Abducted Baby Sold For N800,000 Rescued in Lagos Market (Photo)

A baby sold for N800,000 after being abducted by a housemaid has been rescued.

According to Gtv-GlobalNews Correspondent Reporter said that the baby was found in a market in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

An X user, , in a now deleted tweets, had on Saturday raised an alarm that a maid hired through an agency absconded with the baby.

The maid identified as Ruth Okezie from Anambra State, reportedly absconded with the baby from the home in Shomolu around 2am on Saturday.

After the report went viral on social media, the maid was said to have been found in Ikorodu, without the baby, where she confessed to selling the baby for N800,000.

In a post on his X handle on Monday morning, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the baby was rescued by the police after she was abandoned in Alade Market in the Shomolu area of the state.

He wrote, “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.

“Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”

Labour Party gubernatorial aspirant Olumide Akpata has said he is committed to the party, even if the upcoming primary election doesn’t go his way.

Speaking on Channels Television’s the former NBA president acknowledged potential irregularities within the party, citing concerns from previous elections.

“There are definitely glitches and I hope that those who superintended over the affairs will go back to the drawing board and ensure that we don’t have a repeat of what we had in those states,” he said.

While noting that these developments called for concern, he said if he was “played out” during the primaries, “I am a democrat and a good sportsman. If I lose, I will go back home.

“Political harlotry is not one of my strong points. I came to this party because I believe in what the party stands for. If some of the operators of the party are behaving in an underhanded manner, that does not mean the party has changed.

“What you do is to ensure that you enthrone leadership that works in tandem with the objectives of the party. The solution is not to jump ship. You are not going to hear of me jumping ship to another party,” he said.

Akpata also said he isn’t endorsed by the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. “Imagine Obi’s position with 28 aspirants,” he explained. “Endorsing one would be unfair. He knows my ambition, but I expect neutrality. He’s a democrat who respects the process.”

Man Set To Marry Three Women Same Day In Benue

A Nigerian identified as Tersugh Aondona is set to marry three women on the same day in Benue State.

According to the invite, the wedding will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, (today) at Lante Kukwagh Comprehensive Secondary School, Jato-Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.

The invite also revealed the names of the wives to be Blessing, Nancy and Sulumshima.

The celebration is to start by 6pm till dawn.

One Harry Nyam, who first announced the wedding on Facebook, wrote, "31st January is finally here. All roads lead to Jato Aka today for our man, Tersugh Aondona AKA Aterry-baba.

"I just got in here and the town looks set to host the biggest weddings ever held in the state. Congrats to you and your wives bro. Very happy women. God when?🥺"

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Sowunmi, has knocked the Federal Government for running the economy on palliatives since the removal of petrol subsidy.

Sowunmi led this out during an interview on Channels Television’s called on the President Bola Tinubu administration to increase workers’ salaries in earnest.

The PDP chieftain decried that the naira is going down and those saddled with fiscal responsibilities don’t know how to stabilise the currency.

He argued that the Nigerian economy should not be built for impressive Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and stock exchange figures or for the applause of global rating bodies like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Sowunmi said: “On the economy, he (Tinubu) needs to let people understand, especially Wale Edun, (Yemi) Cardoso and all of them, he (Tinubu) needs to let them understand that: ‘I am not trying to build an economy solely for GDP so that Bretton Woods organisations such as the World Bank and IMF can be giving me pass marks.

“I am not interested; I am interested in building an economy that is resilience, serves the poor people of Nigerian and give them the opportunity to live the type of life that the Renewed Hope is supposed to be’.

“Let me tell you what would have happened if he had increased salaries of civil servants, they have been getting that increased salaries in a sustained manner, private sector would have followed up to keep their workforce, that money would have gone back into the market and you would have seen the economy growing.

“You can’t run a big economy on palliatives, especially when you are running the palliatives on wholesales and not retail.”

Over 300 divorcees, widows, and indigents have celebrated matrimony in a mass wedding sponsored by the Kebbi State Government.

The wedding which took place at the Abdullahi Fodio palace in Gwandu Emirate, Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, was organised by the state government under Hajia Nafisa Nasir Idris, the governor's wife, through her initiative, the Nafisa Nasir Development Foundation.

Governor Nasir Idris, overseeing the ceremony, encouraged the couples to foster friendship and be confidants to one another.

The governor, who was represented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman-Ankwe, announced plans for periodic mass weddings to unite less privileged individuals as husbands and wives.

The administration allocated N21 million as dowry for the 300 brides from the state's 21 local government areas, with each bride receiving a dowry of N70,000.

The Economic Commission for West Africa States (ECOWAS) says it is yet to receive a formal notification from Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso about their intention to quit the regional bloc. ECOWAS is reacting after the military juntas from the three member states withdrew from the bloc with immediate effect. Pope Francis urged Vatican bureaucrats Thursday to avoid “rigid ideological positions” that prevent them from understanding today’s reality, an appeal made days after he formally allowed priests to bless same-s*x couples in a radical change of Vatican policy.

Francis used his annual Christmas greeting to the Holy See hierarchy to encourage the cardinals, bishops and laypeople who run the Vatican to listen to one another and to others so they can evolve to truly offer service to the Catholic Church.

Speaking in the Hall of Blessings, Francis told them it was important to keep advancing and growing in their understanding of the truth. Fearfully sticking to rules may give the appearance of avoiding problems but only ends up hurting the service that the Vatican Curia is called to give the church, he said.

“Let us remain vigilant against rigid ideological positions that often, under the guise of good intentions, separate us from reality and prevent us from moving forward,"the pope said. "We are called instead to set out and journey, like the Magi, following the light that always desires to lead us on, at times along unexplored paths and new roads.”

Francis’ annual appointment with members of the Vatican hierarchy came the same week he formally approved allowing priests to bless same-s*x couples, as long as such blessings don’t give the impression of a marriage ceremony.

The approval, which Francis had hinted at earlier this year, reversed a 2021 policy by the Vatican’s doctrine office, which flat-out barred such blessings on the grounds that God “does not and cannot bless sin.”

The Vatican holds that gay people must be treated with dignity and respect but that s*xual relations between people of the same s*x is “intrinsically disordered.” Catholic teaching says that marriage is a lifelong union between a man and woman, is part of God’s plan and is intended for the sake of creating new life.

Progressives and advocates for greater LGBTQ+ inclusion in the church hailed Francis' declaration as a long-overdue gesture of welcome and acceptance. Conservatives and traditionalists have blasted it as contrary to biblical teachings about homos*xuality.

Francis didn’t specifically mention the decision Thursday. He kepthis remarks vague and tied to the biblical story of the birth of Christ. Citing the teachings of the modernizing Second Vatican Council, he urged the assembled prelates to listen to one another, discern decisions and then journey forward, without being tied to preconceived prejudices.

“It takes courage to journey, to move forward,” he said. “Sixty years after the council, we are still debating the division between progressives and conservatives. This isn’t difference. The real difference is between lovers and those who have lost that initial passion.”

The annual greeting is a high-profile event to which all Rome-based cardinals are invited. One conspicuous absence this year was Cardinal Angelo Becciu, who was convicted over the weekend of embezzlement in a big financial trial and sentenced to 5½ years in prison. He plans to appeal

In a statement by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu expressed grief over Bello’s demise, saying her legacy in broadcast journalism lives on.

“During her time as the presenter of the flagship ‘NTA Network News at 9’, Nigerians and viewers around the world looked forward to seeing her smile, warmth, and wisdom as she delivered news that can be trusted objectively.

“She mentored many young women who took to broadcasting, mainly by watching and listening to her eloquence, passion, and integrity on the screen, in the newsroom, and off the screen.

“Her legacy in broadcast journalism lives on in the rich news archives she leaves behind and the contributions she made to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria. She brought news to life and will continue to be a beacon to inspire generations in the beautiful art of broadcasting,” the President stated.

President Tinubu prayed God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and comfort for those who mourn.
