Emefiele health challenges
By Adedapo Adesanya

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect.

This was disclosed in a press statement from Mr Willie Bassey, the Director of Information for Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr George Akume, on Friday night.

It was disclosed that the suspension of Mr Emefiele followed an ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor in charge of the Operations Directorate at the apex bank Mr Folashodun Shonubi, who will act as the central bank Governor pending the conclusion of the probe and the reforms.

This marks an end to his stay in the office. He was appointed the CBN chief by former President, Mr Goodluck Jonathan, in 2014 and remained in office all through the eight-year tenure of the immediate past President, Mr Muhammadu Buhari, which ended last month.

President Tinubu had, during his inauguration, castigated the apex bank for how it handled its monetary policies and also promised to unify the multiple foreign regimes in the country as well as lower interest rates.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect.

“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms,” the statement said.

Recall that Mr Emefiele’s predecessor, Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was suspended by Mr Jonathan after he fell out with him over his alarm on alleged missing funds

"You Sound Like Buhari" – Aisha Yesufu Berates Peter Obi Over Comment On Ekweremadu's Alleged Organ Harvesting

Aisha Yesufu, a sociopolitical activist has berated the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for ‘standing with’ the Ike Ekweremadu and his family following their arrest in London over allegations of organ harvesting.

Aisha feels Obi had acted like president Muhammadu Buhari

The former Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu were arrested in the UK for allegedly facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploit them and harvest their organs.

The couple were arraigned before a magistrate in a UK court and subsequently denied bail after their not guilty plea.

And in reaction to the news of the Ekweremmadu’s arrest, Obi in a tweet expressed his sympathies and prayed for their daughter’s healing while calling for justice to take its course.

The LP flagbearer tweeted, “My family and I are with the Ekweremadu’s over their travail. We join all men of goodwill in praying for the healing of their daughter and commit them into God’s hand for justice to be done.”

However, Aisha Yesufu feels Obi’s reaction wasn’t well explained and sounded like one of Buhari’s statements, which she found difficult to interpret for the last seven years.

She wondered why Obi never mentioned the 15-year-old boy involved in the story.

Aisha tweeted, “This is not good! I have spent 7 years getting an explanation from others of what Buhari actually means to say and for others to start doing it again with Obi is absolute BS!

You can stand with the Ekweremadus and also stand with the boy. You can ask for justice for both

“You can feel empathy and sympathy for the girl that is sick and also feel concern for the boy.”
