He Knows Your Needs

"...for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him." | Matthew 6:8

Going through the Bible and studying the creation story, one would see that from the very beginning, before God created man, He so much had him in mind that He created everything that man would need to survive in the garden even before the creation of man; and after He had created everything, He made man and put him in charge of all these things.

After sin corrupted man so badly that he was sent out of the garden of Eden, God, out of love, restored this state through the price that our Lord Jesus Christ paid at the cross, and through Him, man gets to have complete access to all that he needs again | Hebrews 4:16

What we need is different from what we want; that which we need is something we require because it is essential or very important rather than just desirable - for survival, man needs oxygen to breathe in; oxygen isn’t negotiable for man when it comes to survival.
On the other hand, that which we want is something we have a desire to possess or do - something we wish for but would be able to survive without.

God created us for a purpose and at every point in time, He is faithful to provide us with all that we need to make the best of that time - as long as we remain strong and steadfast in our Christian faith, the provision of all that we need to fulfill the purpose of our creation is certain | Matthew 6:33

Therefore, even when we present our requests to Him in prayers, our prayers to God ought to be filled with thanksgiving in faith that He knows what we need and will give them to us when we need them.
When we pray with thanksgiving God chases out our worries and fills our mind with His peace | Philippians 4:6-7, 19.

You may not have all you want yet, but you've got all you need.

Prayer release
Dear Father, I am grateful that the provision of all that I need is certain. Please help me to trust You that I may not fill my mind with worry and that I may have peace in You because you can supply all my needs according to your riches in glory through Christ Jesus.

Mighty To Save

Zephaniah 3:17a
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save;

At a point in time, as recorded in the Bible, three nations came together to battle against Judah; the Moabites, the Ammonites, and the Meunites, all three nations came against Jehoshaphat, the King of Judah.

Just as anyone faced with a similar problem would have reacted, Jehoshaphat was greatly troubled right after some men informed him of the impending battle and he was afraid - getting the soldiers ready for battle might have been an easy decision to make if Judah was to battle with just one nation however, they were to go into battle with three nations who have come together to fight as one. Without doubts, King Jehoshaphat had good reasons for his fears.

Knowing that the battle at hand was bigger than Judah, King Jehoshaphat chose to hand the battle over to the God of Israel who is bigger than all problems, a fast was declared throughout Judah and as recorded in the Bible, the whole of Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. | 2 Chronicles 20:13

King Jehoshaphat knew that the mere strength of Judah as a nation would be useless in the battle that was knocking at their gate and because of this, Judah took their case to God - and in their prayer, they said, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
This is to show that the whole of their confidence is in God.

There is one thing that we know about God for sure, He doesn’t fail those who trust completely in Him - trusting in God makes Him to act and when He acts, situations are usually turned around in our favor.

God acted on behalf of Judah against the Moabites, the Ammonites, and the Meunites and Judah won that battle without even fighting - the Ammonites and Moabites turned against the Meunites and killed them; right after that, the Ammonites and Moabites turned against themselves and killed themselves.

Regardless of the magnitude of the problems that you are faced with, the moment God intervenes on your behalf, the problems will be set to a self-destruct sequence and what seemed to be like an immovable mountain before will suffer a meltdown right before your eyes.

Our God is mighty to save us from any kind of problem - all that we need do to cause Him to act is trust in Him.

Prayer Release:

Dear Father, I’m grateful to have you as my refuge and strength - I trust in You.

Above Or Around

“A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. | John 3:27

It is funny how we tend to invest a great deal of effort into trying to help ourselves - when faced with challenges, we tend to look around for people to help and this way we, we end up developing a dependency on men or the physical resources around us.

When in need of help, there are two possible places where we can seek the help we need from, we can either seek help from above or seek help from around us - most times, we seek help from around us, and in return, we get disappointed or we get the help that comes with an overwhelming condition and/or sorrow.

David once returned to his home and then realized that the whole of his household and that of his soldiers had been taken captive by the Amalekites; as recorded in the Bible, David and the soldiers who were with him at that time wept until they no longer had the strength to weep (1Samuel 30:4) - now, if David had decided to look around him for help, he definitely would have been met with disappointment, reason because all the men around him had lost hope and strength that they could no longer weep. David, however, turned to God for help and yes, he received help from above; he was able to pursue after the Amalekites, he overtook them and then he recovered all that was taken despite the fact that over two hundred of his men could not go with him.

The amount of support a person gets from around becomes less significant once the person has received help from above.

Elisha’s servant became troubled after the King of Syria ordered the arrest of Elisha because looking around, all he could see was an army with horses and chariots all around the city, meanwhile, Elisha had no army. Elisha however, was calm and untroubled because he knew his help would come from above and not from around him.

David, understanding that vain is the help of man (Psalm 60:11) said later on in Psalm 121 that he will lift up his eyes to the hills because his help comes from the Lord who is above.

You only get disappointed when you seek help from around you and not from above - the Bible has made us understand that our God is a refuge and also our ever present help in times of need and it is only His help that produces blessing that is without any sorrow - anytime you seek help, look above not around.

Prayer Release:
Dear Father, thank you for being my refuge and strength. Please help me.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Mind Your Business

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. | Matthew 6:33

The book of Genesis chapter one and verse twenty-six holds record of how God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

The actual purpose of man’s creation can be found in this passage - God created man in His own image and likeness just so man can have a mutual relationship with Him; God also put man in charge of all that He (God) had created so that man can work for Him. Man was to serve as a manager of all that God had created.

So basically, being given dominion over all the creations of God allows man to run errands for God by managing His creations while being created in God’s own image and likeness allows man to give reports to God and also relate with Him.

Man was not created to worry about what to eat or what to drink because God had made all these things available right before the creation of man - all that man had to do was to work for God by managing all of God’s creations and also walk with God by relating with Him personally.

At the fall of man, the direct relationship link that man had with God was broken and now that the Lord Jesus Christ has given His life for us just so we can be restored back to the former glory of man, all that is expected of us is to live a life of service unto God and continue to build a closer relationship with Him through His Holy Spirit, however, the mind of many Christians is usually filled with anxieties about their daily needs - they worry about what to eat, they worry about their financial needs, they worry about earning a good living for themselves and while their mind is filled with these anxieties, they tend to get distracted from living a life of service unto God.

Anxieties have their ways of taking our mind off our actual purpose - it is true that we can’t totally prevent these anxieties from coming, it is also true that God cares for us and this is why the Bible instructs that we cast all of our anxieties on Him.

It is God’s business to provide all that you need and it is your own business to continue to live a life of service unto Him; stop worrying about your needs and learn to mind your own business. Just serve God!

Prayer Release:

Dear Father, this I cast all my anxieties on you, thank you for caring for me - I trust you.

Little Did He Know

Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me. | Psalms 51:11

Before the time of the kings, judges ruled over Israel and among the judges who ruled over Israel, Samson is one of the most popular ones.

Long before the birth of Samson, the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and for forty years, the Israelites suffered in the hands of the Philistines, as recorded in the Bible.

Samson, however, was God’s plan to deliver the Israelites from the hands of the Philistines - and before he was conceived, instructions were given to his mother that he was to be a Nazarite. Now, certain laws define a Nazarite; a Nazarite isn’t to take alcohol or any strong drink, the hair of such is to be left unshaven, such is not to go near anything unclean (i.e a co**se) | Numbers 6:3-7.

Well, you guessed right, Samson totally broke all the rules that guide the Nazarite vow and did a lot more; all these without any remorse at first. He slew a lion and ate the honeycomb he found on its carcass, later on, he took a wife from the Philistines, he abused the gift God’s gift to him by using it violently and arrogantly.

He was never remorseful about any of his actions until the consequences of his sins caught up with him - he was betrayed by his wife, Delilah and she had his hair shaved off while he was asleep, thereafter, she got the Philistines ready to attack him; something quite interesting happened afterwards.

She told Samson that the Philistines have come to attack him and Samson responded by saying that he would go out as other times and he would kill them all; little did he know that the Spirit of God had left him. | Judges 16:20

Samson had so much confidence in his own strength, little did he know that the strength of his strength is the Spirit of God that was upon him.

God never took Samson’s strength; we know that the gifts of the Lord are without repentance - God only withdrew His Spirit from Samson and he was left to strive with his physical strength - while no one has a description of Samson’s physical look as the Bible made no reference to it; we know that God didn’t do anything to him physically, he was still as gigantic or as tiny as he was - what left him was the Spirit of God and this led to his capture.

The withdrawal of God’s Spirit from a person usually leaves no physical trace; Samson never knew until he suffered the consequences, Saul never knew until Samuel told him, David had Nathan to rebuke him.

Thanks be unto the Lord Jesus Christ who has changed the narratives - now the Holy Spirit is ever seeking after us, wanting to make our heart His dwelling place but what happens if we keep running away from Him?

Even after surrendering oneself unto Christ, it still takes continuous obedience to His word to make Him continue to dwell in our hearts so then, while it is true that the Spirit of God never actually leaves, the question then is this; “Is the Spirit of God still dwelling in heart or Has He returned back to the phase of seeking you?

The purpose of God’s patient towards us is that we all should reach repentance therefore, let anyone who thinks he stands take heed lest he falls.

Prayer Release

The Good And The Saved

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” | Acts 4:12

More often than not, arguments are raised that all good people will make it to heaven - after all, God only wants our heart and He is a loving God; a loving God wouldn’t turn away good people and deprive them of a place in heaven.

Analyzing this argument contextually, one would want to agree to it that all good people will make it to heaven, however, a conclusion such as this nullifies the finished work of salvation through grace that was done by the Lord Jesus Christ and this makes it a false doctrine.

To say of a truth, when compared with God’s standards of holiness, no one will pass for a good person because in our very nature, we are “fallen,” in rebellion against God and we are incapable of saving ourselves.

There’s a story about a centurion in the Bible named “Cornelius” who we can by our human nature describe as a good person. He was not only a good person, but the Bible also described him as “God-fearing”. If being a good person were enough, God wouldn’t have asked him (Cornelius) to send for Apostle Peter who then came to preach the gospel to him and many other gentiles that he had invited to his house.

It is important to note that Heaven is not for good people - it is for people who have been saved through Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 reads “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
The thief that was crucified next to the Lord Jesus Christ wasn’t a good man but the moment he surrendered to Christ, he became a man worthy of heaven.

Allegorically saying, everyone is born naturally as a seed of Abraham after the order of Ishmael, the slave - adoption into the order of Isaac, the free child happens after a person receives the gift of salvation through Christ. By nature, we are born into sin | Psalm 51:5 and as a result, we fall short of God’s glory | Romans 3:23.

You can be born into a Christian family, thereby becoming a Christian by religion, however, no one is born a Christian by faith.

A time comes when we have to choose Christianity deliberately - this is because the Christian Faith doesn’t come by default and until we receive the gift of salvation through Christ, we aren’t fit for God’s kingdom.

Salvation through Christ is what makes the difference between the good and the saved - heaven is for those who are saved.

Prayer Release
Dear Lord Jesus, I understand that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.

Take Another Look

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. | John 20:11

Mary Magdalene was a very loyal disciple who followed the Lord Jesus everywhere, and at the death of the Lord Jesus, she went to His tomb some days later only to find out that the stone covering it had been rolled away.

Perplexed and confused, Mary stood outside the tomb weeping because she thought the soldiers had taken the body of the Lord Jesus into hiding deliberately and she kept on weeping right there outside the tomb.

All that Mary needed was an answer, she needed to know what had happened to the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, she needed to know where they had laid Him.

Now, the Bible didn’t state how long she waited outside the tomb weeping, however, it was recorded in the Bible that when she looked inside the tomb again, she saw two angels. In other words, the answer that would wipe her tears away had been provided by God all along and was right there inside the tomb just waiting for Mary to look.

Who knows if Mary had spent several hours outside the tomb, weeping; or perhaps, more or less?
What we know is this; seeing the angels who had answers was a result of the action she took by looking.

A very similar story was recorded in Genesis 21 when Hagar, the mother of Ishmael was sent out of the house alongside Ishmael who was still very young then and she ran out of food to eat and water to drink while in the wilderness of Beersheba. With all hopes lost, Hagar dropped her baby believing that he would die and they both wept.

It was after God heard the voice of the crying baby that an angel appeared to Hagar and she was asked to lift up the baby that she had dropped earlier, and it was after she had lifted the baby that God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water.

It is true that we may be experiencing one setback or the other during this time that the state of the economy has been altered very tremendously and like Mary Magdalene, we may have been crying at a corner, what the word of God is saying at this moment is that you take another look and you’d see that the answers to your prayers have been provided.

Like Hagar, we may have given up all hopes and dropped all that is in our hands because we feel they aren’t working and they are going to die off, what the word of God is saying at this moment is that we pick them up again just as Hagar picked Ishmael up and our eyes will be opened to see the opportunities that God has made available.

The answers to your prayers have been made available, all you need do is take another look; remember, while it took the servant of Elijah seven looks before he saw that little cloud in 1Kings 18:44, it only took Mary one look so then, remember to take your faith with you when you look.

Prayer Release
Dear Father, thank you for your word. I believe that you are always ready to answer my prayers, I drop every form of faithlessness in me today that I may be able to see the open doors that you have set before me.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Purpose And Fulfillment - Part 2
(Living In Accordance With Your Purpose)

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.” | Genesis 17:1-2

In a previous edition of our Insightful Devotional which is the first part of this topic, we emphasized on the importance of living according to the purpose of one’s calling and we learned that it is only those who have lived their lives according to the purpose of their calling that will be able to say boldly that they have fought a good fight of faith when they are faced with the physical death.

Living according to our purpose is crucial in our Christian walk and it is of vital importance that we spend every of our time living in accordance with our purpose because with every time wasted comes a lesser boldness to face death and say to it “I have fought a good fight of faith”.

Having established this, how then can one discover one’s purpose and also walk/live in accordance with it?
This takes us to the call of Abraham as recorded in Genesis 17, God defined the fulfillment of Abraham’s purpose based on Abraham’s ability to walk before Him (God) blamelessly. In other words, as long as Abraham was blameless, he would be fulfilling God’s purpose for him.

The purpose of every Christian is a function of the Christian’s walk with Christ - as long as we walk before Christ blamelessly, we would be walking according to the purpose of our calling.

Living a devoted Christian life brings us into conformity to the will of the Father - continuous conformity to the will of the Father leads us into the fulfillment of our purpose. As recorded in the Bible in Acts 17:28 that
“In him we live and move and have our being” - we are to follow, submit to God's word and lean on the HolySpirit for directions in order to live a fulfilled life.
No one ever misses their way when they subject themselves to the leading of the HolySpirit.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. | Jeremiah 29:11
A Christian who gets to live a life of purpose is a Christian who is devoted to the Christian faith - live a devoted Christian life and you will get to that expected end.

Prayer Release
Dear Father, I thank you for your word which I have received - I am sorry for the times that I have wasted living outside your will for my life. Help to to live according to the purpose of my calling henceforth.

Purpose And Fulfillment - Part 1

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. | John 19:30

According to the Mosaic laws, if a man has committed a crime punishable by death, and he is hanged on a tree (crucified), his body should not remain on the tree all night, and such should be buried the same day. This was the law on which the soldiers acted when they broke the legs of the other criminals who were crucified next to the Lord Jesus Christ, in order to hasten their death, however, on getting to the Lord Jesus, they saw that He had died already and to be very sure of this, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spare.

Stating the obvious, the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross faster than the time other people die when they are crucified. Someone would say “but the Lord Jesus was seriously flogged before He was crucified” - well, crucifixion had been in practice ages before Christ was born into the world, and usually, scourging precedes crucifixion. During scourging, the victim is stripped naked, tied to a post, and then flogged across the back, buttocks and legs by soldiers; the excessiveness of the whipping would weaken the victim, causing deep wounds, severe pain and bleeding.

At the mercy of the pain, the Lord Jesus would have lingered a bit longer on the cross, however, a deeper study of how He died reveals that it wasn’t the pain that killed Him, the Bible says “He gave up His spirit” and He did this right after uttering one of His last statements, “It is finished”. This then makes us wonder what the significance of the statement “It is finished” is.

Earlier, when the Lord Jesus Christ said one of His last public prayers as recorded in John 17, He said this in verse 4 “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.” The Lord Jesus Christ during this prayer said that He had accomplished the work given to Him by the Father on earth, all that was left was for Him to be glorified and what led to His glorification was His death and resurrection.

When the Lord Jesus said “It is Finished”, He said so to imply that He had completed all of His earthly tasks without leaving anyone undone. He was able to give up His spirit because He had lived a fulfilled life - He had finished all His assignments - He had walked all His life on earth according to the purpose of His calling.

There is no greater height of fulfillment than for a person to leave this world having completed his God-given tasks without leaving anyone undone.

Reflection
⁃ The Lord Jesus Christ lived a life purpose and fulfillment, thereafter, He was able to say boldly that “The work is finished”.
⁃ Have you discovered your own purpose?
⁃ Have you started to walk in accordance with that purpose?
⁃ At the point of physical death, will you be able to say of a truth that “It is finished?”

One With God

And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. | Genesis 13:10

The story about the call of Abraham and how he was instructed by God to leave his father’s house isn’t a new one; Abraham heeded God’s instruction and he left his father’s house, taking with him, his wife and also, his nephew Lot.

In the course of their journey, a time came when the land could not support Abraham and Lot dwelling together because their possessions were so great that there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. In order to settle this, they decided to go separate ways and Abraham asked Lot to choose whichever direction he wanted to journey toward and that he (Abraham) would journey toward the opposite direction.

This was when Lot looked around and he saw the plain of Jordan, how it was well watered, it was like the garden of the Lord and just as anyone else would, Lot chose all the valley of Jordan and journeyed east.

Following any basic principle, Abraham, being the pioneer of the journey ought to have been the one to choose a place for himself first and not Lot, however, he gave up his rights for his nephew and stating the obvious, he lost what seemed like the best option for himself and his possessions to his nephew.

Abraham was able to give up his rights for his nephew and allow him to choose whatever he wanted because he knows that his (Abraham’s) steps are being ordered by God; he was confident enough to allow Lot choose all the goodies for himself because he had God - and God ended up giving him the whole of the earth.

It doesn’t matter who seems to be ahead of you now, as long as you are with God, He will remain the portion of your inheritance and what is yours will not be taken away from you by anyone.

Anyone who is with God gets everything.

Prayer Release:
Dear Father, I thank you for being the portion of my inheritance - I believe that you know that which is best for me and I trust you completely as the captain of my ship.

Leverage To Abundance

John 6:5
Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”

The Lord Jesus Christ suggested that the disciples take a quick break to eat and rest after they had just returned from a mission field and they got into a boat, however, many people who saw them recognized them and the Bible tells that the people ran towards the destination of the boat on foot from all the towns and even got there ahead of them.

On getting ashore, they saw a great multitude and their plan to rest was terminated as the Lord Jesus started to teach the multitude. It started getting dark and that was when the Lord Jesus turned to Philip and asked about where they could buy bread for the people to eat.

He asked this knowing what He would do already because they were at a desolate place and finding a place to buy anything wouldn’t be easy; this wasn’t the only problem though, where would they get so much money to feed several thousands of people. The Lord Jesus Christ asked with hopes that the disciples would see the factual impossibilities in the situation and then turn to Him as the only leverage but the disciples didn’t.

The same way we Christians usually try to solve our problems ourselves by calculating our means and ways and failing to understand that Christ is our advantage, Philip did a quick calculation and told the Lord Jesus that the daily wage of 200 men wouldn’t be enough even if everyone gets a little portion of the bread - Philip said this, despite the fact that The All-sufficient one was standing next to him.

Some of the disciples even asked Jesus to dissolve the crowd just so they can go fend for themselves; the Lord Jesus didn’t agree to this - instead, He asked them to check for what was available and just a boy had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.
Still failing to realize that the Lord Jesus Christ is the All-sufficient one, Andrew said “of what use is 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish in feeding thousands of people?”

Well, the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish ended up being more than enough for the multitude after The Sufficient One touched them; the people ate to their satisfaction and there were leftovers.

Outside Christ, there is no amount of wealth that will satisfy man, a thousand will be like a little and an ocean will be like a drop of water. In Him, however, a little shall become a thousand and a drop of water shall become a mighty ocean.
It is only in the Lord Jesus Christ that we can find sufficiency for He is our leverage to abundance.

Prayer Release

Most Sufficient Father, I’m sorry for the times I have failed to understand that You alone can satisfy. I commit the little that I have into your hands and I believe that You will multiply it.

Thank you, Father.
