Friday, April 2, 2021, Navy Commander Kelechi Ndukwe, will make history as the First Igbo and Nigerian-American to take command of a U.S. Navy Guided Missile Destroyer, USS HALSEY (DDG-97).

Commander Ndukwe graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering through Navy ROTC scholarship and earned a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategy from the U.S. Naval War College. His command selection will contribute immensely to our forward deployed forces.

Ndukwe has been recognized with various personal, unit-level, and campaign awards including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

The former Vice-Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi,
In his remarks yesterday during the public presentation of the book “Communication and Media Studies”, has compared Nigeria to a vehicle with a knocked engine, insisting Nigerians should devote more of their energy towards fixing the engine than seeking or concentrating their energy on who becomes the driver.

Mr. Obi, was the Guest of Honour at the presentation of the book edited by Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna.

The decision to recall the former governor was taken on Monday after the 48 hours ultimatum to offer a public apology to Imo State people expired.

The traditional rulers were demanding apology based on what transpired a week ago at Royal Palm Spring Hotel and Apartments (owned by Okorocha's wife), which the state government placed under lock but the ex-governor had gone to unseal without any permission or court injunction.

With heavy hearts we report the death of Mrs. Grace Ifeoma Adichie (nee Odigwe), the mother of renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

She died suddenly on Monday, March 1st, 2021 in Awka, Anambra State. She was 78 years old.

Just eight months after her father's demise, this will no doubt be a heart breaker for the Adichie clan. Our hearts and prayers go to the family.

Hakeem Odumosu, the commissioner of police, told journalists Monday that people were arrested clubbing without respect to the social distancing rule and the wearing of face mask COVID-19 protocol put in place to curb the spread of the virus.

“The ladies and gentlemen were arrested at the early hours of Saturday at Cubana Nightclub for breaching the social distancing rule and there is a viral video to that effect in circulation,” Mr Odumosu said during a press conference at the police command, where the alleged violators were detained.

“They have been arrested for violating the law of the state and the law will take its course.

“They will be charged to court and whatever decision the court takes is what we will comply with,” Mr Odumosu said.

As of the time of this report, a Lagos court has imposed fines and community services on the defaulting fun-seekers.

Tyler Gregory Okonma, a.k.a Tyler the creator, was born on March 6, 1991 in Ladera Heights, California, the son of a Nigerian father with Igbo ancestry and an American mother of mixed African-American and European-Canadian descent.

On May 6, 2019, Okonma released two short video clips on his online profiles which featured new music.
He soon announced his fifth studio album, Igor, which was released on May 17.
Igor was met with widespread critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, becoming Tyler's first number-one album in the United States. The album also features the song "Earfquake", which peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Igor won the award for Best Rap Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards.

We have obtained videos of what appears to be the Nigerian Military battle helicopters patrolling and shooting at what eye witnesses are claiming to be ESN members.

Recall that last month, in the same city Orlu, located in Imo state ( which is under the senatorial zone of Sen. Rochas Okorocha), that members of Eastern Security Network (ESN) which was formed to protect the lives and properties of the Easterners from menacing herdsmen clashed openly with the Nigerian Military on the streets.

Although gunshots can be heard in the video, there is no available explanation for this development as none of the two parties involved have issued any statement as at the time of filing this report.

The traditional ruler of Uzoubi-Umuna in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state, Eze Okereke has been crying to the ear of anyone who cares to listen about his ordeal with men of the Nigerian Police force who he alleged to have reduced him to nothing in front of his subjects and strangers.

The incident was said to have taken place while the officers were enforcing the curfew imposed by the state governor following the clash between Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the Nigerian Military in the state.

U.S BACKS OKONJO-IWEALA FOR DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF WTO

The United States present administration has finally announced its endorsement of former World Bank executive, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the Director General role at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This was disclosed in a statement by the office of trade representatives of the United States.

Mrs Ngozi became the only candidate vying for the position when on Friday 5th February, her last challenger, South Korean Trade Minister, Yoo Myung-hee pulled out of the race.

The South Korean Minister, Ms Yoo admitted through a press statement from Korea’s trade ministry that the decision to withdraw from the race was made after discussions with the United States and other major nations.

Recall that the World Trade Organization members last year voted Mrs Okonjo-Iweala and Ms Yoo to the final stage of the trade body’s leader selection process. Mrs Okonjo-Iweala was the obvious favorite until the Donald Trump led administration denied her their support, which stopped what would have been a smooth consensus.
