BREAKING: Gunmen Abduct Catholic Priest In Benue

The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, Benue state, has confirmed the abduction of their priest Rev. Father Mark Ojotu.

Fr Ojotu is the Chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga, in Okpokwu Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

A letter from the diocesan secretariat signed by the Chancellor, Joseph Itodo, said Ojotu was kidnapped on Thursday, December, 22nd 2022 at about 5.00 pm along Okpoga-Ojapo Road.

“The Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has called on all Christ’s Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and beyond to earnestly pray for his quick and safe release as we intensify efforts to ensure his release.”The letter read in part

He committed the abducted priest and all those in the kidnappers’ den throughout the country to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy and safe release from the hands of their abductors.

PHOTOS: Driver Dies As Container Falls On Vehicles In Lagos

A commercial bus driver has been confirmed dead as a 40-feet container fell on vehicles at Cele Bus Stop along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos.

In a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Thursday, the passengers inside the commercial bus involved in the accident, were rescued.

Unfortunately, the driver of the commercial bus died on the spot. Two other SUVs were involved in the accident.

Vote individual, not party, Ortom tells Benue electorate.

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, on Thursday signed the N179.5 billion 2023 appropriation bill into law.

The appropriation bill puts recurrent expenditure at N106 billion and N73.5 billion for capital expenditure.

Ortom who signed the bill at the new banquet hall in Government House, Makurdi thanked the Assembly members for their support and speedy work done on the budget and for painstakingly approving and presenting it to the executive.

He said, “We appreciate the 9th Assembly for the synergy and understanding which aided our achievements and victories.”

“Though 2023 is pregnant and loaded, we hope that God will see us through all the challenges we are facing.

“A lot of us are expecting a turnaround, rebranding and refocusing. We as humans have tried but we hope that God himself will rescue us and give us peace, hope and all that will make the coming year enjoyable.”

Speaking on the forthcoming elections, Governor Ortom again urged Benue people to vote for individuals that can be trusted and not according to parties.

He said, “Come 2023, let us work hard and vote according to the election and not according to the party.

“We must know those people who have prospects to help us and the country. Let us be truthful when we sit to consider this and may God direct us.

Earlier, Deputy Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Chris Adaji, while presenting the bill to the Governor, reiterated the commitment of the assembly to make laws for the good governance of the state and the betterment of its people.

He further pledged the support of the assembly to enable the governor to deliver dividends to the people even as he is completing his tenure.
