*Nigerian Military kill 38 bandits, recover arms in Zamfara, Katsina forests – DHQ*

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that the Troops of the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI has killed scores of armed bandits in separate operations conducted in Katsina and Zamfara States.

This was stated in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General John Eneche

Gen Eneche said that the operations in Katsina State included an airstrike executed on Tuesday after intelligence reports indicated that a group of bandits, armed with high calibre weapons, had rustled some cattle and attacked commuters along the Batsari-Jibia Road.

He said that the bandits who were reportedly retreating with the stolen livestock towards Garin Labo, were tracked and located by a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) attack helicopter, as they were heading towards R***a Forest.

According to him, “the helicopter unleashed a heavy barrage of rocket fire on the bandits, killing no fewer than 21 of them, as later confirmed by Human Intelligence sources”.

He added that in a related development, on the same day, an attack helicopter on night armed reconnaissance mission over Tsambre Hill and Dunya Forest in Katsina State spotted another group of armed bandits in the Forest.

He further explained that the bandits were engaged by the helicopter leading to the neutralization of 17 of them while some escaped with gunshot wounds.

He said that the operations in Zamfara State have conducted between Monday and Wednesday respectively sequel to credible human and intelligence reports that led to the identification of the hideouts of bandits terrorizing communities in Konama District of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

He said that consequently, the Air Component dispatched its attack helicopters to engage the bandits’ hideouts at Yan Uku during which several of them were neutralized.

Anambra Youths Hold Clean Up Exercise In Awka And Environs

By Ngozi Obileri ( ABS News)

Even in the face of anger and rage, Anambra youths have shown their loyalty and patriotism by cleaning the streets of Awka after the recent protests in some parts of the state, that led to burnt tyres and other debris littering the streets.

The ‘Let’s Clean Awka’ initiative was championed by Tripple Three Media and some progressive youths.

The exercise kicked off from Dr. Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, to House of Assembly junction by Enugu-Onitsha express road , Arroma junction, Government house, Regina Ceali junction, UNIZIK junction and Eke Awka round about.

The youths were seen sweeping and carting away debris especially burnt tires and keeping the debris at strategic places to be evacuated later.

Speaking to the ABS, the leader of the group Mr Ifeanyichukwu Izundu said they decided to clean up the rubbish to return Awka to its normal look and also to help residents of the city to leave the events of the last few days behind and move on with their lives.

Mr Izundu appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to harken to the yearnings of the youths to ensure lasting peace .

He reminded the youths of the need to stop destruction of lives and property, and said that being violent will cause more harm than good. Mr Izundu noted that the properties some people are destroying (government and individually owned) are to the disadvantage of every one.

On her part, another youth Miss Chinelo Umeokafor said that she saw the ‘let's Clean Awka’ promo online and decided to join as according to her, she is an indigene of the state and must contribute her quota towards the good of the state.

She appreciated Govetnor Obiano for the institution of a judicial panel of enquiry to look into the alleged extra judicial killings by the defunct SARS and police brutality saying that it is a right step in the right direction.

She called on the youths to calm down and give government time to work on their demands expressing optimism that Anambra state government will not disappoint the youths.
