NORTHERN GOVERNORS UNITE TO TACKLE REGIONAL CHALLENGES

…Extend Aid to Drone Misfire Victims

The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, yesterday, 15th December, 2023, joined his fellow Northern Governors for the first meeting of the Northern States Governors’ Forum yesterday in solidarity and collaborative problem-solving approaches.

The inaugural meeting was chaired by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, the first gathering since May 29, 2023, convened at the Council Chamber, Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

The meeting witnessed a historic and pivotal moment in the region's quest for unity and strategic solutions to combat widespread insecurity and other developmental challenges.

The core of the agenda was the pressing need for unity and concerted efforts among the Northern Governors to tackle shared challenges, particularly the alarming escalation of security threats affecting the region. Emphasising the imperative nature of unity, the governors deliberated extensively on helping each other and adopting technological innovations as proactive measures to address the prevalent insecurity within the North.

Shortly after the meeting, the Northern Governors visited and extended their solidarity to the victims impacted by the tragic Tudun Biri Community Drone Misfire incident that took place in Kaduna State recently.

In a gesture of immediate support, a cheque amounting to N180 million was presented to assist the affected families.

Governor Yahaya, serving as the Chairman of the Forum, reiterated the urgency of a cohesive approach to confronting the region's security challenges. He stressed that the discussions were centred on unity and leveraging technological advancements as a critical strategy to effectively mitigate and combat the multifaceted security concerns plaguing the Northern Region.

Also speaking after the presentation of N180 million to support the victims, Governor Alia told newsmen that the visit to the victims at the Accident & Emergency Unit demonstrated the Northern Governors' resolve to not only engage in discourse but also actively support member states and partake in aiding affected communities, offering substantial support to alleviate the aftermath of tragic incidents.

The gathering symbolises a watershed moment in the collective efforts of Northern Governors, showcasing their dedication to fostering unity, helping each other, and harnessing technological innovations as essential instruments in addressing the complex challenges prevailing in the region.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday, presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill to five members of the state House of Assembly.

This came a few minutes after the demolition of the House of Assembly complex started.

Twenty-seven lawmakers of the House recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The 27 members, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were not present at the sitting.

GOV. ALIA WINS GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia has won the Leadership Newspaper 2023 "Governor of the Year Award" for providing exceptional leadership at a time the people of Benue State are in dire need.

According to Leadership Newspaper, Governor Alia has demonstrated sterling leadership qualities by ensuring prudence, blocking waste, and fighting corruption to a stand still since he assumed office as the Governor of Benue State.

The media house also acknowledged on a general note that Governor Alia beefed up the state's IGR, and gave the people of the state a new lease of life just in his last six months in office.

Governor Alia's six months in office has witnessed a downpour of commendable transformative achievements which have ignited hope, improved livelihoods, and rekindled the spirit of optimism amongst Benue people.

Leadership Newspaper highlighted some of the Governor's achievements in line with the priorities of his administration as enshrined in his Blueprint.

They emphasized timely delivery of fertilizer to farmers at subsidized rate, prompt and sustained payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuity, and eradication of the menace of ghost workers.

The media house also acknowledged the new retirement age and length of service for primary and secondary school teachers which Governor Alia has approved, the recovery of numerous looted vehicles, tens of hectres of lands, and numerous landed properties from the previous administration, as well as approved training of 10, 000 training of Benue Youths in ICT.

Other achievements mentioned include, improved monthly allowances of N15, 000 for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and N100, 000 for NYSC doctors serving in Benue State.

Ongoing construction of 16 roads measuring 15.39 kilometres within the Makurdi metropolis, and donation of 100 buses to Benue Links Company to ease movement mad cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Benue people, amongst other things.

GOVERNOR ALIA PRESENTS 2024 BUDGET TO THE STATE ASSEMBLY

…Focused on Development, Job Creation, and Poverty Alleviation

Benue State, Nigeria - December 8, 2023

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, delivered a compelling budget presentation to the State Assembly on Friday, 8th December, 2023, outlining the key pillars of the 2024 fiscal plan.

Titled "Budget of Infrastructure Development, Job Creation, and Poverty Alleviation," the proposed budget reflects his administration's steadfast commitment to fostering economic growth and social progress across the state.

The Governor's resounding speech during the presentation highlighted the core priorities and financial allocation aimed at steering Benue State towards a trajectory of robust growth and enhanced societal well-being.

The budget's total outlay amounts to an impressive ₦225.73 billion, meticulously distributed across various crucial sectors to drive sustainable progress.

The governor emphasized the paramount importance of education, assigning ₦33.86 billion, representing 15% of the budget, towards fostering a more robust educational infrastructure.

Health, another cornerstone of development, received a matching allocation of ₦33.88 billion, accounting for 15.01% of the budget, aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and quality.

A significant focus was directed towards the agricultural sector, with an allocation of ₦28.26 billion (12.52% of the budget), envisioning agricultural development as a key catalyst for economic growth and food security within the state.

Furthermore, Governor Alia's strategic approach to reinforcing the rule of law and justice was evident in the allocation of ₦12.93 billion (5.73% of the budget) to support the legal system.

Security, a pivotal concern in sustaining stability, was allocated ₦10.81 billion (4.79% of the budget) to fortify efforts in ensuring safety and peace across the state.

With an eye on enhancing infrastructural development, an impressive ₦80.73 billion (35.77% of the budget) was earmarked to bolster the state's foundational structures.

Additionally, social welfare initiatives received ₦7.77 billion (3.44% of the budget) to aid vulnerable populations, while commerce was allocated ₦4.15 billion (1.84% of the budget) to bolster economic activities.

The remaining ₦13.33 billion (5.90% of the budget) was apportioned to various other critical sectors, demonstrating Governor Alia's holistic approach to comprehensive development.

This proposed budget, with its multi-dimensional approach, reflects Governor Alia's unwavering commitment to fostering a prosperous, inclusive, and equitable society in Benue State.

The deliberate allocation across diverse sectors signals a conscious effort towards sustainable development, job creation, and poverty eradication for socio-economic advancement, aiming to position Benue State as a model for inclusive growth and prosperity.

The budget is set to undergo deliberations and scrutiny by the Honorable Members of the State Assembly, marking the initial step toward the realization of Governor Alia's visionary agenda and strategic development plan for a greater Benue.

BENUE ASSEMBLY PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON GOV. ALIA, SPEAKER

Benue State House of Assembly today passed a Vote of Confidence on the state Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and the Speaker, Mr. Aondona Dajoh.

Moving the motion which led to the Confidence Vote, the member representing Mata State Constituency of Ushongo Local Government, Mr. Simon Gabo stated that since the assumption of office, Governor Alia has embarked on policies and programs that have re-enkindled the confidence of Benue people in governance.

Mr. Gabo revealed that within six months in office, Governor Alia has stabilized the payment of salaries to workers and pensions to retirees, total rehabilitation of the dilapidated old Assembly Complex and the completion of some road projects.

He said for the Governor to do all these within a very short time without borrowing funds from anywhere was an indication that he is utilizing state resources effectively and transparently.

Seconding the motion, the House Chief Whip, Mr. Peter Ipusu said the Governor has also purchased quality vehicles for members and placed the welfare of State Lawmakers to the front burner adding that the Speaker also deserved a Confidence Vote owing to the effective manner in which he has led the House within the short time as Speaker.

Ruling after a voice vote, the Speaker, Mr. Aondona Dajoh noted that the action of the House will no doubt boost the Governor to higher performance and thanked the House for finding him and the Governor worthy of the confidence vote.

Total Transformation Ongoing At The Benue State House of Assembly Complex.

There is a hand of divinity upon him whom the Lord has chosen to revive Benue State. In the Bible, when Jesus and the apostles were attacked by a storm while crossing the sea, the distractions were intense, however they sailed through.

Amidst distractions and unwavering challenges, the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormen Alia is steadfast in focus and direction. This is evident through the enormous achievements the state has recorded through the prudent leadership of Gov. Alia.

The renovation of dilapidated structures in terms of infrastructural upgrades of government properties is one of which must be mentioned.

Currently, total transformation is taking place at the Benue State House of Assembly Complex in order to enable law makers do so in sound mind and healthy atmosphere.

A Tiv man asserts, "Mjilim ma yangen tom u eren ga". Gov. Alia's focus towards positive change cannot be measured.
