These persons want to make it big in business or life but they don't want to be stressed.

They prefer soft life but hard rewards.

I call them jokers!

Every big vision comes with a corresponding cross size.

You cannot want a big vision and a small cross.

It was just a prank. A harmless joke. How twenty-eight people ended up dead, I don’t know.

James and I gathered some our course mates together to plan a surprise birthday party for our course rep. We were a close-knit department and our course rep was such a lovable person, so, soon it became a departmental affair. Our course rep and a few loud mouths were the only ones in the dark, everyone was forbidden to tell him anything.

A small committee was formed to handle the plans. Of course, James and I were part of the committee, we were the ones that started the birthday plan. It was during one of the meetings the committee had that James brought up the crazy idea.

At first, everyone was shocked and kicked against it. But he insisted and explained it better and the idea was included in the plans. A little bit of weird entertainment didn’t look like such a bad idea.

13th of April, 2017. That was the day it all went down.

After lectures that Friday, all Mass Communication students flocked Ladybug lodge where our course rep lived. We came with speakers and drinks, nothing fancy, after all, we were just students.

Our course rep, Kelvin smiled in delight, he loved our surprise. His lodge mates joined in the celebration. The compound was bubbling with laughter and music until ‘they’ came. Young guys dressed in red bandannas tied on their heads and wrists.

The atmosphere became tense, people were scared. Cultists were dreaded in UNIZIK

As they headed towards Kelvin, our course rep in a menacing manner, I saw the fear in my other course mates’ eyes, those that weren’t part of the inner committee and I felt like laughing. I couldn’t wait to see them sigh in relief after the ‘red cultists’ announced that they were fake and it was all just a prank.

But first, the plan was to harass our course rep a little and send chills down everyone’s spine as the celebrant was toyed with. That was where everything went wrong.

The guys in red surrounded Kelvin. They kicked him to his knee. Everyone just ‘oooohed’ and ‘ahhhhed’ but only a few people left because the ‘red cultists’ didn’t look armed. People were just anxious to know what problem they had with Kelvin. Curiousity, they say kills the cat.

One of the guys in the red bandanna gave Kelvin a hard knock.

Then it happened.

“Bang!”

That was the next sound we heard. The guy that had given Kelvin the knock fell flat on the floor. Blood gushed out of the gunshot hole in his head.

People screamed and tried to run towards the lodge gate but it had been locked. Two guys stood by it with guns in their hands.

Three more gunshots and people were lying face down on the floor. I was one of them. But I dared to look around. I noticed something. The armed guys were all Kelvin’s lodge mates that had been celebrating with us. Kelvin stood with them, holding a gun handed to him by one of the guys. One of the fake cultists knelt in front of them as an angry Kelvin landed terrifying slaps on his face.

It all made sense to me then. I understood the gravity of our mistake. We had told some guys to act as fake cultists not knowing that Kelvin was a cultist and his cult members lived in the same lodge with him. They must have thought that they were being attacked by a rival cult.

“Oh no!” I muttered under my breath as I shook in fear. Two more gunshots rent the air.

“It was all a prank! It was all just a prank! We aren’t cultists!” The last of the seven guys in red bandanna shouted in fear as one of Kelvin’s neighbour hit his head with the gun. Blows came descending on him. Sticks appeared from nowhere. They beat him to pulp.

Then, another gunshot rent the air.

“Run for your life!” One of the armed guys manning the gate shouted as he opened the gate. Nobody moved a muscle. Everyone was scared. He pointed his gun randomly at those that laid on the floor. He fired two gunshots. Everyone stood up and ran. The cultists fired sporadically at us as we ran. They knew their cover had been blown and they would need to leave the school. So, the random killing was their sort of farewell.

I’m writing this story a day after that horrific event in tears. I’m in James’ house and I just read the note he left beside his lifeless body. I can’t believe that so many innocent people lost their lives due to one person’s desire for revenge. I can’t believe that I and my other course mates allowed ourselves to be manipulated to propagate one person’s hidden agenda.

James’s note revealed that he didn’t bring up the idea of the fake cultists just to entertain everyone, he wanted to use them to get back at Kelvin. He had paid Kelvin to help him settle a lecturer for a course. But it seemed Kelvin squandered his money and never paid the lecturer because James failed the course.

He had been filled with rage and waited for an opportunity to deal with Kelvin as he couldn’t challenge him since their transaction was illegal. He had told some of the fake cultists to deal with Kelvin a little more above what you would expect from a prank. But what he didn’t know was that he was hiring fake cultists to beat up a real cultist.

The guilt of the aftermath of his whole plot, the weight of knowing he was responsible for the death of twenty-eight people pushed him to end his life. A bottle of sniper laid beside his lifeless body.

Tears streamed down my face. I remembered the lifeless bodies. I remembered the blows and the sticks. I remembered the fear. And to think that I played a part in all of it!

I’m done writing the story of how it all happened.

Now, I’m writing what I think will happen in the next few minutes. I can already hear the sound of police siren. I’ll stand up when I’m done writing and I’ll drink the remaining content of Sniper. It won’t seem a fast enough death. The thought of being arrested and having to live with this guilty conscience for years in jail makes me pull at my hair as I cry out.

I rush to Josh’s kitchen. I pick a knife. I stab myself. There’s blood dripping to the floor. The police barge into the room. They see me holding a knife stuck into my stomach. One of them tries to rush towards me.

I black out.

It’s all over.

At least, for me.

A true life story...

How I lost my Android Phone on Sunday and Recovered it

Last Sunday, February 18, 2024, could have been a Black Sunday for me. For the first time in my life, I lost my phone or will I say, I misplaced my phone. It has fallen off my pocket, unknown to me.

Sunday Service has just finished and so I decided to head home with my siblings. We were four. Three boys and one girl. A Ten year old boy and 3 adults.

The four of us decided to enter a Keke Napep headed home. We sat 3 on the Keke back seat. I lapped the 10 years old boy. As we got to our junction, We came down from the Keke. Unknown to me, my phone had fallen off. I didn't realize I had misplaced my phone till I had walked a distance for about 7 minutes. Upon the realization that my phone was missing, I quickly ran back to the junction where we came down from the Keke.

Alas!!! Both the Keke Man and his Keke were no where to be found. I started dialing my number with my younger brother's phone. My phone was ringing but nobody was picking up. I kept calling and calling for hours!! Still nobody picked up. We waited at the junction to see if the Keke would come back to the junction again to drop passengers for about 2 hours, but he never came back. I was so worried 😫. We took another Keke back to church, the initial junction where the Keke Man dropped us, but Omo, we no see the Keke Man.

At that point, I started feeling bad. "My phone just lost, just like that. What carelessness is this!!", I muttered to myself in regret.
Meanwhile, the phone was still ringing but nobody picked up. I and my siblings decided to head home and then keep calling the number from home, hoping that the person with the phone would pick up. Alas!! At exactly 7:30pm, the person with the phone finally picked up!! After about 4+ hours. It was the Keke Man that carried us. He was the one with the phone. He started apologizing and saying all sorts of c**k and bull stories about why he never picked up our calls. Anyways, his story no really concern me. My main happiness was that I had finally found my phone. The Keke Man said his name was Chidi and we should come back to the junction the next morning and collect the phone.

The next morning, I went to the junction with my Junior brother and collected the phone. I gave the Keke Man N2K for not stealing the phone. Maybe I shouldn't have given him any money 🤔🤔. Mind you, the phone in question is a very expensive Redmi phone worth N300k+.

Thank God I found my phone oo. Anyways, I still feel that the Keke Man actually wanted to collect that my phone but later on had a change of heart. What do you think?? 🤔🤔

I couldn't believe my eyes... Yesterday, I was telling her Happy New Year. Today is already February 7, barely 7 days to Valentine. But that's not the reason I'm making this post. The purpose of this post is to encourage you to take reading seriously this year. Invest in buying books. There's alot of Knowledge buried in books. There's a popular quote that says, "If you want to hide something from an African Man, put it inside a book" Infact, I have a confession to make. Growing up, I didn't have a place to hide my money. Because my Aunt back then (before she got married) would always find where I hid it and take it. It happened in several occasion till I came across the quote I stated in the previous paragraph. I discovered my Aunt doesn't read books, so I started hiding my money inside my books😂😂. What a brilliant idea 😂😂. Guess what? It worked 😂😂. My Aunt couldn't find my money again, then I continued saving and lived happily ever after 😂😂. The moral lesson in this my story is to always read books.
