old order as being deliberately suicidal in their myopia!

To-Obi or not To-Obi?

News might hav missed```AYO FAYOSE ON PETER OBI PRESIDENCY;

I love Igbos but I have to tell them the truth because I love them.

It is now a law to transmit votes electronically, that means rigging of elections has been reduced drastically.

Igbos are only tribe that have 99% of voters in the South East and second highest voters in other regions in Nigeria.

In the South West, after Yoruba votes, Igbo votes come second. Lagos has the highest number of voters in Nigeria and Igbos are competing with Yorubas in voting power in Lagos.

In the South South, we have indigenous Igbos in the South South and all the major cities in the South South are occupied by Igbos. Go to Port Harcourt you will understand what I mean.

In the North Central, go to Jos and all the state capital in the North Central, Igbos are the second largest population after the indigenous people.

In the North West, go to Kano and Kaduna and you will know that Igbos are the second largest population after indigenous people.

In the North East, go to Maidugri and all the state capitals, Igbos are the second largest tribe after the indigenous people.

Go to federal capital territory Abuja, Igbos are the largest population in Abuja today.

If Igbos truly want to determine who will rule this country today, they will but they only sit back and lament without any action.

Peter Obi is the most qualified candidate to rule this country but Igbos are not with their voters card.

Go and get your PVC today!!!

The 2023 Elections

We've got the following contending for the presidency in Nigeria:

1. Labour Party represented by Peter Obi
2. PDP represented by Abiku Abubakar
3. APC represented by Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Truth be told, Mr. Obi of the Labour Party had been preparing for about 8yrs; he's been giving interviews, symposiums and engaging in numerous fora, engaging the world on the challenges of the Nigerian state and proffering solutions. All the while, he never gave an inkling that he was angling for higher office; he simply engaged and kept discussing issues. For 8yrs and counting, the gentleman was at it...preaching economic development, discussing the impossibility of subsidies, dissecting policy choices and directions, governmental structures and ways to mitigate the numerous challenges!

And the world paid attention!

He had been developing self all the while...and he did all these on his own account without being prompted! On his own budget...he became an enigma and resonated with numerous people across. He was doing a thankless job...

Preparation...

The Jagaban was politicking; installing one janjaweed after the other and NEVER on the side of the people! Not even ONCE did he discuss or engage about rescuing Nigeria but always on brokering power and helping to prop a most-loathed regime he helped install.

Mr. Abiku was lounging in Dubai; he paid no mind to the carnage in Nigeria...he couldn't be bothered! We didn't hear from him all this time save when he pops up occasionally to secure a presidential ticket, waste our time then jet back to Dubai for another 4yrs!

So truth be told, Mr. Obi had been preparing for office for 8 good years while the other persons simply fool.ed around! And this is a fact!

Came the preparations for the 2023 elections, and Mr. Obi was already light years ahead of his contemporaries! In fact, no matter how they campaign, the other candidates could NEVER catch up with 8years of preparation of Mr. Obi in 8 months!

And this is a fact too!

So in the media "war", the APC and the PDP already threw in the towel as we all observe...the only thing they have would now be to strive to reduce Mr. Obi's endorsement capital as much as possible...and this is proving to be an uphill task too!

May I remind you that the governorship outing of Mr. Obi was VERY deliberate; he kept himself clean as he planned for the future! So while others laughed at him for being a technocratic governor, yes gentleman already had a plan...coupled with his engagement series for years, he's way and ahead of the other candidates!

And all these have been unleashed on the polity now, placing the others on the backfoot even to the consternation of the Nigerian "establishment".

In a truth, Mr. Obi is VERY prepared...and the others were sleeping while he built!

As things stand, if the votes should take place today and INEC didn't get involved in rigging, Mr. Obi would win very handily! The challenge now is that he's not the CHOICE of the Establishment but the choice of the People! The conundrum of the Establishment now is that Mr. Abiku is their reluctant choice but how would they carry out this project without the expected backlash?

Mr. Obi is now that ubiquitous fishbone stuck in the throat...one couldn't swallow it nor vomit it! Herein lay a great challenge for the Establishment...and they ask themselves this question:
..To-Obi or not To-Obi?

How My Dad Kicked Against My Music Career - Ozonna Soludo.

Ozonna Soludo, a Nigerian contemporary musician has opened up on how his father and Anambra state governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo kicked against his music career when he first learned about it.

In a recent interview monitored by Oriental Times, the talented singer who studied at the Institute of Contemporary Music, London, and is currently based in New York said he met stiff resistance at first but after a while, his parents later came around to accepting his decision to become a successful musician.

“At first, I was met with resistance but I think my parents understand that I’m quite an unwavering spirit and quite frankly I was going to do it anyway,” he disclosed.

“But yes, I (now) have their blessing. At the end of the day, it’s my life and I’m a very passionate person with very strong ideas about what I want for myself.”

RUNNING MATE: TINUBU PENCILS ZULUM, SHETTIMA, AIDE DEBUNKS MEETING WITH WIKE
Punch reports
The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress for the 2023 election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, may in the next few days name either Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State or his predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his running mate, investigations by Saturday PUNCH have revealed.

With about 12 days to the July 15 deadline for political parties to submit the final names of their presidential candidates and running mates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, it was learnt that Tinubu, after a thorough consultation, settled for the two names.

According to a staunch ally of Tinubu, the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, was also being considered but was eventually dropped, even though he played active roles in the emergence of Tinubu as the candidate of the party.

Sunday PUNCH on June 26 reported that Tinubu, who is currently in France and is expected to return to the country soon to finalise the running mate issue before the deadline, had limited his search to Borno, Kano and Kaduna states, with all the prospective running mates being Muslims.

APC governors from the North-West had intensified moves to ensure the region produced the running mate. The PUNCH reported on Friday that the governors, governorship candidates, ministers and other stakeholders from the zone at a meeting in Kaduna on Thursday expressed their resolve to push their cause, using their voting strength as a tool of negotiation.

But according to the ally, Tinubu would only have to make final consultations to choose between Zulum and Shettima when he returns to the country. Zulum is believed to have a wide acceptance in the North given his record of performance especially in the face of Boko Haram insurgency, while Shettima, an ally of Tinubu, also showed his deep support for his candidacy when he rose in his defence after the Abeokuta (Ogun State) outburst where Tinubu decried attempts to frustrate his bid.

The source said, “The race for the running mate for Asiwaju has been reduced to just two men. They are the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, and his predecessor, Kashim Shettima, who is the senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District. All things being equal, the running mate should emerge between these two men.

He stated, “Yes, it is true that the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, was also being considered. He played an active role in Tinubu’s emergence. His support was one of the surprises among the many people that worked for him. If he (El-Rufai) is picked, he actually deserves it.

“Don’t forget that he is also an influential governor among his colleagues, but I think it is beyond that.”

The source also revealed that “Tinubu is returning to face this issue of a running mate once and for all and he is likely going to see to its end before Sallah, which is July 10.”

Another source, who is a member of the defunct Bola Tinubu for President Campaign and member of the House of Representatives, said the candidate might settle for a governor.

He said, “The position is likely going to a serving governor either from the North-East or the North-West. But I think North-East is being favoured because the zone has yet to produce a President and we need to share the votes from the zone with Vice-President Atiku Abubakar who is from the zone and he is also the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“If we pick Zulum, the noise about a Muslim-Muslim ticket would reduce. I think the Christian community would accept him. He is hard-working and might be considered on merit by the people. Christians won’t mind supporting him. His name would resonate all over.”

Asked if the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, was not being considered, the source answered in the negative. “No, he is not being considered again. He wants it, but he is no longer in the equation,” he added.

The APC presidential candidate had in the interim submitted the name of Ibrahim Kabir Masari as his running mate pending the conclusion of consultations on choosing the substantive running mate for Tinubu.

The likelihood of the party fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket had also generated widespread criticism, with major individuals and groups, like the Christian Association of Nigeria, rejecting the move as a combination that would not stand. But the supporters of the candidate and the party had argued that competence should be prioritised above religion.

‘No France meeting’

Meanwhile, Tinubu’s media aide, Mr Tunde Rahman, on Friday night denied media reports that he (Tinubu) met with the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, in France.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Drainage and Water Resources, Mr Joe Igbokwe, on his page on Thursday said Wike was having a meeting with Tinubu in France.

Igbokwe, a former spokesperson for the APC in Lagos State, wrote, “While they are on social media abusing everybody, Governor Wike goes to France to meet Asiwaju. Abuse, calling names, hate and bigotry are no strategy. They hated and abused PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) since 2015 and now they have transferred the aggression to Asiwaju. We wait and see.”

But in his statement on Friday, Rahman dismissed Igbokwe’s post.

He said, “We have seen a viral social media post made by one of the chieftains of All Progressives Congress in Lagos State and media reports emanating from same about a supposed meeting in France between APC presidential standard-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

“It has become imperative to set the record straight. Although Asiwaju Tinubu is presently in France, he didn’t have any meeting with Governor Wike whether in that country or anywhere whatsoever. This, however, does not detract from the fact that the APC presidential candidate holds Governor Wike in high esteem. And given the national and across-party lines appeal of Asiwaju Tinubu’s candidature, he will not hesitate to meet any important national leader when desirable.”

Rivers PDP speaks

The spokesperson for the PDP in Rivers State, Sydney Gbara, has described as false the reports that Wike travelled to France to meet with Tinubu.

He said, “There is nothing like that. His Excellency went on vacation after working so hard towards the special convention and you saw how he travelled round the country to campaign. It is only natural for a man who has worked that hard to take a little time out to rest.

“He has said it times without number that he is a party man, so, it is out of place for people to begin to insinuate that he would want to have a secret meeting with Tinubu in France or any other place. He is a man who does anything he wants openly. He’s not a pretender.”

Atiku, Wike’s rift

The disagreement that erupted after the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party has yet to abate, as there are indications that Wike is still unhappy with the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The Rivers State chairman of the party, Desmond Akaowor, said only Atiku knew how to end the looming crisis in the party. He noted that the former vice-president would have to decide when he wants to win the election or retain the tag of a candidate.

He said votes from Lagos, Kano and Rivers states were critical for any candidate that would win the election, noting that Atiku could not afford to joke with Rivers State, given Tinubu’s influence in Lagos and the influence of Rabiu Kwankwaso and Ibrahim Shekarau in Kano.

He added, “They inaugurated a committee for the Osun State governorship poll. How many PDP governors out of the 13 were there? Only two. Is it a good sign? We have lost Ekiti, and now Osun is going this way, and we are saying there is no problem. These things have ripple effects.

“When Ojukwu was confronted with the civil war, he said let those who started the war end the war. This means the person who picked Ifeanyi Okowa (as his running mate) should know what to do. Like Governor Ortom (of Benue State) has also reacted; you (Atiku) said you would make a phone call, which means you don’t care.”

He argued that Atiku promised to make Wike his deputy but reneged despite that the committee that was set up recommended the same. “The solution lies with the man who has the yam and the knife. He was the one that made a unilateral decision and only he can give a solution as well,” he added.

A former Commissioner of Information in Rivers State, Mr Ogbonnaya Nwuke, also said reactions from Ortom and former governor Ayo Fayose showed that Wike might not be happy. He warned that if the issue was left unhandled, it would affect the party’s fortunes, noting that Atiku’s neglect of the committee’s recommendation wasn’t helpful.

Nwuke added, “If you are looking at the reaction of his friends who are speaking up, it is obvious that something is not right. Beyond that, only Wike can speak on what his next line of action will be. My view is that the flag bearer of the party is the one who should reach out meaningfully, not hide behind a mask and set up clueless committees. Those things mean nothing. The buck will stop at his table.”

A former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Onueze Okocha, who is an ally of Wike, said Wike remained a loyal party man and would stick with the party no matter what.

Okocha said, “Governor Wike does not need any placation. He has always been a loyal party man. As long as the best interests of the party are protected and preserved, Wike will go along. I can say so on his behalf.

“I don’t think Wike is angry about anything. He has an open mind. He is a politician.”

While advising Atiku, he stated, “Wike is such an important member of the party, so are all others. He should ensure he carries all interests along and makes sure there is some form of consensus building. That is the way political parties make progress.”

Jang, Bafarawa speak

A former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has called on the party’s national leadership to adopt a unified approach in resolving the controversy surrounding the emergence of Okowa as Atiku’s running mate or be ready to face defeat.

In a statement titled ‘2023 elections: PDP must unite or face defeat’ in Jos on Friday, he said it was wrong to neglect Wike when he was recommended by the majority of the selection committee. “You cannot ignore a decision of a committee you set up yourself and expect people to be happy,” he said.

He said further, “While it is no longer news that the presidential primaries have come and gone and a candidate emerged, it is disheartening that the manner in which the vice-presidential candidate emerged is nothing but sheer disregard for processes.

“We cannot disregard people who have dedicated themselves to building the party and expect to make meaningful progress. That such people are treated the way the party is currently doing is a pointer to the fact that more is to come. We cannot fold our hands and watch the party drift away from the tenets which have made it the only truly democratic party in Nigeria.”

Also, a former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, has dismissed alleged cracks in the PDP.

He said since Atiku got the party’s ticket, he represents the party that any internal problem should be solved from within.

He said, “If it happens that you say Ortom and Fayose have left the party, then we have a problem, but in-house we have to sit and everybody will air their views and if there is anything, we will see how we will move forward. But none of them has left the party. Reconciliation is still going on. There is no cause for alarm.”

Speaking on Fayose’s insistence on southern presidency, Bafarawa said, “Go and ask him; he was a member of the zoning committee, he signed the agreement and the committee submitted its report. So, whatever recommendation was taken, he was there and the recommendation was taken to the National Working Committee and National Executive Council.

“So, it is unfortunate for him to come and say that. As far as I am concerned, Fayose, a former governor, is very responsible and he is a good character and I respect him. Nobody has left the party yet for us to say we have a problem. As far as I am concerned, it is a family matter which I believe our presidential candidate has the capacity to resolve under the party leadership.”

Asked to comment on the fact that governors in the PDP seem to be taking a back seat and watching some issues going in the party, Bafarawa said there should be no complaint.

Disregard rumours – Group

The National Publicity Secretary, Atiku Support Organisation, Dr Victor Moses, has said Nigerians should disregard the rumours of Wike defecting to another political party.

According to Moses, Wike is committed to the PDP and will not leave the party, stating that he has a brighter future in the PDP than any other party.

He said, “Governor Nyesom Wike is not leaving the PDP. He is committed and one of the most valuable players of the PDP. I can assure you that Wike as a young man with age on his side has a brighter future in the PDP than in any other party.

“His performance during the recent PDP primaries shows that the future belongs to him. Wike is committed to supporting His Excellency Atiku Abubakar to defeat the APC. Please, ignore the fake news in town.”RUNNING MATE: TINUBU PENCILS ZULUM, SHETTIMA, AIDE DEBUNKS MEETING WITH WIKE
