Sin and the Soul Structure I
For any believer seeking God in Spirit and truth, the first impediment he realizes he has to deal with, is sin. He decides to pray, but there's something inside of him antagonistic to prayer, he wants to stop lying, a quick temper, an impure thought and many other acts which are against the laws of God, but before he can think of it, he finds himself committing those very acts he made up his mind against.
In dealing with the issue of sin, it is probably to note that the Bible distinguishes between 'sins' and 'sin' in the New Testament. A careful reading of Romans 1:1-5:11 shoes that the subject matter at hand there is 'sins', while Romans 5:12-8:39 deals with the issue of 'sin'. What does this mean?
This is so because in the first part, the issue at hand are the actions that displease God, which are diverse and many, but in the second part, it is a matter of THE NATURE which produces those actions. Thus, for a believer, in dealing with the issue of sin, the temptation is to look at his actions; the wrong things he does which bring displeasure to God, the sins, but in dealing with sin, God goes beyond the acts (although he has a remedy for our actions, the sins which were will look at another time), to dealing with the NATURE that produces the acts, sin.
