President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to vote against governors performing below expectation.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, the President charged Nigerians to hold their governors accountable.

“The people reside in the states. Even if I set up a panel, I will have to go through the governors and the local governments.

“We will continue to talk to the governors. Nigerians must hold them accountable.

“It’s unheard of that in a constitutional democracy, a president will sit here and give orders to states. I can only appeal to them to implement.

A public affairs commentator, Shehu Sani has said Nigerians will soon beg the Federal Government to leave them in poverty.

Sani explained that the poverty they know is better than the unknown.

He was reacting to the Federal Government’s promise to lift Nigerians out of poverty.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, had assured that the Federal Government would lift 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.

Edu said the feat will be achieved through the backing of President Bola Tinubu, different interventions and initiatives meant to reduce poverty.

According to Edu: “What is most important is that we will keep our focus on lifting 133 million Nigerians out of poverty.”

Reacting, the former Kaduna Central Senator, faulted the same promises made by the previous governments.

At least eight worshipers were killed and 25 others sustained injuries as a section of the 150-year-old Zaria Central Mosque collapsed on Friday during prayer session.

The incident, it was learnt, occurred at about 4pm while the worshippers were praying.

One of the survivors, Mallam Shehu Nagari, said the incident happened when they were in the second Sujud of Asr prayer.

According to him, the affected portion of the mosque suddenly collapsed on those sitting directly under it.

Nagari said all he knew was that the affected worshippers were covered by the rubble because the section was built with mud over 150 years ago.

As of the time of filing this report Nagari said he couldn’t ascertain the actual number of victims involved in the incident.

A young nurse, identified as Omoniyi Boluwatife, has been found d£ad with her womb r off in Ibadan, Oyo State.

It was gathered that she was found d£ad on Wednesday, August 9, just two days after she was inducted into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

According to report, the graduate of Lead City University, had gone to a night club to celebrate her induction. However, she was sadly found d£ad the next morning.

She was said to have left her mom, who came from Port Harcourt, Rivers State to celebrate with her, at home before heading to the club.

Governors of the five South-East states met Thursday at the Government House, Enugu, Enugu State.

The governors, who constitute the regional South-East Governors’ Forum, are Alex Otti (Abia), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Dr Peter Mbah (Enugu) and Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo).

Today’s meeting marks the first to be held among the five governors since the inauguration of new governors into office on May 29, 2023.

It was gathered one of the things that would feature prominently on the agenda is the issue of Monday’s sit-at-home in the region and the demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since June 2021.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has told the senators in the Upper Chamber that the clerk of the National Assembly will send some money into their various bank accounts to enable them to enjoy their holiday.

In the video which surfaced online on Wednesday, August 9, Akpabio made the statement before a motion of adjournment was moved at the end of the Senate’s ministerial screening.

He said, “In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly.”

Shortly after, the head of the nation’s upper chamber was alerted by some of his colleagues that the plenary session was live on television.

Akpabio then made another statement to ‘counter’ what he had earlier revealed.

He said, “I withdraw that statement.”

He continued, “In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”

The Senate concluded the screening of 45 out of a total 48 of ministerial nominees that were sent by President Bola Tinubu.

The Nigerian Army killed at least three bandits in a recent confrontation in Kaduna State.

A statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Officer of One Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, Musa Yahaya, confirmed that ‘Operation Whirl Punch’ engaged some bandits during a raid at their hideous in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and killed no fewer than three of them.

According to him, the troops also recovered AK-47 rifles, two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines, and eight motorcycles during the operation.

He added that other items recovered include three locally made magazines, six mobile phones, drugs, and charms.

“During the well-planned and adequately executed operation, troops neutralized three bandits,” the statement said.

Reacting, the General Officer Commanding, One Mechanized Division, Major General BA. Alabi commended the troops for their gallantry and charged them to sustain the tempo and aggressiveness until all the criminal elements were completely eradicated.

Two weeks ago, the Defence Headquarters announced that no fewer than fifty-nine terrorists were killed recently in different operations by troops of the Nigerian Army.

Famous singer, Divine Ikubor, aka Rema has reached yet another milestone in the United States.

He has broken legendary musician, King Sunny Ade’s 41-year-old record as the Nigerian artiste with the longest-running album in the US Billboard 200 chart’s history.

Recall that King Sunny Ade set the record with his critically-acclaimed album, “Juju Music” in 1982 – 18 years before Rema was born.

The album spent 29 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart and was the longest-running Nigerian project in the chart’s history until it was recently displaced by Rema’s debut album ‘Rave & Roses’ which spent a 30th week on the chart this week.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption.

Controversial street hip hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable and his artiste have been attacked in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

Portable made this known in a video shared on his Instagram story on Tuesday.

The singer in a now trending clip on the internet was captured in the company of his crew members.

The singer, who was heard venting his rage, captured his artiste with injuries.

Portable said he went to shop for clothes with his newly signed artiste when they were attacked.

Grammy nominated rapper, Tory Lanez, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, and injuring her feet after a party in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020.

This comes more than seven months after 31-year-old Lanez, was convicted on three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, David Herriford, who handed down the sentence on Tuesday said it was “difficult to reconcile” the kind, charitable person and good father many people described Lanez as being during the sentencing hearing with the person who fired the gun at Megan Thee Stallion.

Grammy Award winning rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, did not attend the sentencing hearing, saying she could not bear to be in the same room as Lanez but wrote a statement that was read in court on Monday, the New York Times reported.

In a statement read by a prosecutor on Monday, Megan Thee Stallion said she had to have surgery to remove bullet fragments.

“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez fired the gun at the back of her feet and shouted for her to dance as she walked away from an SUV in which they had been riding in July 2020, after leaving a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home.

Political activist, Aisha Yesufu has berated President Bola Tinubu over the methods employed in tackling the chaos in the Niger Republic.

Naija News recalls that Tinubu had sought the approval of the senate to take military actions against the embattled country.

However, the lawmakers had refused to grant the president permission and advised on more diplomatic measures.

Speaking on the situation, Yesufu condemned the president for his stringent measures.

She argued that if the Labour Party flag bearer, Peter Obi were president and replicating such measures, he would have come under heavy criticism.

She opined that Tinubu is suffering from inferiority complex, hence his need to always try and prove himself.

The identity of a captain in the Nigerian Army who was shot dead by a female soldier in Adamawa State has been disclosed.

The senior army officer who was killed by a female soldier enforcing a curfew imposed by the state government was identified as Captain Bitrus Sini.

According to SaharaReporters, a military source said the female soldier also identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru Okonkwo had shot Sini who intervened in an altercation between her and civilians at a checkpoint in Yola, the state capital.

The source said Okonkwo had ordered all motorists returning home during the curfew to turn back, but they explained that they were workers on essential duty.

The soldier was said to be adamant despite the explanation given by the passengers which prompted the captain to intervene but unfortunately led to his death.

He said: “Some people stopped at the checkpoint and explained themselves as workers on essential duties, but the female soldier insisted they must turn back.

“A captain came forward to intervene. Unfortunately, she had already cocked her rifle, so she just fired and killed him accidentally.”

It was learnt that the army officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, where he was confirmed dead, while the female soldier was arrested and whisked away by soldiers who arrived at the scene.
